I think he will go in the first round. Probably somewhere in the mid 20’s. But even a fan of his has to admit that he has some concerns about how he will translate to the NBA. He is not talented enough offensively for NBA teams to throw him the ball and watch him go to work. So basically he will be a role player. A role player with limited defensive, size, and athletic abilities. He did’nt improve much from his sophomore year to his senior year.

In Hansbrough’s defense, he HAS improved from his soph to senior year. He developed a much better mid-range jump shot and by his senior year it wasn’t a shock to see him knock down some three pointers either.
There’s not much that he could do to increase his “NBA potential.” He can’t grow 3 inches over night, or increase his vertical by 10 inches so he worked on his jump shot and other skills. Whatever team drafts him will know that he won’t be an all-star and when you’re drafting in the mid 20s you aren’t looking for a starter anyway. Finding a good role player in that slot is hard enough

With that being said, as a Bulls fan I don’t want them to draft him with the #26 pick lol

I like Hansborough and as Louisville fan, I get much flack for being a fan of his. I think he could get a look at the very end of the first round, but he will probably go in the early second. I don’t think he is an underrated player; I just think his game doesn’t have a true demand in the NBA. I doubt he gets many of the calls he got at UNC in the League, the defense will be vastly superior to anything he dominated in college and his scoring outside of the paint is a tad spotty.

I think Dante Cunningham is an underrated player in this years draft. He won’t sniff the first round (unless there is a Renaldo Balkman-esuqe stunner) but he will be a solid role player for a second round team looking for a tough, agile big man.

I agree that he’s become under-rated. I can’t remember a single championship team ever having a roster filled with 15 All-Stars, so the fact that Hansbrough will never break a sweat on All-Star Weekend is totally irrelevant. But I CAN remember plenty of championship teams with two or three All-Stars, plus a complement of reliable, hard-working role players.

Half of the lottery picks who are brimming with “potential” right now will end up washing out in 4-5 years. They’ll never average more than 6 points and 4 boards, but on any given night you’ll have no idea what they’re going to put up – and the GMs drafting them next month are clueless as to who those guys are. But they do know exactly what Hansbrough is gonna give them – he’s going to give them 20min, 12 points, 5 boards, won’t be out with injuries, draws fouls on opposing big men, and hits 85% FT – he’s going to do it every night for 8-10 years, will never cause trouble, and will play for a fraction of the cost of those lottery picks who will wash out. For any GM that already has a core of stars and is looking to build around them with quality, reliable role-players, he could be the most valuable asset in the entire draft.

Somewhere in the later 1st, if a team isn’t looking to win the lottery perhaps they can secure a very good role player in Hansbrough. If he does go late first, then I agree with tkd720man and will say there will be at least a few higher-picked players that will be worse NBA players than Hansbrough. But if you’re picking in the half of the first round, you need impact players so go with riskier picks with more upside.

I doubt he will last until he second round though, there are playoff teams that could use him.

I remember 2 years ago when Milsap wasn’t drafted until the middle of the 2nd round. I kept telling myself NBA GMs can’t be this stupid. After all, the guy led the NCAA in rebounding an incredible 3 years in a row. Wow! That’s a mind boggling achievement.

Anyone with knowledge of the game knows that defense and rebounding wins. But for some unknown reason, everyone’s almost always focused on offense. But every year, NBA GMs remind me that most of them are overpaid and semi-incompetent.

Hey guys, remember this next statement. Scorers are a dime a dozen in the NBA, almost every player in the league was a big time scorer in college. The hardest skill to find is rebounding and that’s why I love Milsap! So just before every NBA Draft, I always ask myself who’s going to be the next Milsap [or at least resemble Milsap]. This year I came up with three names.

1. D. Blair
2. J. Brockman
3. L. Harangody [he can also give you offense]

Even though he’ll probably go in the lottery, I still think D. Blair is underrated. Get a guy who will kill for rebounds, and you’re on your way to fielding a winning team. He belongs in the top 5.

Hey CaptainAmerica08, I think the reason D. Blair isn’t in the lottery on this website is the age old emphasis upon offense. Everyone says rebounding and defense win games, but for some reason, they’re always looking for guys to play offense. In my opinion, scorers are a dime a dozen in the NBA. Almost every team is populated by guys who were scoring machines in college while they have a big time shortage of rebounders.

What every NBA team needs are guys like P. Milsap and that’s why I think D. Blair belongs in the top ten, maybe even the top five. Doc Edwards loves Leon Powe because he’s so smart and he loves to rebound. They missed Powe almost as much as Garnett in the playoffs.
