Tim49461ParticipantI was wondering what the heck is wrong with Tom Izzo why cant he get any top 10 players. Why isnt Michigan State on every big time players list. Tom Izzo has one of the winniest coaches in America right now. 6 final fours and 2 national championship appearances with 1 championship. Their tempo is fast pace.
So why are recruits shying away from this program so much? It seems like every player on the roster is from Michigan or the border of surrounding states? Did I miss an article explaining Izzo only goes after in state kids?

Chilbert arenasParticipantWinniest? …..But I’ve had this same thought. They get All-Americans but none are ever one-and-dones and are typically four year players which makes them a better program so maybe Izzo shys away from the high profile "student athletes".

Tim49461ParticipantLol just saw that mistake Winningest*. He does get All Americans but why dont these top 10 talent kids wanting to play there anyway. Im true Izzo wouldnt turn his back on them. If the track record he has I would know get to the final four if not the Championship game. Plus playing time shouldnt be a big deal because it isnt like MSU is stacked with All americans up and down the board like Duke UNC Kentucky.

Memphis MadnessParticipantGood question. Maybe Izzo liked team-oriented character guys. It seems like
UCLA is the same way. They go after guys who fit in a system. Other than Kevin
Love the Bruins have not had the big recruiting hauls that Kentucky, UNC, and Duke have had. There aren’t that many great players to go around, plus you have Syracuse, U Conn, Texas, Georgetown, Florida, and Memphis getting great players too.
There are 3 or 4 teams who get lots of elite talent every year, with 10 to 12 teams getting most of the other guys. Michigan State is somewhere in that second group.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/03/2011 - 9:18pm #539778
jeff416ParticipantIts not like they recruit bad or anything. They might not get top 10-15 recruits every year, but they normally get a lot of 4* recruits who develop all 4 years . Not every team needs to recruit one and dones to be successful.
