MelParticipanthttp://www.businessinsider.com/the-5-nba-teams-most-likely-to-be-contracted-2010-10
Interesting article.
My question is, what happens to the players on these teams, where do they go.
Lets say its the Grizz, can Mayo or Rudy sign with anyone or is there a ‘Fantasy draft’ of sorts?
I would LOVE for some teams to go honestly. It would only make teams stronger across the board. It would be like the Golden Era of the NBA where the Celtics and Lakers had mulitple Hall of Famers playing together..
Anyone know though?

MelParticipantThat would be CRAAAAZY .. I think a team getting cut is an extreme but it is possible and I hope a team is cut for some reason. I guess I want to see players being spread out and making teams more competitive

earthdogParticipantYou can look at the NFL USFL draft
There have been other Dispersal Drafts
The question is this, is the NBA on the hook for the money owed on exisiting contracts. If they are, these players will be in a draft for teams to pick from. If not, everyone will become a free agent.
I am interested at looking at which players would no longer be in the league if there are 2 or 4 fewer teams.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantToronto is in the top half of the league in terms of revenue, only a complete moron would think the league would contract them.
The league isn’t going to contract. Stern mentioned contraction and later in the week talked about expansion in Europe. It is a leverage move on his part, nothing more.

Im Your FatherParticipantYou know BothTeamsPlayedHard, you are very smart and you know a lot more about basketball than me. I respect what you have to say and always look at your posts. But, that being said, there is absolutely no need for you to be such a dick.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIs that a general statement or are you upset that I found someone it absurd that someone who writes for Business Insider to has so little business sense as to suggest one of the healthiest franchises in the NBA should be contracted?

mxhart532ParticipantI think the NBA should take the European style approach to the league. The team with the worst record for the next 4 years gets dumped, with all their players going into an "expansion draft" ordeal where the next 15 worst teams get to pick up one player’s contract. This way teams can’t tank on purpose for the draft lottery, making every game competitive and better for the league as a whole.

PureshooterParticipantAs a Bobcats fan, I wouldn’t mind seeing a contraction. Lets start with the Bobcats.
