I’m surprised nobody has been talking about the Kings more. They have been playing very good ball and beating some very good western conference teams.

What a difference and off season makes. The Kings have been doing a masterful job of whittling down the team of all the pieces that don’t fit. (Derrick Williams is next to go in my opinion).

Coach Malone is very underrated. He’s a hard nosed defensive minded coach that has been getting the worst defensive team in basketball to play middle of the pack defense. Which is a huge upgrade. And he knows how to handle the egos of players like Boogie Cousins and Rudy Gay. He is finally instilling the ‘play for each other’ game in their heads and we are seeing the ball really move to get quality shots.  Especially with another year of the same players under his belt. If the Kings keep this up they could quite possibly win 41 games or more and Malone should win coach of the year.

     What do you all think?

BTW, there is NO WAY Cousins is omitted off the all star team this year. I understand some coaches don’t like him. But they can’t possibly ignore his big time playmaking anymore…

I love the way the Kings are playing.  Their defense looks good. Their largest weaknesses right now seem to be defending the SG position and finding offense when their second unit is in. I really hope Derrick Williams can be moved for a backup center.

If rudy can sustain this than its a good shot they will, He is trying to get max money so this season means alot to him. They also have a good rotation of big men

I am sure playing for usa basketball also helped gay and cousins. Players seem to take the next step after getting that opportunity

Darren collision was a huge pick up for them. He gives them leadership and he finally gets to be a starting pg in the league. I think the Kings are a couple of moves away from making the playoffs. Which would be a huge turn around. Boogie cousins is proving to be the best big man in the game.

I may alone here, but doesn’t Derrick Williams seem like a better fit to start along with Boogie and Gay than Thompson. Thompson may b better in interior defense but at least Williams can move his feet better. Part of this thought comes also because I really don’t like Thompson. There are some players I really just don’t like and he is one of them. The guy has a pretty big contract bu numbers don’t back it up for almost 3-4 years already. I’m tired of seeing him starting honestly.

I think Williams when playing alongside Cousins and Gay can put ressure on the defense when they are doubled because he can put iton the floor and finish in the basket or can shoot the midrange shot or hree. Thompson’s midrange shot is super inconsistent right now. I’m not giving up on WIlliams, not just yet. Hahahaha

The problem with Williams is that he has no clue that playing like a team is a good thing. Every time he gets the ball he looks for his shot, he drives into traffic or ends up shooting a terrible fade away 18 footer. He loses his man on defense by switching incorrectly and gives the other team an easy pick and roll. It’s incredible to me that even after all this time he still looks like a rookie struggling with the fact that he isn’t a star or even a go to option.

I’m not the biggest fan of Thompson as I was hoping to see much more improvement since he grabbed his current contract a few years back but he buys into the system and is not a defensive liability like Williams. You want players starting who understand that deferring to Cousins, Gay, and others will help the team more than always looking to get yours, this is what Thompson brings at the starting PF spot.
