I want to start a topic supponding kids going pro when not ready for the pro game. At first I made comments about that being silly going pro when the player is not ready. But, I realized that I was just looking at it as a fan point of view, not the players POV. Now I will never judge players decisions about staying v. leaving to the NBA draft or just playing overseas. There’s numourous reasons for players leave college or not going to college.

One big reason is College is not for everyone. Some people/players do not fit in at a college or may not like college at all. College is not the end all, be all in determining a successful person/player. As a player POV, leaving early, not getting drafted, and playing overseas is a better deal than staying at college to get your degree. People say college players that prematurally leave for the pros and not get drafted made dumb/stupid decisions. But, that is farthest from the truth. There are more leagues across the globe that will pay more than they are most likely going to make with that degree. Plus, the can always go back to college to get the degree if they really want it.

Another reason is the risk v. reward factor and the value of coming back to school v. entering now. I look at a player like Isaiah Taylor. he won’t be a first round pick next year if he returned to college and he won’t this year. It was a pretty smart in mature decision by him leaving and knowing that his stock won’t get any higher by staying in school, and he can always go back and get his degree. That’s what I realized during the draft prossess, is that some prospects will never reach the 1st round statues if they return to school, why not leave if you’re stock won’t rise if you don’t put much value in education.

You can look at the other end of the spectrum and look at a prospect/player like Malik Newman. He can improve his stock by coming back to school and transfering, unlike a player Isaiah Taylor, Shaq Goodwin, and Wayne Seldon.

Players leave for the pros for muliple reasons. I don’t really know why people criticize players for leaving early because of the reasons I had gave above.

Fair point for the right guys, but all I’d say is getting the degree paid for while improving your game isn’t a bad deal for a guy like Taylor.

I’m a UT fan and saw many of his games, as it stands I doubt he gets drafted or at least don’t think he’s currently an NBA point guard (much like Myck Kabongo a couple years back). If he would have come back and shown an improvement on his jump shot that would have helped his main weakness and likely would get drafted… Depends on the player and his game I guess
