CavsFan07ParticipantMitch McGary will enter the 2014 NBA Draft.
Points to discuss:
– Where will he land? Obviously not entering last year was a huge mistake and it’s highly unlikely he will be selected even at the end of the 1st.
– The NCAA bans players for 1 year if you test positive for marijuana on the first offense? That seems incredibly harsh.
Thoughts?

HomerKangParticipantHe should be going back to school. Don’t know what he’s thinking. Not only will he be taken late in the second round, but he’ll most likely be a bust in the league.

Lotto StudParticipantYou do realize the suspension would be for the year right?
Stock has took a bit of a hit since last season. Heading into this draft he will be 22, which may or may not hurt him depending on how he is perceived. All in all he just cannot afford to sit out a whole season at his age as a Jr.

HomerKangParticipantWhatever. He’s gonna be a bust. I wish you people would stop getting so butt hurt about everything and neg others coz your pretty little feelings were hurt. You people need to grow up and use your god-given heads instead and realize a bust when it’s a bust, and a success when there are actually some talent or potential there. Now, one of his teammates, GR3….now, that’s talent right there. And, despite his down year at Michigan this year, he’s a potential franchise changer, you’ll see.

HomerKangParticipantHow am I a "butthurt idiot" when I didn’t cry or anything about GR3 yet the way idiots like you are crying about and negging me for my comments on McGary ? Apparently your another one that I struck a nerve with about your love affair with him. You know what ? You can’t handle the truth, so go cry to yo mama that I said McGary’s GONNA STINK IN THE LEAGUE, AND GR3 WILL BE BETTER IN THE LEAGUE THAN HE WAS IN COLLEGE, BIYATCH !!!

Mad MaxParticipantHmm because I said McGary was good? Wait I didn’t, I don’t think he’ll last very long in the NBA.
Can you calm down now that I agreed with you?

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantHe failed a drug test, so he cant go back to school unless he sits out a year. Hes 22 i think? so hes not doing that. He can have a sullinger type impact on the draft, (back problems, but turn into a solid player). Maybe Sixers gamble on him with one of their 5 second round picks

RUDEBOY_Participant1 year is a little extreme..even the ncaa admitted a 1 year ban was too harsh for a recreational drug,so on april 15th they lowered the punishment ,but only to half a year..mcgary decision was made under the old rules……maybe this decision might be another reason for college players to form a union..
mcgary made a mistake not coming out last year..but if his back checks out ok,he could be the steal of the draft…unlike alot of players in this draft, mcgary is ready to contribute to a team right now….

HaleParticipantI remember you were really high on him last year before he blew up. I thought it was dumb at the time but now it seems like he’s really underrated. Drugs and injuries are some red flags but he’s easily a 1st round talent.

Memphis MadnessParticipant^^^
McGary on the Sixers is a good call. Not much of a shooter either, but he can bang, decent athlete, and a solid passer.
I am just thinking that the guys from last year’s championship game should have gone pro after last season. McGary should have declared. Glenn Robinson III didn’t help himself much by staying. Chane should have declared after the championship. He kind of fell off the map and JUST declared for the draft. … Russ Smith didn’t help his draft stock, and probably hurt it. … Luke Hancock didn’t help his draft stock either after an MOP performance.
McGary should have declared after the Final Four last year, but hindsight is 20/20. Miss another full year with a weed suspension? Yeah, you go pro NOW. You can’t miss a full year, then come back as a 24 year old senior. Doesn’t make any sense, especially with the influx of big men into college basketball over the next couple of seasons.
His draft stock PEAKED after the 2013 Final Four. It has been going down since then, and next year he wouldn’t even be on the map. He would be better off in the D League next year, getting paid, improving his game in front of scouts, instead of sitting it out on the U of M sidelines. … also it is a weak draft for bigs. A Tier 1 guy in Embiid. A Tier 1 or 2 guy in Randle, with Aaron Gordon being a Tier 2 kind of player. Then Tier 3 has Adreian Payne MAYBE. That’s it as far as impact bigs go. The second round has a FEW bigs, a couple of project centers like Isiah Austin, Walter Tavares, and Sim Bhular, with a semi-skilled Patric Young, and a tweener forward in James McAdoo being the prime big man options of the second round. So, not much there either.
If the Sixers first round looks something like Julius Randle (with their own pick) and James Young with the Pelicans pick, I can see them going after McGary at 48, 52, or 54 as a third big behind Noel and Randle.
If he has a few good workouts, I could see McGary moving up into the first part of the second round.
