Is this it for Mike Brown? I think if he fails to deliver this year or the next that is it for him as the HEAD coach in the nba.

Phil is waiting with zen-like patience. Mike Brown is a great defensive coach, but offensive schemes should not be left up to him.

The Lakers will not deliver a championship in the next two years. It just won’t happen. Although they have possibly the most offensively talented starting line in the league, that won’t be enough for two reasons:

First, they are not and never will be a great defensive team. Nash is a swinging door at the top of the key, ensuring every team with a competent pg will keep them off balance at all times. Moreover, although Kobe and Artest used to be stand-out defenders, they’re average at best with their old legs. Although I think their post defense will still be great, everything else will be up for grabs. This weak D will ensure their starting lineup doesn’t blow people away the way they should based on their offensive potential.

Second, their bench is horrific. I can’t imagine a way this changes substantially in the next two years. Their bench will probably be a net -20 or so on average this year vs. opposing benches. If that’s the case, their starters would have to absolutely decimate the opposition, which they sometimes will, but not by enough imo.

I just don’t see it happening for this team. The starting five look scary, but they’re an old version of superstars and underneath the dominance they may continue to display, there’s an empty shell. For this team to excel, the aging starters will need to play huge minutes, which could wear them down by playoff time.  They will be impressive at times, but it just isn’t likely to add up to a championship in my humble opinion.

You are absolutely right bloodshy, I agree with everything you just said, Lakers will look better as the season goes on. But that does not change the fact that they are OLD and their bench is horrendous. Their starting 5 alone will win them many games in the regular season and will dismantle some lesser teams, but with this lousy bench and age of the starters minus Dwight this team will be completely worn out come playoff time and will be ran off the court by the Thunder in my opinion.

There were moments last night that you can see the Lakers will be better once everyone gets use to what the other players are capable of doing on the floor..But that was becuz of the brilliance of Nash and Kobe,it had nothing to do with Brown…I think if they go 3 & 7 the next 10 games..Brown will be GONE!!! He’s a good defensive coach, but he is over his head whenever it comes to trying to create a system or have set plays…In Cleveland it was Lebron who helped him win coach of the year…..

There is no way, a team this talented should be using that Princeton offense…And him playing Nash off the ball is stupid…Nash needs to be Nash and run..They still to find a defensive point guard..Beccuz they had Darren Collison looking like an all star last night…Duhon use to be good a defender, but lately he’s been a scrub….

If the Lakers don’t perform to the highest level then Mike Brown could be under pressure but I don’t know if it is a title or bust as seemed to be the case in Cleveland. He got the plum Lakers job so Jerry Buss obviously rated him as a coach, if things did not work out at the Lakers, I reckon that some other owner would look at Coach Brown’s win-loss record and give him another Head Coach job.

Do we regard success as an NBA title, I would say the Lakers top brass would want to be in serious contention at least to Conference Finals time and if they went down in a tight series then fair enough or say KD dropped a couple of 40 point games. But if they got swept aside in 4 or 5 games then I could see the knives being out.

Let’s run a Princeton style offense when we have an amazing P&R combo and Kobe Bryant. That’s a good idea. He won’t finish out the year. Most people unequivocally thought it was the wrong hire originally so….
