valentineLets talk MKG.
Today’s line was 3/5fg, 6/6ft, 11 rebs, 4st, 2blk, 12 points.
I saw a previous post that mentioned they still had a lot of faith in him, so I decided to keep a close eye on him.
If he never improves his jump-shot, yet fills up the box score in several other categories like tonight, can he be a borderline all-star?

DondiJohnParticipantJack of all trades, master of none especially on the offensive end. He will hustle and fight for the ball. He might not be an all star in the next 3-4 years with Lebron,Love,Anthony,George,Noah and others in the East Line-up.
I think he’s the forward version of Joakim Noah less the passing. He plays with a high motor and will compete day in and out and a stud defensively

BenchWarmerParticipantReminds me very much of Gerald Wallace. All out hustle, and also in the sense that both were/are limited offensively. Hes so young and has the work ethic to be very successful, kids with his work ethic stick around.. waaaay to early to write him off.

King CaluchaParticipantI agree that Gerald Wallace would be a good comparison. Also, that would probably be his absolute ceiling. Remember… Wallace put around 15-19ppg for some seasons in Charlotte… I don’t think MKG will ever average that, but he can be a solid role player.
For a moment, let’s forget where he got picked. He’s never going to fulfill the expectations for a #2 pick… he’s just too limited offensively. If he puts 14ppg, 7rpg, 2apg, 1.5spg, 1bpg for 3 seasons… that would be a huge win for Charlotte.

ChewyParticipanthe will be a player who is defined by his contract.
If he gets a huge contract people will start calling him overrated and bagging on him about his jumpshot.
If he gets a lower contract people will love him for being a team player like all the love Jimmy Butler is getting now.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI haven’t seen them play this preseason but the clips of his mechanics are different with a on target elbow and a better over the top arch.
Charlotte is going to be on my intriguing League pass watch list with the T’Wolves, Nuggets and the Suns.

B-ball fanParticipantHe has improved his jump shot, at least technically. His jump shot was so bad before that eliminating the hitch almost has to improve the results, although who knows by how much.

HitsterParticipantMKG strikes me as being a bit similar to Iggy in that he’s not a superstar but he’ll likely have a good NBA career as he has a solid all round game. He’s not great at one part of his game but he doesn’t have a glaring weakness either.
A very good point was made about the size of any second contract defining what people think of him as a player long term.
Ironically his Hornets team mate Marvin Williams was drafted 2nd back in 2005 and whilst he never became the star some thought he would, he has moulded a very solid NBA career, got a decent 2nd contract and now a 3rd contract and is going into his 10th NBA season. MKG was drafted 2nd in 2012, perhaps seen as a possible star but looks to be more a very solid NBA player. If he coul have a career at the Marvin Williams level as a downside it wouldn’t be the worse ever.
