k, most people know the love i have for the grizzlies. for thabeet’s first year averages, i’m assuming :

    8ppg, 6rpg, 0.5apg, 1.6bpg, 0.5spg, 2.5tpg. FG%=52, ft%=68.4. 22mpg, 64 games. i do not think he will start over gasol.

    ‘no prisoners, no mercy’.

Those look like pretty accurate stats. I don’t think he will start over Gasol either this year. I kinda get the feeling that Gasol may be traded eventually.

the phoenix pick that okc has could very well not be a lottery pick this year.

why would you hand gasol over on a silver platter to a young powerful team that needs a good young center?

That pick will probably be a mid 1st rounder….. I think Gasol is actually worth more than that. Maybe if OKC gave up that pick & Ibaka & a 2nd round pick.

i would ask for okc’s pick, and phoenix’s pick or 2010…make sure they’re unprotected picks.

being realistic about it, i see okc being an 8th seed or 10th best in the west….and end up being 10-12th in the lottery. Phoenix will make a move sometime this year….signing nash to an extension, buying wallace out, and not trading amar’e means the suns are aiming for the playoffs…meaning their pick isn’t lottery

the Grizz would be fine with those stats for Thabeets first year. I would’nt expect anymore then that though. I’m sure the Grizz are much more concerned about how he rotates on defense and clogs up the lane as well as how he defends his own man more so then what he scores at the other end.

Those numbers look similar to Oden’s. Pretty good for not starting.

Maybe I’m a pessimist on Thabeet… but I think 8 ppg is out of his reach next year, he will get time to develop as the season progresses but he is still very much a work in progress hopefully for Griz fans he won’t get too discouraged.

I’m someone who refuses to call someone a bust after summer league or even a year or two in the league… BUT Thabeet just didn’t look very good to me this summer. I’m not so sure about him. It wasn’t even about the numbers he put up… It was his heart. I’m not sure he has enough of it. I hate to say it, but the numbers you think he’ll put up may be a little too high for his first season.

the stats may be too high tezo, i agree. but i don’t think we can call him a bust until 1.5 years in the league.

i watched him against okc…and i think something is holding him back. shock transition maybe..the hype he got…now he’s gotta live up to it. he did have that shoulder issue before the draft. i don’t know, you could very well be dead on, i also didn’t think he did much in the summer league.

tezo- that is a true statement. Thabeet has to get motivated. He doesn’t play inspired basketball.

IMO, he is satisfied. I mean think about it. The guy just started playing like 6 years ago and he has already reached the summit of basketball in the world. He is the only person from where ever he is from to ever do this. The guy could be good if he doesnt get happy with here he is.

is that almost everyone on this site was saying before the draft that the grizz would be making a big mistake if they took him second, especially the Grizz fans. So if he does become a bust, it will look really bad for the grizz managment. It’s one thing to be a monday morning quarterback critic, but to have everyone predicting it a mistake ahead of time makes the pick look even worse if it does’nt work out. My biggest problem with the grizz taking him number2, is that even at best, I only see Thabeet being an okay player. Maybe like a dalembert or something, but not really worth the number 2 pick regardless of how down the draft was. Guys like Harden, Evans, Rubio, Derozan and Hill all have more potential then thabeet long term.
