Hear me out.  How many players (especially in basketball try to leave other sports out of it) have improved their draft stock by going back to college after a fantastic season where they are a consesus lottery pick?

I will make the argument that if MKG and T Rob were to stay in college another season it would hurt their draft stock in the 2013 draft.

I will take it a step further (gasp) and say that is why I think these two guys are being a little over rated.

I will give you the quick snap shot if they stayed another year at college and what the new consensus would be.

MKG – Great motor, winner, defender blah blah.  But he needs to drastically improve his shot and overall offensive skill set.

T Rob – Great motor, winner, rebounder blah blah blah.  But he needs to improve his shot, finishing skills, polish his post game.  Oh and he’s a little undersized for his position (I hate that term but you people would say it).

It sounds an awful lot like Barnes, Sullinger, Noah, Singler etc.  There are a ton of cases where a player’s draft stock was in the lottery and then slipped after they went back to college.  Why did it slipped?

People saw their weaknesses further and realized that it most likely won’t improve.

Last year look at Sullinger – He is a great scorer but has a weight issue and has "trouble" against big men.  He went back to college and guess what he still has basically the same problem.  Killed his draft stock.

With that being said I think people that are in love with MKG and TRob after they had one great season are the same people that would bash them for their weaknesses the next year if they stayed in college.  Both these guys are riding high off the momentum of the NCAA tourney and everyone loves them.

I like them and think they will be solid players but I don’t think they are as good as players like Barnes and Sullinger who are being bashed.

I will take Barnes over MKG for their position

I will take Sullinger over TRob for their position.

You can bash me all you want. But if MKG and Trob were to stay in college another year you would be looking at Barnes and Sullinger of 2013.  Why?  Because there would be two guys who had great season coming off NCAA tourney runs and you would nit pick every aspect of MKG and TRobs game because you have seen what they really are.  Not what the one year hyped version (oh he will fix that hitch in his shot version).

To clarify I think MKG and TRob are solid player but I don’t think they are the 2 and 3 best prospects in the draft.

IDK about over rated.. Its hard to say..

    Here is what I think..

Gilchrist is going to be a very versatile player but very rarly an All-Star.  Could be great but I dont see it.. He doenst have that 1 skill to build his game around.  Most great players had 1 great skill to build their game around. Once they got to the league, they started getting better at everything else.  Lebron was the best athlete in the NBA the day he walked through the doors.. He built his game around that.  Other guys were great scorers, rebounders, defenders, or shooters.. I dont see any of that with Gilschirst.. If you had to pick out his strongest attribute, he is a great defender..  I guess we will see.

I think he is expeded to be more that he will.. Does that mean he is overrated?? IDK..

Robinson does have 1 thing going for him.. He is a great athlete with a NBA body. Everyone hates when I say this but I think he compares best to Amare Stoudamire.. When Amare enterd the league, he was a great athlete that dunked every ball he touched.. After a few years in the league, he added other things, like a jumper, that made him a truly great player..

I think that he is looked at to be below Amare’s level.  So maybe I over rate Robinson because I remember the transformation that Amare made..

NOW to your point about who is better..

I think that Barnes will be better than MKG because Barnes has 1 skill that translates to the NBA from day 1 and that is his shooting.. Also, he has a better body than MKG.. He is a bit taller and built stronger..

I think that Robinson will be better than Sully because he has 1 great skill that translates to the NBA from day 1 and that is his athletic ability.. He also has a better body that Sully..

(((The body thing is a big deal because of the amout of time spent getting your body ready for the NBA could be time spent on your skills.  Therefore, guys that already have the NBA build, can get to work on their weaknesses instead of their body)))

I am not saying bad things about MKG or Robinson but I don’t see why there is all this hype around them. MKG i definately see and Andre Iguodala/Ron Artest/Gerald Wallace type game. Not the scorer Artest was though. I think he is a great 3rd option type guy that runs the floor and hustles. Is that good enough for the number 2 pick? IDK, I don’t think it is terrible though. T Rob I have a hard time figuring out though. I want to say I see Brandon Bass in him(more athletic). Does that extra bit of athleticism make him that much of a better player? IDK. What I like about T Rob is his rebounding.

I guess what I am getting at is I don’t think they are overrated unless you expect them to be multiple all stars. I see them more as solid 10+ year starters.

I will say there is being called over rated and then there is Perry Jones but that is whole other topic.

I agree. I’d take both Barnes and Sullinger over T-Rob and MKG. T-Rob an MKG both lack a deal of offensive polish.

if t-rob went back to kansas and played the way this year he would be the college player of the year and would possibly be a number 1 pick

idk about overated the reason these 2 players are so valued in this draft because there is no risk in taking mkg and trob yea they might not turn out to be stars but at worst they are solid nba players who will help your team win games you know what your gonna get from them where as with alotta these other guys in the draft you dont

I would definitely have to take trob over sully and possibly mkg over barnes(im a unc fan). Mkg and barnes may require a little more thought I can see it either way. Trob and sully not a question. While i don’t see either being incredibly good I can see Trob’s motor and athleticism doing some good things for him. Sully needs to end up with popovich because he is the best with player development in my opinion.
