Stephen A. BaylessParticipantMonta Ellis to the Pacers for 4 years $44 million is an absolute steal. I’m a Mavs fan and I think it’s crazy how underrated he and some other players have become. I understand the current Fads and trust me I know the strengths and weaknesses of Monta, but $11million a year was a good solid deal for him now. It’ll be crumbs for a fringe-all star in the future.
He was one of the 24 best players around All-Star time this year but Dirk’s popularity and a number’s game out West cost him the nod. He could very easily be an All-Star in the East just like Millsap before him.
Obviously he can’t carry the load, but playing next to PG-13 this could be a dangerous team. George Hill isn’t a great playmaker but is a great off the ball 3pt shooter and can guard 1’s and 2’s. They mesh so well. They need to fill out their roster but the Pacers could be an interesting team in the East.

Sewok15ParticipantIf Matthews is gonna get 15 million coming off an Achilles injury then Monta Ellis who only missed 2 games the last 3 seasons while scoring 19 points per game is absolutely a steal.

IndianaBasketballParticipantHill’s natural position is more of a combo and he’s solid playing without the ball, but he didn’t respond well in 2013/2014 when Vogel put the ball in Lance’s hands more.
While Hill has the length, he’s only 6′ 2"… He’ll be able to get away with defending some two’s, but will struggle against the bigger/stronger guys. I don’t love a Hill/Ellis backcourt defensively and wonder if the Pacers will try to get Ellis to come off of the bench similar to Stuckey last season. I doubt it though.

markfitz14ParticipantNow they need to reload at the PF position, They can really compete as long as PG13 comes back strong.
I wonder if Myles Turner is advanced enough to play big minutes his rookie year????

festar35ParticipantIndiana has lacked an offensive punch next to PG the last few seasons, Ellis brings that in bunches and should be affective. Hill had a great season last season and I think Indiana moves faster this year which will create just as many opportunities for Hill as last year whilst Ellis can get his as well. Hill, Ellis and George will be the main scorers and no reason they all can’t put up good numbers.
I am still for trading Hibbert to bring in a PF of the cap room to get a PF, risk Mahinmi as the starter and give Turner a chance to back-up.
C. Mahinmi/Turner PF. FA(Bass/Scola)/Allen(bring back on new deal)/Whittington SF. George/Solo/Rudez SG. Ellis/Miles PG. Hill/FA/Young

HitsterParticipantWith the money some other guys have been getting, Monta looks to be one of the cheaper pick ups. The guy is mainly an offensive scoring threat but he is a career 19ppg guy across 10 seasons, has very good durability and is still only 29 years old.
The Kings apparently offered him slightly more and this deal takes him well into his 30’s when his scoring may decrease but he’d still be an excellent impact bench guy. He will likely be 2nd option along with Hill for the Pacers behind Paul George.
The Pacers still have a whole at PF as it would be asking a lot of Turner to start there in his first season and they would need to move someone to create significant cap space unless they decide to use Paul George as a stretch 4 with Solomon Hill at SF.
