Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantMudiay signed a one-year, 1.2 million dollar deal with a Chinese team, Guangdong I think I spent that right… Not a bad deal, can someone post his progress overseas? It’d be cool to see/hear how he plays.

ZarathustraParticipantExpanding his game there ? Expanding is wallet for sure…I liked the idea of going to France who has a decent league and his easier to adapt assuming Mudiay speaks french.Well,we’ll see.
Not the best move on a basket-ball standpoint in my opinion.

ZarathustraParticipantIt’s 99% money and 1% basket-ball,i think he could have done an other choice.Possibly 500k in France is still a lot of money, well maybe he has to feed a huge family…I’m not judging him.

TarHeelRavenParticipantOuch. China will not improve his game in my humble opinion. Not anywhere close to the competition he would’ve gotten playing for Larry Brown at SMU or even at a high level league somewhere in Europe. Can’t fault the man for getting paid to support his family, but in terms of basketball development decisions, a very poor one. He’ll get drafted next year because of his physical gifts but will already be behind in terms of level of competition. Guys like Okafor, Stanley Johnson and the plethora of Kentucky prospects will be spending their season playing against elite athletes in college and be prepared for the NBA. Mudiay will spend this season in anonimity in China against non-NBA athletes. Wish the man well but it will be a struggle for him once he gets drafted.

the I in winParticipantI don’t know much about international ball but china has always seemed like the place old players go for one last hooray, not for the development of prospects. Also I’m not sure about the hype on Australia, James Ennis was almost the MVP over there. AIS makes some good prospects but they are developing kids to the next level, not men to a pro level.

doubledribblerParticipantI don’t think it is a bad move if he works hard and takes this as a year to get an idea of what it is like playing as a professional. Financially the move is pretty smart. Assuming he doesn’t get hurt I would still say he is a top 10 lock, he gets paid 1.2 million this year, who knows what he will get in endorsements and if he does well I am sure he may develop a following from there when he comes back which is only going to help his pockets.
While Europe sounds like a good idea, the problem is that he could go there and not get playing time. There is an adjustment playing in Europe, just like how some of the guys that play in the European leagues might take a couple of years to adjust over here. I think that is the bigger risk.If he ever falls out of the NBA he will still have a place for him in China.

Memphis MadnessParticipant$1.2 million and playing time?
That’s hard to turn down.
Euro teams mainly play their own guys. They also ration minutes.
Brandon Jennings played in Europe, but he has yet to be an all-star.
Ricky Rubio is a classic Euro point guard but he isn’t an all star either. He might have actually regressed in Europe since he was better as a teenager.
Mudiay needs to learn how to be "the guy" and to learn how to be a pro and handle money.
One guy thinks he will still be a top two pick.
I think he will be a top five pick, depending on the draft order.
What COULD hurt him is if Dante Exum struggles (like he did in summer league). Then that would be a red flag for guys who don’t do the whole college to the NBA thing.
I hope Mudiay does well. I am bummed I won’t get to see him play the Memphis Tigers, but he is going to get PAID and he will still be a lottery pick.

phila9012ParticipantI am surprised he wound up going to china, I know the money is nice but the culture is so much different there compared to the Europe. Europe at least isn’t as different of a place as china is compared to the US. If he can handle the culture shock then great for him because there is going to be a huge one there and it will show his maturity if he is able to adjust and he will learn more life skills being a professional over there than he would if he went to college in the USA. I am rooting for him to succeed so that more players will see the value of skipping college and playing somewhere around the world for a year or 2. Then when he comes back he is more marketable in China and will have grown up a lot and also have made $1.2 million.

sixersman111ParticipantAmazing idea by Mudiay because he is going to make a fortune on his endorsements contracts over there and will have a huge fan base even before he plays a NBA game
