I have nba live for PS3 and it is the most aggravating game you’ll ever play. I actually took a box cutter to the disc I got so pissed at it. The game is extremely unrealistic aka you can dribble out of bounds at certain points in the game and if a player fades away while spinning and shoots a three then it automatically goes in(don’t ask). Get 2k9. save yourself.

Live hasn’t been good since 2005 when they first introduced a dunk contest. And now 2k has them beat at that. 2K feels more real, while live feels arcade-ish at times.

Dude I liked NBA live but they have changed all the good things they had and added some stupid stuff and now it feel fake and anyone can block your shot. I can not get into the 2k controls though. I am going to stop buying basketball games. i will say this I though NBA 09 the life was fun but it is not a good simulation of basketball but it is fun though. If it is cheap i might get that one but I am dispointed with NBA live. That quick strike sucks compare to freestyle. Also I get tired of phantom steals and everyone can block even on big people. That is why I did not like 2004 because of that and 2005-06 were pretty good with that 2006 was kinda easy though but the controls were fluid and little people were not getting easy blocks on big people. NBA 2005 was the best one to me. Also have you noticed this. Most of the player in the NBA is black but yet there are more white people hair styles then black people hair styles in Live 09. They do have a lot braids but I can’t make some people accurate because their hair style is not included. The mohawk thing evey one is rocking now and a few year back should be in there also threads like Jordan Hill should be in. They could even include that crazy hairstyle Hudson and Sprewell had back in the day. I really don’t dont understand that would be like having a hockey game and having a whole bunch of black people hair styles and only few white people hair styles.

I know we here it every freggin year! Word is that they hired some old developers that worked with the 2k series and are going to revamp the entire engine. I might be in the minority here but I didn’t really enjoy 2k9 that much, but I also didn’t bother playing Live 09 as well.

NBA 365 my butt! They should improve their game play starting with the laws of physics! There’s no way we should ever see a Shaquille O’neal having trouble backing down players like KG in the post.

I played the Demo of 2k and I actually play basketball and 2k feel different but it does not feel like actually game play in real life. I will say this neither does live 09 Live series starting going downhill to me in 2005 and 2006 was fun but too easy. Live09 is a scam and they cheap to win games. They have phantom steals and blocks. Some players had go to moves that they can consistently make even with double teams. They can make shots that you can’t make wide open. I had to 2 games where Durant could not make wide open 3’s. He made a wide open only when we had no chance to win. Collision needs to be reworked aint no little guy touching me and make me pick up my dribble. Also the only time you can score easy is if you run their actual plays then all of a sudden your players are unguardable. I used to be a huge live fan and I am hurt about how bad this game was. I did not play it much earlier but I played it a lot recently and I wanted to throw my controller because stuff happens in the game that does not make sense.

romeezy i feel you man. How about some midget you blocking your tomahawk dunk when you have them beat. Only a few players in the NBA can pull a Tayshaun Prince. They have it to where everyone can do it. Stuff like that can not happen in real life.

I only have the PS2, and NBA Live is terrible for that.

But I started to love the 2K basketball games once I figured out the right settings. With 2K9’s default settings, pick-and-rolls are too easy, and dunks come easily against the computer. Also, outside shooting is a little too unsuccessful for the user. But I just tweaked a lot of the settings to compensate for these problems, and I’m quite satisfied with the game. The gameplay is super smooth. I only wish that alley-oops were a little more successful, and you could call a pick-and-pop. You CAN call a pick-and-roll, and then have the picker move to the 3-point line. But that involves a lot of button pushing and perfect timing.

NBA Live has had some nice concepts but has failed to put it all together. This is what they should do:

    1. Figure out how to have smooth, realistic gameplay movement to the level that 2K has. This is paramount.

    2. Go back to the exact superstar offensive moves of the 06 version. But give the option of all of the moves to all of the players. All NBA players can ATTEMPT those moves–some are just more successful than others. If Emeka Okafor attempts a fancy Steve Nash pass, it gets intercepted every time. But still give Emeka the option to attempt it. If Gana Diop attempts a runner off one foot from 12 feet at full speed, have him airball it or brick it. But still give the user the option to attempt that shot with Diop.

    3. Use the play calling of the versions AFTER 06. I like how you can call a pick-and-pop, pick-and-roll, or post-up, and select the player icon for whom you want to do the picking or posting. That’s one thing 2K could use.

NBA 2k8 and 2K9 for the PS2 stand out as better than previous versions. They added some nice shifty dribble movements to that little left analog shake accompanied by the R1 button. Also, some people don’t know you can do a nifty spin move by holding down R1, L1, and twirling the left analog stick at the same time. Also, the game was revolutionized for me when I figured out I could dribble into the lane, stop, and then do some triple threat manuevering to elbow players out of my way for the jam. Fun stuff. But like I said in a previous post, it helps to tweak the settings for more realistic gamplay outcomes.

2K should make it so you decide when you shoot a hook shot, a runner, or a face up jump shot. Maybe have it correspond to the direction of the right analog stick?

I owned live and played 2k with my boyz and 2k is fake as ever. the worst player on the team could take over at anytime!!! I mean I played against portland and my boy dropped me off with jerryd bayless, hitting 3’s from all over the place!!!! now he barely even touched the floor!!! and I mean live had it’s down falls it had a few glitches like if you had a CPU running to the blocks and you passed it to him it was just like a fast break dunk!!! But I never ever saw Dwight Howard under the basket with no one on him and blow a lay up!!! not a dunk, but a lay up!!! (2k9)

I will do research on Live 10 but to be honest they both fall short for me. I Liked 2k back on the dreamcast and have both games. Like 2002 got my attention back again and live 2003 was so solid cept for a few hiccups but I had the most fun with that one. Live 2004 i liked but it made me mad. Live 2005 was the best. I don’t see how it is so hard. Every person that plays these games know what the problems are. Honestly to give themselves more time to fix these problems I would start with the Live that did well and just update the players and then spend the next 2 years fixing on the game problems. The crazy thing is so of the games did not have this problem.

2k10 all the way for ps3, nba live sucks the last 3 or 4 years. the game play is terrible, ive been on the 2k ban wagon the last few years and havent looked back. much better game, still has room for improvement but at this point is 5 times so good as live. to be honest I cant say enough bad things about the live series the past 3 or 4 years, especially 09 its absolutely terrible.i duno what its like for x-box or nuttin but for ps3 defiantly go with 2k10.

    cheers

Easily 2k. I mean it has basically every single player’s shot look realistic. Live has nothing compared to that. It is way more like an actual NBA game then Live is. When i play 2k people ask “who’s playing?”. It is way more realistic.

Yea, NBA 2K is the best by far. Realistic dunks, jumpers, post moves, ball fakes, jab steps, ball handling, passing, etc. Realistic defensive sets and coaching options. You can block shots with your left or right hand lol. 2K is on another level.

Dude don’t waste your time with NBA Live. EA is dreadful with basketball games; its horrible. Get 2k, it has treated you well and it’s easily the best sports game there is

Before both of the games came out, I played the NBA Live 09 demo and it was pretty good to me. And since the 2k9 demo wasn’t there yet, I just played the 2k8 demo and i thought that Live 09 was better, so I bought NBA Live. Each time i played it it was getting faker and faker, and when I was playing 2k9, I realized that 2k9 was way better so I eventually bought 2k9 and I never play Live now. The best Live was NBA Live 2005. That’s when live use to be good. After Live 2005, Live started getting really fake. So now I just buy 2k and I’m definitely getting 2k10 this year over Live.
