Gob BluthParticipantWhy is it the NBA combine uses different reporting measures than the NFL draft. I know they’re different sports but in the NFL draft no one, and I mean no one cares what your height with shoes on is. Your height without shoes is your true height. Also a vertical leap is just that, it’s your standing vertical leap. It’s almost as if the NBA combine is twisted to make the athletes seems freakishly athletic. Obviously I’m a huge hoops fan and am not knocking the systems but it just seems odd to me that the NBA combine testing promotes their height w/shoes, max vert, and use 185 bench.

Lotto StudParticipantHow else can you measure athletic ability without thinking someone is a fluke?

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantJumping is a very important part of this sport. If your max vert is low, then it’s pretty obvious that your standard jump on jumpshots, rebounds, and shot blocking is going to be even lower. Meaning some of your potential is lowered. If there’s a guy that’s a 6’8" power forward, if he has no vertical, it will be more difficult for him to succeed.
The height w/shoes makes sense. Nobody plays basketball without shoes so why would they take that measurement into account? Every inch matters, even if it sounds cliche.

Lotto StudParticipantI agree!
You also may have a guy who was listed shorter than they actually were (Kemba Walker, Isaiah Thomas) to help their cause with measurements.
Vert-You may see a guy wow you on film & then once he gets to camp he does not have that, athleticism you were raving about. Every year there is a guy who jumps out the gym but does not play to it at all, but you still have to take it into account.

kobyzParticipanti don’t understand you, The height w/shoes is just stupid, it’s make no sense to measure like this, NBA only do this for marketing reasons, to make their players seem bigger, the fans only want to know the real height of the players.
