SteroidParticipantThe Denver Nuggets have had preliminary discussions with the Los Angeles Lakers on a Carmelo Anthony trade, league sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard on Tuesday.
More on the Lakers
For more news, notes and analysis of the Lakers, check out the Land O’ Lakers blog from the Kamenetzky Brothers. Blog
The Lakers’ package would be built around center Andrew Bynum. Denver has no interest in Ron Artest and isn’t particularly interested in Lamar Odom either, sources said. A straight-up deal of Bynum for Anthony works financially, but there could be other players involved since Denver would look to shed more salary if possible.
Sources described the talks as in their infancy, and a three-way deal between the Knicks, Nuggets and Wolves is very much alive.
Bynum is averaging 11.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in 27 games this season as he works his way back from injury. In five full seasons with Los Angeles, Bynum has averaged only 56 games per season due to injuries.
Anthony is coming off a 50-point, 11-rebound outing Monday, but the Nuggets lost to the Rockets.

kanyedabestParticipanti think this deal is going to happen…. bynum is vastly over-rated and has 2 bad kness, i mean if u can team up kobe w/ melo and pau ur looking at perhaps the best team of the decade, the depth and star power on tht roster wud b overwhelming

HitsterParticipantBynum may have more considered upside than say Derrick Favours who was the jewel in the Nets bid for Melo. The Lakers gave their first rounder away this year but may even go down the rental line and assume they can probably get to the Finals at least and thus resign Melo in the summer. That way they can give less away to the Nuggets. Denver get Bynum who only has another guaranteed year so they could start the rebuild either with or without him, Denver could have Nene and Bynum as their frontcourt which would be a fairly strong basis to go forward on.
If another team could be brought in and maybe given some sweetner to take K-Mart’s expiring deal thus saving Denver a load of luxury tax then I could see a deal being attractive to Denver.

plasticmanParticipantDenver won’t do a deal straight up for Bynum. A first round pick should also be part of the deal, as well as throwaways to clear cap space…Unless they are stupid of course. I would not even think about trading Melo to the Lakers. This is such a terrible idea for Denver. Your simply giving LA another dynasty for the next 10 years. Big name free agents will want to play there as Kobe and company begin to decline, as long as Melo is there…hell even if he isn’t there. Furthermore, to me Andrew Bynum is one big question mark (no pun intented). Can he be a dominant center when given a secure starting gig? Can he even stay healthy long enough to have a chance? Frankly, I would be very very hesitant to gut the team and rebuild around him. If it happens I see this trade being disasterous for Denver.

IndianaBasketballParticipantBynum is only 23 years old. There’s the injury thing, but he could be worth the risk. He only has two guaranteed years left on his deal. The third is a team option. IF he can’t stay healthy, they can decline that third year.

K.LOVE THE ALLSTARFavors does not have more upside then Bynum IMO. you forget that Bynum did put up close to 20 and 10 when Paul was hurt last season.
Is it possible that the Lakers are looking to trade Bynum because they know something that we don’t know in the future(D.Howard coming to L.A or Blake telling them he is gonna join them when his contract is up???????) hmmmmmmm very possible ..lol
But yeah if Bynum can stay healthy this is a very good deal for the Nuggets. Theres no one even close to being able to defend him when healthy and in his prime in the west

Ghost01ParticipantBynum being 23 is almost as shocking as Luol Deng being like 25 or 26 or whatever he is.

NYK2010ParticipantDwight Howard thats doubtful, they don’t have the cap room or young player or chips to get that done.
Griffin that could happen but he still has 2 plus years and even then the Clips could match by that time most of the Lakers will be old.
10 year dynasty really the Lakers look old right now. Obviously they’d be the best team in the league for a while but not more than a few years. Then again another team will be stupid enough to give them a legit backup Center or starting PG for Artest and they would win some more titles even. Not sure why Denver wouldn’t want Odom he’s signed to a cheaper contract and is rarely hurt compared to Bynum who is almost always hurt. Bigs are harder to find but they have Nene and if they pair him up with Odom and Ty Lawson thats a nice trio to build the team around.
Too many conflicting reports, ESPN also says the Lakers owner won’t trade Bynum which seems a lil crazy since they’d get an elite top player back. Also some say this is more rumors to get the price for Mello up for the Nuggets if so it will probably work.

4th dimensionThe Nets offer was much more sweeter deal than this lakers offer. The Nuggets would have gotten Devin Harris, Favors and 2 future 1st Picks.

BKKnicksfanParticipantLike I said before, Denver better make sure all the knees are in check for Bynum.
I personally wouldn’t do it ( not because he could go to NY, but because Bynum’s past) but it probably is the best deal they can get for him.
The bigger question/next move: What can you get for Nene and Billups?

NYK2010ParticipantIn a couple of years lets say Bynum is traded straight up for Mello. Mello will make more money with the extension they’ll be capped out at about 65 million with Kobe, Gasol and Mello.
If they don’t make the trade then Kobe, Gasol, Artest, Fisher, Walton, Blake and Fisher are at 67 million and thats not counting any mid leve exceptions, draft picks or other cap holds that count to get the roster to 12.
I just heard the Lakers turned down moving Bynum, too many rumors out there.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantEsteban Noel if u want to request me cool…now the Sixers recent success isn’t surprising, I always felt they had a top 8 team in the east…a lot of people jumped down my throat when I said they were better then Any team not named The Celtics, Heat, Magic, Bulls and Hawks…the Knicks are desperately trying to get help this year, they can very well finish 7th or 8th in the east if they can’t trade for Carmelo Anthony by the deadline…I know this is going to sound crazy but if the Sixers had a true superstar they’d easily be a top 3 team in the east going forward(Boston and Orlando are not built for more then 2 more dominate years…) New York is prime to get Melo or a collection of parts in free agency…Melo likely leads to Cp3 and thats very good on paper and regular season stats and highlight reels, you’ll need to get a great interior defend and lock down wing…Brewer and Big man X would be a nice start(cheap enough to stay the Cp3/Melo/Amare course)

OhCanada-ParticipantId rather have the Favors package but I doubt Anthony wants to go to the Nets. New York isnt offering enough and better hope that Anthony doesnt get traded, if I was the Lakers I would definitely offer Bynum, Brown, picks and other expendable assets, to RENT Carmelo Anthony. Im sure if Carmelo got a bit of the Lakers lifestyle, played next to Kobe and Gasol, and (they would win) won a Championship with the Lakers he would never want to leave. The media and Lakernation would name him Kobes predesessor, and even if he decided not to stay that would create an amazing lifelong storyline and rivalry between New York and Los Angeles.

K.LOVE THE ALLSTARI read that Denver wants to get younger and get under the cap and that the Bynum deal sounds better to them then the Knicks or Nets deal because of the Lakers trade exception which would be worth even more with overall salaries going down next year. They also want to get rid of Chris Anderson and the Lakers are able to take his contract on (probably because of the trade exception but i dont know for sure, i do know that some how they are able to take his contract which puts Denver) even further under the cap

kanyedabestParticipantlisten…. the bynum deal is the best denver will get, although i think the nets deal is better, melo dont want no part of it so for denver u take a shot with bynum and his bad knees. ITS MIND BOGGLING 2 me y the knicks wont give denver what they want! how can u not trade galinari when in return u would get a top 3 scorer and franchise player??? but i guess thts y they the knicks aka the most poorly run franchise in the nba over the last 5-7 yrs

K.LOVE THE ALLSTARDenver wants Gallo and Landry though. Thats you’re starting sg who plays very good defense, great rebounder, only a rookie and puts up 10ppg plus is a 39 percent three point shooter. Then you have Gallo who puts up 16 and 5 and is the same defender as Melo is not better. Thats 26ppg and 12 reb and two guys who are basically 40percent three point shooters

NarcParticipantThis isn’t going to happen. Denver is just trying to get the Knicks to up the ante a little bit. But no deal with include Gallo and Landry Fields, I can assure you Walsh wouldn’t to that. Guitar Jimmy on the other hand, we can’t be sure of. Denver wants more than Brewer, Chandler and a 1st rounder from Minnesota (which if I’m not mistaken would be this year). Honestly, if I’m Walsh I would play the waiting game. Denver at this stage, HAS to get rid of him for something in return, and I honestly don’t think that Phil Jackson would feel comfortable trading his best bench player and a young center for Melo, I just don’t see that happening, and I’m not just saying that as a Knicks fan.

K.LOVE THE ALLSTARThe Lakers aren’t including Odom. Denver already said they don’t want Odom or Artest anyway. The waiting game by Walsh was a great idea until the Lakers got into the mix

OhCanada-ParticipantIf Im the knicks I look past the whole Anthony and start to get realistic. Find a way to pickup Nene for a Galinari, Turiaf or Chandler, Turiaf combo then have Curry’s contract expire and sign Carmelo. Nene would be an absolute dream come true in Dantoni’s system. Imagine…
Felton
Fields
Anthony
Stoudemire
Nene
———
Douglas
Galinari/Chandler
Williams
Cheap Big
and a bunch of veterans to fill the roster

K.LOVE THE ALLSTARHow you expect that to happen? Denver wont even make that trade right now and it only includes Anthony. Why would they accept it while adding Nene?

BKKnicksfanParticipantDenver also doesn’t want Artest. I think this is gonna happen:
Bynum and 2 1st round picks for Melo.
Why? Your taking a risk on Bynum and Chris Broussard said on Mike and Mike that the LA front office aren’t that happy with him. Denver could look at this as high risk, high reward ( not really because Bynum’s last season I beleieve is a team opt) and could say "give me the 30th pick in 2 years’ drafts.
Then, I think you make these moves
Billups, Affalo, 1st rounder and Anderson for Josh Smith, Teague and Evans
Nene and Balkman for Harden, Aldrich and Peterson

HitsterParticipantDenver have waited and waited on Melo so any blow up this season will be limited, the Lakers gave their 2011 first rounder away a few weeks ago to save cap space. We all know that Jerry Buss’s son is a huge fan of Bynum’s so will not want him traded.
If Melo did go to the Lakers then NY would not have an obvious other Franchise level FA to sign this summer, they would probably add complimentary pieces and then ESPN starts bigging them up for the 2012 FA market!
