Last year, maybe a sophomore slump, Leonard didn’t look like a future star but now with more minutes due to Lopez missing Leonard is playing like Aldridge for Portland.

Anyone surprised by his play, or his range?  I think playing with Kaman has helped, and Leonard has learned some tricks from him.  But the range, Aldridge has been automatic with his shot but Leonard seems to be even more comfortable than him from behind the arc.

Lopez, Aldridge and then with Kaman and Leonard and some T Robinson off the bench Portland have size.

When looking at the 2012 draft, Leonard seems to have justified his number 11 spot and he is showing he is a top 10 worthy talent from that draft.  D Green, Crowder, Leonard, there are some players from that draft now getting minutes and breaking out.

Leonard would now be picked ahead of Rivers, Robinson and maybe MKG.  Leonard is 7-1 but a much better shooter than all of them.

You are making declarations based on minimum play.  The guy haven’t played consistently enough to give this analysis yet.  I’ll go and say that he’s shown promise and deserve minutes once Robin gets back, but don’t be too ridiculous now.

"Leonard is playing like Aldridge for Portland" so he’s playing like an All-Star PF and could be debated, the best PF in the NBA today?  That’s what you telling me?  The player on HIS team, Leonard is playing like?

There is absolutely no way Leonard is a top 10 player from his draft class, or would be top 10 in any draft class. The dude hasn’t scored more than 13 points in a game in two years. He has an interesting combination of shooting and athleticism for a guy his size, but taken everything into account he’s still a scrub. He’s still young, but he hasn’t shown any sign of being good at any point. As of now he’s a total bust at 11. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was out of the league after his rookie contract expires.

Leonard was a big project coming into the league . His offense seems to have realy developed, his defense still is a project, especially his timing as a shot blocker. His length and athletacism make him an above average rebounder and with his skill set I could see him developing into a poor mans Aldridge, more likely a Spencer Hawes type. He won’t however be out of the league soon, athletic 7’1" 3 point shooter/rebounder types don’t usually just fade into obscurity.

Myers was considered a good big man who could run the floor well for his size in the build up to the 2012 draft. A lot of us had considered him a top 10 prospect at least, I think I had him down within top 6 to 8. He eventually went 11th maybe a bit lower than a few of us thought and had a reasonable rookie year.

However his 2nd season was a disappointment and he found himself down the roster, however this year he has picked up a bit and is beiginning to look a decent NBA player.

Portland have a deep frontcourt with LMA being an All Star and Robin Lopez a solid starter plus the experienced Chris Kaman from the bench along with Robinson and Freeland so Leonard has to really battle for minutes.

This year he is shooting 47% from three. Nobody his size has ever come close to shooting that percentage. Not even Novak and Ryan Anderson. And those guys are shorter and don’t have Leonard’s hops. I’m guessing he has just gotten a bit hot and had a few extra shots fall. I don’t see how he can suddenly be a dead eye three point shooter. He wasn’t even known as any kind of shooter when he came into the league. He didn’t even take threes during his first two seasons and now he is jacking them up like he is Kyle Korver. Some how I doubt he can keep this up.

But he doesn’t have to do this good to be the steal of the draft. He could fall back a bit and still be a huge asset for any team.

Meyers Leonard has looked much better this season. But why? Sometimes a player just needs an opportunity. With Lopez hurt and Kaman being Kaman, Meyers Leonard has gotten to play longer minutes without looking over his shulder after every tiny mistake. A little bit of freedom can do wonders for a players dvelopment. I just hope he keeps getting better

Portland has been very strict with his development. His offensive skills have always been there but he has next to no defensive presence. I haven’t watched him play lately although I was very high on him out of Illinois. I never thought such a dominant athlete and shooter would be restricted minutes this far into his career but his defence has been terrible. He has yet to be a staple in Portland’s rotation and even now he is only filling in for Lopez.

Has anyone watched the game. Has his defence and rebounding consistency improved?

His rebounding has improved. He seems to understand positioning better and he’s obviously a big athlete, I haven’t looked at the stats, but I bet his rebound rate is looking pretty good. His defence is still shaky, seems ok at man to man, but his rotation and help side defence leaves a lot to be desired.
