YSUFan10ParticipantHow would you rank these non-major point guards? The list isn’t necessarily including the best mid and low major point guards, but it is a list of guys that I like as college players, and I think they are a bit underrated.
1. Kendrick Perry from Youngstown State: The leading scorer in the Horizon League as a sophomore, and when it’s all said and done he might be the best player in YSU history. Perry is definitely a streaky shooter, and needs to add some muscle, but he finds ways to score. He has very good athleticism, and is good at drawing contact and getting in the paint, and also is a pretty decent 3 point option. I’m not sure if he’ll ever really be on the NBA radar, but I would like to hear your guys opinions.
2. Frantz Massenat from Drexel: One of the leading assisters in the colonial. Massenat averaged 14 points and 5 assists to lead the Dragons to a 29-7 record. Massenat is a great play maker that shoots a great percent from three and is converts from the foul line. He plays lock down defense, and plays with great poise. With Damion Lee and Massenat emerging as two of the better CAA players, Drexel will likely be contending for a tournament birth.
3. Kwamain Mitchell from Saint Louis: Mitchell is another good playmaker, and was second on the Billikens in scoring, and will likely up his scoring total from last year with the departure of Brian Conklin. Mitchell is good at breaking down the defense, but he is also very perimeter oriented for a PG. He took and made a lot of 3’s last year and also added 4 assists per game. Out of the other PG’s I mentioned, he is the only upperclassmen, so what do you think of him as an NBA prospect?

YSUFan10ParticipantI know, it’s a sad shame that people don’t know about the underdogs, or follow low major basketball.

EDEDnowisgoneYSU they are all upperclassmen, Mitchell is the only senior, Mitchell is definitely the worst player he is older and smaller though I have seen him play a lot more than the other two so hard to say who is the best out of those guys.

FastAndFuriousParticipantKendrick Perry is a big time leaper, dude has crazy hops, if he could improve his skill level alot more, he could possibly one day sneak into the NBA, dude takes flight seriously.

sealife-alwaysParticipantKierre Greenwood is a 6’3 180 pound long and athletic point guard who has put Coastal Carolina basketball on the map since his arrival 3 years ago, and should be considered a prospect based on his skill set and athletism. The senior to be clearly is the best point guard in the Big South as well as the best player talent wise. I’m a fan and have enjoyed watching this kid make plays for his team, while always guarding the best player on the other team. A lock down defender and terrific playmaker with a high basketball IQ with tremendous speed in the open court. Coastal was 27-8 his first two years running the show and should be in contention this season. He can score, defend, and run an offense a true point guard in every sense of the word. Averaged 11 points, 5 assist, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals as a junior. Shot 43% behind the arc and 47% overall from the field while making 80% from the line. Turned down offers at bigger schools to play for Cliff Ellis as bigger doesn’t always mean better in terms of talent. He has a little Eric Maynor and Rajon Rondo to his game and could with a solid senior season open up some scouts eyes if he hasn’t already. Has a flair for hitting clutch shots late in the game with a calm demeanor on the court. To all the small school point guards out there keep putting in work someone will notice as with Damian Lillard. All they need is a chance America!

YSUFan10ParticipantI have always been a fan of players in similar positions as Greenwood. He is in a position at the low major level for a breakout senior season, and if he can not only get up to around 15 ppg, but also lead his team to a post-season tournament, then he should have a legitimate chance to get a summerleague invite. A couple years ago I was a fan of New Mexico’s Dairese Gary who was in a similar situation as Greenwood, but his career ended with a season ending injury. I always root for the small conference players, but I have come to realize that most of them I think may have a chance to be drafted, end up playing in the summer league as an undrafted free agent, and ultimately playing overseas at a high level. Greenwood can definitely play, but his ACL injury could be a red flag if he does end up making noise in the Big South.

sealife-alwaysParticipantAs a supporter and fan of Coastal Carolina basketball, I have witnessed Kierre up close and personal. He is clearly the best player on his team and has been for years. You can tell by watching him that he could easily play at the bigger conferences. His ACL of almost 19 months ago is not even a issue as he glides up the court out running his team mates so I don’t believe his knee will be a problem. Also there have been numerous of players whom have had repaired ACL’S that have been drafted or had successful careers in basketball. Tony Wroten, Quincy Miller just to name a few whom recently got drafted. I didn’t see those guys being red flagged after ACL surgery, therefore the young man will be fine which ever direction the game takes him. I believe this kid is a prospect at 6’3 180 and long wingspan with great handle and court vision. He’s a sleeper IMO

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI like Massenat of Drexel….
There are alot of other talented point guards from Mid-Majors :
*
1.Nate Wolters-South Dakota State..Could be a 2nd round pick…Averaged 21 pts/5 rbs/5 asts/..If he can extend his range,he might slip into the late 1st round….
2.Juan’ya Green-Niagra-6’4 Combo guard that could be 1 of the nation’s top scorers this season…
3.Matthew Dellavedova-St. Mary’s-Old school skilled and versatile…
4.Joe Jackson-Memphis-Talented kid,but has struggled running the point at Memphis…
5.D.J Cooper-Ohio-Lightning Quick 6 foot left hander, can find seams in the defense, and can create for himself and teammates..
