Carmelo scored 45 points in the preseason game. Like I’ve been saying (without bias) he’s the best PURE scorer in the NBA. He can score from anywhere (post or the outside) and he has the best mid-range game in the league. He may also lead the league in scoring.

P.S. You say D Hamp isn’t the greatest mind. Cool, no prob! Challenge him by making your predictions for the season. 1-8 playoff teams in both conferences, MVP, ROY, DPOY, Sixth man of the year, coach of the year, comeback player, top 10 scores, rebounds, etc. This will prove who has the most knowledge on the site. Much love to everyone.

Alright Carmelo as a PURE SCORER is pretty legit, but what about Kevin Durant? I think he has to be up there with Melo

    Best Pure Scorer…….No

There is a 5 time nba chamion by the name of kobe bryant who is the best pure scorer in the league. He has done more scoring in one game then peoples careers ( 81 Point Game). More 50 point games then many greats and is a team leader. he led a depleted laker team to the playoffs while averaging 30 something ppg .

Kobe doesn’t have a size or height advantage but his skills are better then anybody in the league, and one of the best of all time. Just because carmelo scored 45 in a preseason game not to mention, Doesn’t solidify himself as the best pure scorer in the game. Remember when he errupted in the 1st two games of conference and choked from then on. On my part i say kobe is the best pure scorer in the league followed by Dwayne wade, and then Carmelo

But when Melo’s jumper isn’t going in he isn’t nearly as deadly of a scorer of someone who can penetrate like Wade, LeBron and even Kobe.

I’ll go Kevin Durant or Kobe Bryant anyday for pure scorer. And like YOU’VE said, you probably never thought of that until Charles Barkley was saying that throughout the playoffs. Maybe you did, but I doubt it very seriously.

That would be fair except, the awards are not based on accuracy. If they were the list could very well read: MVP Kobe, DPOY ron artest, sixth man Lamar odom and coach of the year phil Jackson .

Carmelo is the most natural scorer in the NBA but it is also worth noting he is the biggest underachiever in the NBA.

I’m just curious how melo is a better “natural/pure” scorer then Kobe? Kobe does not just rely on athleticism as much as a Lebron or Wade. He has zero weakness in his offensive game. What makes Melo a better scorer?

im not ure about pure scorer but greg carmelo can score just as much in the paint if hes jumper isnt falling. i lebron cant drive to the hole at will then he pretty much stuck cuz his jumper isnt that reliable and his pot of game is suspect. luckly he doesnt have to worry bout that ince hes till young. and sup how is carmelo the biggest underachiever?..because he hasnt won a title?(only one team can win it per year..getting there doent count lebron ince no one plays for second place)..take a team to do that..because he isnt mvp?..there are better players.so how is he the biggest underachiever?..from day one he made denver better..from a nonplayoff team to western conference finals and talk of possibly getting to the finals(wont happen though cuz of my lakers)

kobe is old? He just turned 31 and he looks fresh as ever. Melo might have a better shooting stroke, but that is highly debateable. Kobe has a beautiful stroke as well and hits 3’s, free throws and all sorts of tough jumpers just as well melo.

Kobe being old doesn’t have anything to do with him being a natural scorer, especially since his age hasn’t effected his performance.

no he is an underachiever because with his scoring ability, skills and size he should be the best in the league, he is arguably not top 5.

Melo is not an underachiever. He gets the most out of his skills. He was never quite the athlete or ball handler that his draft mates Leborn and Wade were, but he does his work. Just because he is not a top 5 player does not mean he is not getting the most out of his abilities.

Kobe could lead the league in scoring to this day. So far in the preseason, his legs and skills look just as fresh as ever. His scoring dropped because they added talent around him. he played the least mpg since he was a teen last season. Kobe’s legs and hops are not quite where they were in his younger days, but he is far from going down hill. Just saying he can’t score 81 as proof to his demise is silly.

silly is you. Everyone is fresh in the preseason ( llprez I’m talking to you) Kobe in the preseason has been a quarter step slower, and also got blocked on a fastbreak layup.

P.S. As I said in my first post Kobe mvp!! Just not a more natural scorer than Carmelo anymore.

Kobe also said he took 45 straight days off before training camp for the first time in his career. So yeah, his legs are fresher then normal. And if you are gonna say that age is a reason he is no longer a better scorer then Melo, then you need to give some more examples then he had a lay up blocked by Anthiny Randolph whi is 6-10. How about his couple break away dunks or how he has gotten to the paint at will? Age is starting to factor in, but do you honestly think that Melo is now a better scorer then Kobe?

Did you all just forget Kobe scored 61 at madison square garden this past season? That’s proof enough..and basketballguru kobe only has 4 rings…what is more impressive 61 at the Garden during a regular season game or 45 in a preseason game against the Pacers..?

“Lolz”… Randolph did block Kobe’s layup on a fast break, but last season Kobe (6′ 6″) blocked Randolph’s (6′ 10”) DUNK attempt.

Kobe is the best scorer in the NBA… Period. He has no weaknesses offensively. You can’t say that about any other player in the league.

I won’t do the top ten… That’s too much writing lol.

    West
    1. Lakers – I think they’ll challenge the Bulls’ 72 game win record. We all know they’ll be a great offensive team… I think they could arguably be the best defensive team this season. With Artest’s defensive versatility, Kobe will be able to rome now more than ever.

    East
    1. Boston – Last season they won 62 games and went deep into the playoffs with KG missing majority of the season and all of the playoffs. Imagine what they’ll do with a healthy Garnett. Rondo, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, Perkins, Wallace, Davis, Daniels, House… This team is deep. Expect Rondo, Perkins and Davis to be MUCH improved.

    Scoring Champ
Kevin Durant – I think he’ll have a breakout season. His scoring averaged jumped from 20.3 to 25.3 from his rookie to sophomore season. I see no reason why it won’t jump another 5 points. He’ll average over 30 points per game and just edge Dwayne Wade.

    Rebounding Champ
Dwight Howard – He averaged 13.8 rebounds last season. I see him being even better this season.

    Assists Champ
Chris Paul – He’s the best passer/play maker in the NBA. He averaged 11 assists last season and I see him averaging around there again this season.

    Blocks Champ
Dwight Howard – He averaged 2.9 blocks last season. I see him being even better this season.

    Steals Champ
Chris Paul – He averaged 2.8 last season. He’s not a great on ball defender, but he plays the passing lanes better than any other player.

    FG % Champ
Dwight Howard – He’ll take the title from Shaquille O’Neal, who shot .609% last season.

    3-Point% Champ
Anthony Morrow – He led the NBA in 3-Point % last season. He shot .467%. He won’t shoot as high of a percentage this season because he’ll play more minutes and teams will focus on him, but he’ll still lead the NBA. I’m prediciting right now that he’ll win the 3-point contest during NBA All-Star Weekend.

    FT % Champ
Jose Calderon – He led the NBA in FT % last season. He shot .981%. He doesn’t miss lol.

    Coach of the Year
Phil Jackson – If the Lakers have the best record in the NBA and challenge the Bulls’ win record, he’ll get the award.

    Sixth Man Award
J.R. Smith – After seeing Smith versus the Lakers during the playoffs, I feel this is his award. He should average close to 20 points off the bench this season. He’ll have competition from Ben Gordon and as usual, Jason Terry.

    MIP
Greg Oden – He’ll average around 15 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks this season. He’ll literally be the most improved player in the NBA based on what we’ve seen from him. We haven’t seen the real Oden. He’s finally 100% healthy and confident both mentally and physically.

    ROY
Blake Griffin – If the Clippers sneak into the playoffs, he’ll definitely get the award. He’ll start and be a major contributor from day one.

    DPOY
Dwight Howard – He’ll be even better than he was last year. He has this award locked up for the forseeable future. LeBron and Wade will put up great block and steal numbers, but they don’t dominate the game defensively like Howard does.

    MVP
Dwight Howard – He’ll be named the DPOY, All NBA First Team and All NBA Defensive First Team because of leading the NBA in rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage. He averaged 20.7 points per game last season. I see that number increasing 3-5 points. He’s added muscle, worked on his offensive post moves and his free-throw shooting all summer. By making more free-throws, he’ll average more points because he gets fouled more than any player in the NBA. I really feel they’ll be able to run the offense through him consistently this season. I see no reason why he won’t be top ten, maybe even top five in scoring. He’ll have compeition from Kobe Bryant if the Lakers have the best record in the NBA/challenge the Bulls’ win record and LeBron James for obvious reasons.

    NBA Eastern Conference Finals
Boston vs Orlando – After getting past Cleveland for the second season in a row, Orlando travels to Boston in a rematch of last seasons Conference Semifinals. Boston has Rasheed Wallace (defends Howard really good) and the bigs to defend Howard, and win the series 4-2.

    NBA Western Conference Finals
Lakers vs Spurs – The two best teams in the West go head to head. The Spurs will fight, but the youth and depth of the Lakers front court is too much for the aging front court of the Spurs. The Lakers win 4-2.

    NBA Finals
Lakers vs Celtics – The two best teams in the NBA go head to head in a rematch of the 2008 NBA Finals… A matchup of the 2008 champs vs the 2009 champs. A big rivalry…These two teams dislike each other and it’ll go to seven games.

    2010 NBA Champion…
LAKERS – In the end, the Lakers win a tough, hard fought and intense series. It’ll be a GREAT series. The defense of Artest on Pierce, Kobe on Rondo (giving him the ability to lay off Rondo and rome) and Gasol’s un-intimidated play versus Garnett push the Lakers to victory.

    Finals MVP
Kobe Bryant – Due to not having a heavy load during the regular season, he’ll be extremely fresh during the playoffs and the NBA Finals. He’ll be dominate in the 4th quarters.

Melo is the best pure scorer in the league!!!!!! An no offense Igoudala 9, but I said it two years ago, before Charles Barkley said it. Also, someone said Durant is a better pure scorer than Melo…Nope, you all forget I live in Oklahoma. Durant can play, don’t get me wrong. He’s behind Melo in scoring. As for Kobe, he can’t score in the paint. He can’t back anyone down, either. And while Kobe uses his athleticism to dominate, Melo isn’t as fortunate and can score from anywhere.

D Hamp, Kobe can’t back people down or score in the paint? And he relies on his athletic advantage over Carmelo to score? Your throwing up some airballs right there. Kobe has a great post game and foot work. He is one of the best finishers in the league over taller defenders, double teams and through contact. Is he more athletic then Melo, yes. but he also is a better ball handler and has better foot work and a far superior array of moves and shots. Go watch that Denver Laker series from last year and tell me who is a better scorer and has more offensive abilities. Kobe does not just rely on blowing by and over guys due to his athletic gifts. He has the whole package offensively, how is Melo a better scorer again?

Illperez, I gave you a point, but you’re misunderstanding some of the points I’m making! Kobe doesn’t rely on athletics, but put it this way. If Melo had Kobe’s athleticism, he’d be that more dangerous. Melo will probably lead the league in scoring. That will be one of my predictions.
