In this draft, is there a player who will get a max contract when their rookie contract runs out (4-5 years)? If so, who?

I think this is a good way to evaluate ‘upside.’ I guess i don’t see many players from this draft getting a max, but I especially do not see it happening with Porter, Oladipo, or Zeller. Best chances are Bennett, Len, and Noel (in that order) and Outside chances are McLemore and KCP.

hmmmmm not sure if anyone from this draft will ever get a max, but i think i’ll roll with Trey Burke. dude looked nice against all these other guys that were better “athletes” than him. Throughout the whole year when i watched him he shined, and far brighter than anyone else who was ever on the floor w/against him.

Its possible… but he has to be better then Curry, Lawson, Holiday, Conely etc…all players getting paid between 10-12 per. At his height, Trey Burke better be Chris Paul good to get a Max deal. No easy feat and I seriously doubt it turns out that way.

There is also positional Supply and Demand to factor in. The NBA is currently experiencing a lack of highly skilled bigmen, however, the supply of talented PG’s developing in the NBA is very high at the moment.

over the open market. If Curry hit this market as a restricted free agent he would get 4 years and 60. Matter of fact Curry probably could get the 5 year 80 or something in the 70’s. Holiday, if Bynum played last year could have been a potential max guy. I doubt Burke is a max guy but I don’t see why more guys don’t bet on themselves and hit the market. Even guys like Batum and Ersan Ilyasova got way better deals just because they waited. The League has a cap because it knows it can’t help itself. All those bigs waited and thats why McGee, Jordan, Hibbert and Lopez got those big deals.

i agree with you, its pretty unlikely……….its just my opinion that out of the whole class he was the only one who looked like a star while he played. I wouldnt put my money on him ever getting a max deal, but if i had house money and had to bet…..it’d be him. idc how tall he is and how MCW has an incredible vert., theres no way i think MCW ends up a better player in 5 years than Burke

I think it’s too difficult to say who’s going to win Rookie of the Year this season, let alone who gets a max

That’s true, we don’t even know who will play 25 minutes a game outside of Porter and McLemore. There may be less than 5 guys who will start this year.

I’d say Len is the safest bet. Teams always over-pay for big men.
