    http://www.nbadraft.net/nba_mock_drafts/comments/34346

I usually don’t post mocks, but this year I decided to because I followed more NBA teams than I usually do, and watched more NCAA than I usually do as well.

When doing my mock, I ignore trades, and just try and focus on what I think the team will do based off of their current outlook, and who the teams have on their roster as well. A team like Atlanta or OKC are more inclined to take players who can jump in right away and contribute, and probably won’t draft a 19 year old kid who needs to develope.

Another criteria I use is payroll, as I think that’s extremely important, as I don’t see a team taking a player if they already have 3 players under contract who play the same position. Even more so if they have lack of talent at another position.

I also try and focus on team need and fit in regards to their system. For example, I don’t see Myles Turner a good fit for any team looking to go uptempo, and I don’t see why a team like the Suns or Pacers would draft him for that reason. Likewise, even though the Celtics want a SF, they would probaly pass on someone like Dekker or RHJ because of their poor shooting.

I also look at stats, and gage what a team needs, or where they can improve. A Team like Philly, who was nearly dead last in almost every major offensive category for example, will probably look to add some shooters, and a team like the Knicks who were dead last in 3pnt% against them might want to add perimeter defense.

I’d like any feedback you guys could give, and any discussion related to my points made about why I think a team would select a certain player would be awesome!

I don’t see Decker out of the Top 15 and Cauley Stein out of the Top 10 IMO

I don’t see Trey Lyles falling out of the lottery. Too many lottery teams like. Knicks could be willing to trade down to get him as Phil Jackson sees him as a great fit for the triangle. Pistons could use him to replace or a better option than Greg Monroe. Charlotte too incase Al Jefferson leaves. Indy could use him to replace or a better option than David West. Jazz probably like him to as a backup to Favors or Gobert. OKC probably likes him as a better, cheaper replacement than Enes Kanter. I could see him go anywhere from 8-14

Interesting how you have Hezonja to Orlando, they better hope he’s a full time small forward then(he’s more of a shooting guard). And I would slightly suspect you for doing a homer pick in Myles Turner to Boston. You really think he’s gonna fall to 16? Or you want him badly because he provides the rim protection your team needs?

I have them taking Mario because they like to take athletes/euros and need shooting badly. I also think they are committed to Gordon playing the 4 and not the 3, and don’t think they used the 4 pick on a player who they think will just be a energy bench big off the bench. Orlando will be playing a more fast-paced offense, so I do think their defense will be more pick and roll switching than it will be strait up man and weak side help, and Gordon projects to be better in this regards than Portzingis. Winslow would be my pick, but I have him going to the Knicks. I just think Mario is the better fit with their current make up, and don’t think taking a Euro prospect (Mario is more of a sure thing who can play right away), is going to help them compete. I think The Magic are trying to make the playoffs now, and aren’t set on developing another big.

I also understand what you’re saying about my homer pick with Myles, I thought of that myself, but if you read my comments I explain it perfectly. Most mocks I see have Turner going to the Suns/Pacers/Jazz, and I just don’t see that happening.

Suns already have the Morris twins at PF locked up forever, Len as their starting center, and just traded for the highly effiecient Wright who they probably will bring back.

Pacers would easily take WCS in this situation, as they covet him, and I don’t see Turner being great in a fast-paced offense like the Pacers are said to want to convert to.

Jazz already have two blodding big men in their rotation who can block shots, and think that they will go with the more versatile Portis, who I consider to be on the same level as Myles as a prospect. Also, if you watched Jazz games at all at the end of the year once people had a chance to scout Gobert and Favours, you’d have noticed that the team really struggled with PnR defense, and teams used small ball line-ups to break them down. Turner isn’t going to help this, while Portis has better athletiscism and mobility to give the Jazz a different look off the bench.

It’s hard to place this draft because you don’t know which way a lot of lottery teams want to go. I think Turner could slip if he isn’t taken #7 to the Nuggets (another fast team, who would rather take the high potential euro in portzingis) or #15 to ATL. But I think Myles is going to need more time to develope, and don’t see ATL wanting to wait around esspecially because thye need a major contributor when they lose either Carrol/Milsap. It’s just how my mock played out really.
