llperezseriosuly, i used to say the lakers were playing 5 on 4 when he was on the court, now im thinking it might actually be 6 on 4 cause derek should just put on the other teams jersey. He cant stop anybody from getting in the paint. Tony parker destroyed him in the third so bad that phil finally sat derek on the bench the whole 4th and steve blake played significantly better defense while the lakers tried to get back in it. As for the offense, 1-5 tonight. 1-6 vs boston last sunday. He has only scored double digits 3 times in the last 27 games. He is shooting 38% from the field and he might be the worst sstarting defenisve pg in the league.
All i can do is watch him struggle on the court and hope he picks it up in the playoffs.

KayjayParticipantIn Fishers defense, which there is no defense at all. (get it?)
Steve Blake isn’t too well on the defensive end either. He’s like a poor man’s Steve Nash. And Fisher might be in that old man slump. You know the one where you become nothing but a shell of what you were before. And show brief moments of what you were, but in all honesty you’re pretty much only good for filling up another roster like the Heat’s Juwuan Howard? All in all, he’s old bro.

llperezwell hes clearly older. But at least knock down open jumpers and take smart shots. At the end of the third the lakers were holding for the final shot and he jacked up a 3 with 10 seconds left as soon as he touched it, thats a dumb shot.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI wouldn’t say struggling. Struggling is doing bad when it’s possible to do better. Fisher can’t do better. He’s old and broken down. Quick guards always expose him and today was no different. Steve Blake isn’t significantly better. This is the reason Jordan Farmar was so important. Today just proved what we already know, Derek Fisher can’t defend quick guards. His playoff experience and his ability to hit big shots is what keeps him in the starting line up.
Do the Lakers have any alternatives at this point? They don’t have many trade assets.

TyrekeJonesParticipantPeople like to make the argument that he is able to hit clutch shots when needed for his team to win but I always say do you really think they would be in that position if he wasn’t in the game, all I am saying as a Laker fan is other then veteran leadership, he hurts your team more then helps them, and that is a major problem, with so many good PGs in our league today, he simply cannot stop them on defense and cannot get past them on offense. I love Fisher and have respect for him, he is just way past doing anything as a player.

llperezhe showed in the playoffs he could do better. But during the regualr season, almost nobody in hte media calls him out. Kobe gets scrutinized, pau gets scrutinized, ron gets scrutinized, but derek is a respected vet so hes hands off with the media and nobody says anything. Oh well, maybe he will be due for some decent games down the stretch.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantThe Lakers must feel like Mubarak, everyone is Turning on them.1st it was Jerry West, then Magic now LL Perez the West Coast Ambassador is Bashing them…lol

Specialt25ParticipantLakers need to get a new PG soon. i cant believe they signed fish for 3 more years this summer at the age of 36.
and Blake isnt as great a pickup as we hoped. wouldve been better off with RIDNOUR for 4 mil. I think even Farmer wouldve been helpful cuz atleast he can create for others by driving in the paint.
Blake: 4.6 ppg, 2.0 assists. 38% fg 39% 3p% 20 mpg
Farmer: 9.5 ppg, 4.4 assists. 38% fg 37% 3p% 24 mpg
Ridnour: 11.5 ppg, 5.7 assists. 47% fg 44% 3p% 29 mpg

OhCanada-Participant"All i can do is watch him struggle on the court and hope he picks it up in the playoffs."
Doesnt he every year?
Seems you guys in LA are always searching for things to be upset about, no affense. If Fisher was traded to Toronto today our announcers would praise him and say how he brings such an unpresidented intensity as far as defense and leadership goes lol. In LA hes your weakest link… He doesnt are about these stupid games, he wants the playoffs.

OhCanada-ParticipantStill IMO I think Hinrich would be a nasty deadline acquisition for the Lakers.

steviechillzParticipanti hate this guy so much. I agree with all posts that hate on dfish. He flops, his slower than molasses, and he is a cry baby. hes a complete unprofessional and should hopefully retire this yearrrrrrrrrrrrr
0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/03/2011 - 9:33pm #482870

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantWoah Stevie.. Fisher is not unprofessional whatsoever. So whatever you want about his game during the regular season, but he’s as professional as it gets, on and off the court.

OhCanada-ParticipantFish is the posterchild (man) for NBA professionalism.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantfor someoen to say d fish is unprofessional is completley absurd hes one of the most respected guys in the leauge and u dont get that by being unprofessional i have no problem with people knocking his game he is straight strugglin this year but to knock his professionalism is absurd

IndianaBasketballParticipantI haven’t done my salary cap research, but don’t the Lakers have a trade exception? Is it enough for them to acquire Hinrich from the Wizards?
They NEED a player like Hinrich at the point. He has size, defends and, though he isn’t shooting it as well as he used to, can still knock down the open jumpshot.
I’d like to see the Lakers acquire him. Fisher provides great leadership and does knock down clutch shots when they count, but he’s washed up. I know he’s Kobe’s guy and the Lakers respect him, but he needs to take a lesser role.

goneParticipantIt is very annoying to watch Fisher play like someone said he is slow and cant defend so he uses "verteran tatics" flopping, throwing arms, complaining….
0 - Posted on: Fri, 02/04/2011 - 9:48am #482940

NYCrealdealParticipantthe way he plays anyone who flops every game is not a baller in my book

Afactor4ParticipantTell this to the bandwagon Laker fans here in Glendale,CA and they’ll call you a "fake fan".
"You don’t understand Derek Fisher is a great defender and he does all the little things Dawg"

mikeyvthedonParticipant5 Championships with him as your teams PG and you still b-itch!? I mean, I know there are better point guards out there, that he is getting old and that he usually is the person on the Lakers starting line-up who puts up the least amount of numbers. Still, boo hoo, you have a bad PG who has started on every NBA Championship team Kobe has. Get over it! Lakers fans complaining about Fisher at PG should put things in perspective. I like the Lakers a lot too, but it is like complaining that your Ribeye is only 16 ounces when you wanted it to be 18. If LA does not win a championship this year, I am assuming very little of that will have to do with Derek Fisher, who plays well when it matters and constantly hits big shots. He is the guy you give the ball to at the end of the game when Kobe is covered, and I rarely remember him choking. But, he only hit a shot that changed the entire NBA Finals two years ago with Orlando and made Stan Van Gundy look like a moron. He also makes Kobe incredibly happy. Kobe may have wanted Jason Kidd, but he never said "Trade Fish".
Yes, their are better PG’s out there, but the Lakers still are ridiculously talented, and you guys are not going to get Stephen Curry or Chris Paul without having to get rid of a huge piece. My advice? Be happy with a team that could still compete for the NBA championship! You barely lost last night, and a number of guys had horrible games. No one stops Tony Parker, it has kind of been a constant. Tell me a PG who stops Tony Parker? Steve Nash consistently got squashed by Tony Parker up until he was destroyed by injuries last year. Oh wait, he doesn’t score double digits? But you have 5 guys that do? Man, I am so sorry. LL, you are my boy, but chill on the Fisher bashing. Bash a PG with no rings, who plays no defense or has not stepped up in crucial moments. But even with Fisher looking like a retiree, him playing PG still gives them a chance to win a ring. It may be scary, but it could be way worse than having a 5 time champ running 1. Plus, do not tell me Steve Blake is better, because that is simply not true.

andxxxParticipantWhy would the Wizards want Fisher when they’re trying to get younger??
0 - Posted on: Fri, 02/04/2011 - 11:41am #482990

llperezmikeyvthedon, i respect your opinion, but i have to disagree to an extent. Make it clear that i do have a great amount of respect for derek and everything he has done. I also never brought up getting rid of him or moving him to the bench. I have faith the lakers as an entir eteam will get it turned around. WIth that said, derek is playing awful. 5 rings or not, i dont want to sit back and watch the team lose this next one. Lots of lakers have been called out and none of them are playing anywhere near as poorly as fisher, not even ron artest. I dont consider myself an ungrateful fan, but i will criticize when i feel it is just and vent when guys dont bring it.
