How much hope is there for this kid?  And how much trade value does he have?  Part of me likes to think he’s just in the wrong situation. He’s young and athletic and very raw still. But after a few years he still doesn’t seem any better than when he got drafted. Maybe if he goes to a rebuilding team that can give him decent minutes on a consistent basis. Orlando. Lakers. Boston.

 Like most young ultra athletic bigs it just takes time and the right situation. Tyson Chandler was considered a bust at one point, Deandre Jordan was considered overpaid, and Javale McGee was considered and still is a knucklehead, but was able to get it together in Denver. If Leonoard can devote his time to protecting the rim and rebounding he still has a chance to be an all-star, but fit is key.  

Everyone just suggests every player going to the Cavs but he really would be in the right situation would only be asked to play D and rebound, I think a 1st round pick would suffice.

But let’s just go over players from Meyers own draft class that people are much higher on but haven’t proven much more: Terrence Ross, Jeremy Lamb, and Thomas Robinson. I would be more inclined to agree with you if there were character issues with Leonard but he comes from a milirary family and seems to have his head on his shoulders. I’m not saying he’s going to have a break out year anytime soon but I gave up on Robin Lopez quickly and he proved me wrong .

 Portland doesn’t really use their bench very much. All of their starters play between 31.7 mpg and 36.2 mpg. They don’t really have any lower minute starters, and being a 3rd string player on a roster like that just doesn’t lead to a lot of playing time.

Meyers has a soft touch face up, and NBA size and athletic ability for his position, but he’s never been the toughest player, and that and his inexperience may be what’s left him sitting behind Joel Freeland on the depth chart.

I can’t count the kid out, but I think he needs a change of scenery. I thought he had starter potential coming into the league, and I really haven’t seen him in anything but garbage time since he’s been in the league. His next opportunity could be pivotal, and make or break for him.

All I can say about Meyers is he’s got great size and athletic ability for a Center in the NBA. He isn’t a stick and he isn’t a giant tub of lard, so he’s got that going for him. I would like it if the Lakers acquired him as he’d be the only player on the roster who’s over 7 feet tall and wouldn’t look incredibly ridiculous guarding Marc or Pau Gasol.

thats a thought, who knows, he could end up being the lakers’ new chris mihm. solid role playing big man. averaged about 10 points with 6.5 boards and a shade over a block a game in 25 mpg. thats a realistic expectation from leonard in 2 years time i believe. wont be a bust and can carve out a 10 year career in the league by being just that.
