    http://blog.games.yahoo.com/blog/134-canceled-nba-elite-11-was-anything-but-elite

All you’ll be seeing of NBA Elite this year The video game industry is a big business. Make that a huge business. Millions of dollars are spent developing games, and millions more are spent marketing them to the masses. NBA Elite 11, a basketball game from EA Sports, is unusual in that it’s been developed and marketed, but it will never see the inside of a console. Although EA initially simply delayed its October 5 release, they’ve now officially canceled the game.

The announcement sent off a shockwave of searches on the Web. Online lookups on "nba elite canceled," "nba elite 2011," and "why nba elite 2011 canceled" all soared far above the rim on Yahoo!.

While there is no official explanation as to why the game has been called off, it’s fair to say that the game’s overall bad buzz combined with fan reaction to the game’s horrifically buggy demo likely played a part. The stellar critical and fan response to rival game NBA 2K11 may have been the nail in the coffin. NBA Elite 11 was, apparently, a game that was anything but elite.

So, just how bad was it? Joe and Jane Gamer will never know, but folks who played the demo on their Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 sounded off on the game’s many bugs. In one well documented snafu, Laker center Andrew Bynum struck a Jesus-like pose at center court. Others discovered that you could shoot hook shots from just about anywhere on the court. So much for "If it’s in the game, it’s in the game."

While EA Sports isn’t infallible, the company is known for putting out well-polished sports simulations year after year. After all, they are the folks behind Madden NFL, one of the longest running and most beloved franchises in game history.

Gamespot reports that the lack of an EA Sports NBA sim on store shelves will have significant financial repercussions for the company. Not only will the company miss out on tens of millions of dollars in revenue, the next EA NBA game will face a tougher time next year when it faces off with competitor NBA 2K12.

[For the first time in a long time, the mega-game-maker will be the underdog, albeit with a new developer at the helm. Next year, EA plans to let the EA Tiburon, the guys behind Madden, tackle their NBA offering.

They should of just kept touching up the Live engine instead of handing the game over to people who make the hockey game and then taking the turbo button out.  It just seemed like a bad idea to begin with and then watching Andrew Bynum suffer the stigmata in the demo gave me chills.

Let’s face it, Live has been dead since 08.. IMO Live 03 was their best game, except for the amount of dunks that were possible in that game.

They should just rerelease NBA Live 03 for current systems, I would buy it.

I wasn’t planning on buying Elite anyway. Shooting was too easy on the demo, people were just going to make every shot they took.

Its probably because the couldn’t get exclusive rights to NBA and actually had to make a better game than 2k Sports.

I am glad I made the switch too 2k a few years ago. My man Mr. Knick must be pissed off, he was the only one seemingly fighting for this game. It seemed like a strange idea with their "revolutionary" shooting mechanism and such, plus as much as they "If it’s in the game, it’s in the game", 2k has so much more attention to detail and realistic features, the association blows the Live/Elite franchise out of the water. I hear that they might just wait until next year, but EA has really messed this one up. Just from playing their other sports titles, I know how few changes they make and how many glitches never get fixed, so, for basketball, I’m sticking with 2k for real, and as of now I have not played Madden or NCAA Football for the last few years, which means NBA 2k11 is about it for me on the video game front.

Man, I liked it, no doubt, but it also infuriated me. In that game, I once shot 4/16 in a quarter with LeBron James, and at least 10 of the misses were on DUNKS. I would have dunks just bounce off the rim all of the time. It sucked man, pissed me off so much. Checked the sliders, checked everything, would still happen at the worst times. F’ing annoying. Live 06 was fun, with the whole concept of the superstar things, like the 3 point shooters, and power player and such. There was this one move, I think it was with inside scorers, it was like a sky hook. Basically unblockable, would very rarely miss, crazy move, of course infuriating to defend and you would drop 40 on whoever you were playing with like Timmy, Yao Ming and Pau Gasol. The dunker thing was cool, and the power thing actually made Ben Wallace a solid offensive option, which was of course, ridiculous, but it was a fun game. 07 was the last one I played, and that game was ok too, you could switch superstar icons during the game and such, but it definitely had its flaws.

I agree with Tongue out like 23, as far as X-Box/PS2 stuff, Live 03 was boss. You would do ridiculous dunks, which were pretty tight, and the sound effects were rad. It was pretty arcade style, almost like NBA Jam with 5 on 5. It came out my freshman year, and I played it religously with the people in my college dorm. We had some epic games, tons of ridiculous charges, but it was damn fun, and when I finally bought my X-Box, for the months before 2004 came out, it was just pure ownership of my friends. When you would block a shot, it was with AUTHORITY. Man, that "THWAP", it was unlike any game since. I too would probably cop some Live 03 if it came out for the current system. I mean, NBA Jam coming out is tight and all, but if they could do a 5 on 5 arcade style like Live 03 with current players, maybe that would compete more and give a diverse choice to the realism of 2k11.

If I’m EA why not scratch there NBA franchise all together and focus on a NCAA game, I mean at this point they’ve proven they cant hang with the 2k series, i’m just being selfish here because i want a good college bball game so bad, the last good one to come out was 2ks last one(as good as nba 2k is, it still pisses me off that they canceled college), but really, quit trying to beat 2k, you never will, so put your time and money in a college game, a good college game, not that crap you had been putting out in recent years.

ea should probably call it quits on the nba franchise and admit defeat to 2k. I heard that they are also gonna bow out of the MMA race against THQ as well. At least EA has NCAA football which is a must have.

they cant make anywhere near as good a game as 2k, so they had to cancel it.  they forced 2k out of the college basketball and football market by gaining exclusivity from the NFL and NCAA, but in fact, 2k makes a better football game…and their college basketball…I still play to this day.

He was not the only one that was lobbying for the game. I was also it’s just that I did not want to go in debate about which game is better, and lose all my pts which will probably happen now off of this post but who cares. EA just will probably stick to Football as far as their main focus in sports because that’s their bread n’ butter.

I’d @ least rather have the option to play NCAA 11 basketball since they already knew they weren’t going to come out with Elite……The whole thing was just a gimmick IMO to see what the fan base would be like.

Why would they possibly sit on the game? For what reason? They do not have to compete in that aspect of the video game. I loved playing the NCAA Basketball games because you used to be able to import your draft class over to Live.

And heres my solution which will never happen EA makes the college basketball and 2k does the pro thing.

EA is sitting on March Madness b/c their sales sucked. They thought by buying out the NCAAB that College Hoops(2K) fans would just switch over… boy were they wrong.

I still play College Hoops 2K8 from time to time nothing beats recruiting and building up small schools
