I think Shawn Bradley is one of the most underrated players of all-time , sure he has a top ten dunk montage of himself as the leading star, but we have to remember this guy put crazy numbers up…..he would average 13pts 8rebs 4 blks….this guy was a defensive presence and wouldn’t really care if he got dunked on……..he just knew he wasn’t going to give the opponent an easy basket

Is i think was just in a way a Tracy Mcgrady but is always thought he was a role player cause of Micheal Jordan. But he would have been very impressive by himself and even though he is a very popular player he is still underrated

Bradley was underrated, he lead the league in blocks twice and had career averages of 8 6 and 2, but thats some misinformation about All-Star games and never averaged 5 blocks per game, that being said my underrated team

Is definitely a term that does not apply to Shawn Bradley, the second pick in the 1993 draft. When exactly did he make the All-Star team (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/bradlsh01.html)? Just look at the link, I checked to make sure, but knew it was never Shawn. He was a good shot blocker, yes, but never much of a contribution to a winning team and his .457 career shooting percentage is abysmal for a post player. I do not think he was ever even close to being a top 10 or so center in the NBA at any given season in his career and was routinely thrown around by shorter, stronger players.

As far as underrated players go, I have a hard time putting players into that category. If you are talking about players whose accomplishments would surprise you by how little they are known, Michael Adams has to be up there, as he was under 6 feet and averaged 25 per game in one year with Washington. I would also say that Kendall Gill was a guy I always thought was underrated, but at a time David Stern listed him as one of the better yoiung players in his league. Charles Oakley was just a beast and a winner, even though he never got a ring. Michael Cage was a huge rebounder and I was reading about Larry Smith when I looked up an article on Chris Washburn, and the guy sounded like a beastly rebounder. I have to admit that Shawn Bradley was an impressive shot blocker, but I do not feel it is justified to say he is underrated, or even close to being one of the most underrated players of all time.

I guess he just played himself, but i would have loved to see a Chuck Norris/ Shawn Bradley face off, … It would have been way better than when Bruce Lee fought Kareem on screen, haha

that man was the man with the clippers and the cavs he went to the bulls and just dished the ball before going to the bulls he averaged over 20 a game then went to the bulls and lakers and became a big role player in championship teams

People forget how good Larry Johnson was. He was one of the most dominating players in the league when he played for Charlotte. He seems to have been forgotten by alot of people. The Grandma was sick.

Alvin Robertson and “Fat” Lever come to mind. 2 do it all guards that were particulartly terrific on the defensive end where players tend to be under rated.

Chris Washburn ruined a very promising career by abusing drugs and being a burglar. Stealing televisions instead of basketballs is no way to enhance ones career. He was out of basketball by age 24 I think. Can’t consider him underrated, just never lived up to potential.

Oh and I have to be a homer and put Walt “Clyde” Frazier in the conversation. He is one of the best PG’s ever but he doesnt get the credit. Everybody remember when Willis Reed reemerged in the finals game 7 against the Lakers but nobody realizes that Frazier carried the team to the championship with 36 points, 19 assists, and 7 rebounds. He is also possibly the greatest defensive PG of all time. He averaged 19 pts, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals in his career. He would have averaged more but steals werent an official stat until the ’73-’74 season.

Having graduated from S.I.U., I am a huge Frazier fan! One of the greatest of all time, in fact chosen as one of top 50. With that said, I think it’s hard to call him underrated, but I do agree, his name should be mentioned sooner when lists of all-time great guards/players is discussed.

Paul Westphal, Jack Sikma, Dan Majerle all come to mind in the talk of underrated players.

Ron Harper was pretty darn good for Cavs too. He was a great player. Price/Nance/Harper/Daugherty made good team. Bulls however made great team! Speaking of which, how about Horace Grant. His ability to help with press, rebound, block shots and can an open jumper made him a big piece of Bulls puzzle. With MJ. Pippen, Rodman and Kukoc, Grant was seldom talked about but did valuable things for his team.

Sydney Moncrief isn’t talked about much either. Great player didn’t get recognized playing in Milwaukee.

How did Jamal only make one All-Star team? I mean seriously, this guy was a monster at the SF position and he never got the credit he deserved. His career averages were 19.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 4 apg and 1 spg. This guy was the best player that no one ever talked about in the late 90s hands down.

Mark Jackson and Kevin Johnson are seriously underrated as pgs. Both were exciting to watch and don’t get the credit they deserve. Johnson is the only player in NBA history to average 20 points, 10 assists, 2 steals and a .500 field goal percentage in on season and Jackson has the second most assists in NBA history. Both (especially Jackson) should be seriously considered for the Hall of Fame.

I’ll say Oscar Robertson. Never thought of when people discuss greatest of all time. He is definitely in my top 3. Dude averaged a triple double one season. Wasn’t flashy but he got the job done.

and last but not least…Mugsy Bouges. For a little man Mugsy was quick as lightning and was able to dish the ball real well. He may have been 5’3…but he proved he belonged.
