scootover7ParticipantIt is known that the Minnesota Timberwolves are getting the number 2 pick next Thursday night in the NBA Draft. What should they do with it? Many think they should trade it off. The only problem I have with it is the fact its the closest pick to number one I’ve seen them have. Here below are some suggestions they can do with the number two pick.
1) Keep the Number 2 and draft Derrick Williams- this is of course if Kyrie Irving is off the board. Some say Derrick Williams is a lot like Beasley. I feel that Williams will be better or just as good as Beasley. I think Williams will be a 20 point scorer and I personally like him alongside Kevin Love and Michael Beasley. Some may not but I do.
2) Keep the Number 2 and draft Kyrie Irving- Ok I know with Rubio coming over this may be a bad option. I heard that Cuban was interesting in Rubio and T-Wolves were interested in getting a veteran. I don’t know how well this would work but what if Dallas trades off Shawn Marion this 2011 and 2012 first rounders for Ricky Rubio and takes also on Darko Milicic. Not that Darko is great but he could be a backup to Dirk or Chandler, Haywood. You could have a lineup of Irving, Wesley Johnson, Shawn Marion, Michael Beasley and Kevin Love
3) Trade the number 2 pick – This is also depending on who they land. Once talk was something about the Raptors would trade there 5th pick to move up to the 2nd pick. This I heard was only if they drafted Irving. If Toronto drafted Jan Vesely with the 5th pick and traded him to T-Wolves for either Derrick Williams or Kyrie Irving that would be a good trade for the Raptors.
4) Keep the number 2 pick and draft Enes Kanter- I really am not sold on this idea though. I’m not really sure I could see a frontcourt of Michael Beasley, Kevin Love and Enes Kanter existing very well. It could work but I just don’t see it.
Minnesota Timberwolves are a team I feel sorry for. Ever since the trade of Sam Cassell and a 1st rounder for Marko Jaric this franchise has gone down the toilet. I really do feel sorry for T-Wolves fans. I do like to root for the underdog teams at times. I also like to watch the NBA Draft to see what underdog teams will do on draft night. I do feel this team needs a veteran and its not likely that they would get Jason Terry from the Mavericks which is why I made the Shawn Marion suggestion. I also thought it was nuts when Kahn drafted three point guards in 2008 I think it was. T-Wolves have two first round picks in this draft the #2 pick and the #20 pick. So I hope Kahn drafts smart and takes Williams with the #2 pick and take Marshon Brooks with the #20 pick
This is an article I wrote at http://nbaballinstuff.blogspot.com I hope I’m not spamming here because that is not my intention at all.

Awesome-O-420ParticipantOption 2 makes no sense at all. Mavs get Rubio and Darko and Wolves get 2 future picks that have little value as the Mavs will be picking in the late 20’s next 2 years. Marion only has value to a team contending for a championship, not a team that is a long ways from the playoffs. Plus, he just proved to be an important defensive role in their championship.
Option 3 is just as stupid as well. "If Toronto drafted Jan Vesely with the 5th pick and traded him to T-Wolves for either Derrick Williams or Kyrie Irving that would be a good trade for the Raptors."
So basically they swap picks? Not sure either team is looking to save money so much they simply swap picks. And the rumors don’t have Minnesota seeking that option, they want a big vet to help them rebuild – not cash saving moves that do not help them reach the playoffs.
I think trades must be the most frustrating topic on this website because very few people seem to propose anything that doesn’t strongly favor one team – when in reality that rarely happens in the NBA, (except the Kwame for Gasol trade a few years ago).
I say your stuff is crazy and stupid, but if Kwame for Gasol can happen, then anything is possible.

Nico4nicolasParticipantOne thing which is true is that there are many options for the Wolves. A trade is almost a must unless they select KANTER or even better VALANCIUNAS. Both players may seem to be a read there but they are the most logical choices regarding the current roster. As you said, to have a bigger value on the market, picking IRVING or WILLIAMS makes more sense.
I heard about a rumor where the Wizards offered MCGEE + #6 for the #2, to me, it made sense but the Wolves rejected the offer. Javal MCGEE would have bring something which is not in Minnesota (Anthony RANDOLPH can’t play center). It would have allowed the Wolves to pick somebody like VESELY or even VALANCIUNAS which are good value at #6 and bring something the team needs (considering that VALANCIUNAS has to wait 2 or 3 years in Europe).
To answer you message more specifically:
1/ I like BEASLEY, to me he has at least as much talent as WILLIAMS, they are both the same age but BEASLEY has been playing in the league for few years already. WILLIAMS defend better and is more reliable but I still believe in BEASLEY. By the way, WILLIAMS has a much higher value on the market than BEASLEY.
2/ Trading RUBIO could be an option but they waited 2 years for him and same goes here, IRVING has more value on the market. Furthermore, RUBIO is a real playmaker, what the Wolves are looking for to make the plays for BEASLEY and LOVE. IRVING is much most a scorer and wouldn’t fit beside BEASLEY and LOVE (who already complained).
3/ In my opinion, this is the best solution, look at what I wrote above. A trade with the Wizards would be great.
4/ This one makes sense even if KANTER doesn’t seem to belong to the top2. I would like to see LOVE and KANTER playing side by side, it would be quite bad for their opponents. Both of them are strong, good rebounders and can shoot from far. Their defense, however, would be quite weak, especially the blocking part. Anyhow, with RUBIO to make them play in offense, it would be nice to watch.

Nico4nicolasParticipantIn conclusion, Minnesota have few options and most of them include a trade so be ready to see something moving. I don’t feel sorry for them, they have the #2 which is always valuable, they just have to make the best of it and it’s not that easy but some people are paid a lot to do that.

HarbingerI agree keep the pick.I dont understand why fans dont understand its a team game haveing depth is important look at Dallas if they weren’t as deep and versatile as they were they wouldnt have won. Kidd and J.J, Westbrook&Maynor, Nate&Rondo, Felton&Lawson showed you haveing more then one point gaurd isnt bad so why not take Irving and Rubio and trade flynn and sebastian or if Derrick is on board keep keep him and let him pound against smaller sf in the post and have love spotting up or cutting. Beasly can score and limited minutes there’s your bench scoring along with randoplh or take Kanter since next year is a foward draft.
I dont look at this draft as being full of allstars but great pieces to add to a team so in that senses it deeper then most of you think. The 2009 draft was suppose to be weak to we see how that turned out. For example if the kings take walker they have and 3 man rotation of gaurds and a explosive back court for years to come.

3.Kemba pg

You see how and addition can change a teams depth and rotations for the lemons of the season ( foul trouble, injurys,or just in game changes etc) I think the wolves should keep the pick stay young and dont take on a huge contract yet stay flexible.

PulseGlazerParticipantJavale and the 6 would be fantastic. Javale would go wonderfully with Love and then they could target Jonas 6, and if not, grab someone like Kawhi or Burks.

PlatypusParticipant1. Beasley and Flynn for Chris Kaman and a 2nd rounder in 2012 and a 1st rounder in 2014
Rubio – Johnson – Williams – Love – Kaman
Ridnour – Ellington – Webster – Randolph – Biyombo

PulseGlazerParticipantSymbol – Beasley with Flynn is too much. Make it Ridnour with Beasley and we’re talking, but really, mostly because Beasley is found money. I agree the Wolves need to get Biyombo with a later pick, but am reasonably concerned with the health of Kaman. If he checks out as healthy and in shape, however… why not? I’d also be looking to score Beidrins from GS now that he’s said to be motivated again. The guy was a beast and no one seems to remember that.

WolvesFutureParticipantWon’t be traded, the Wolves front office set up local endorsements to pay for Ricky’s buy out.
