Lotto StudParticipantMy homeboy had the nerve to ask me who would I take in the clutch, and I told him KD without any hesitation. KD is a mismatch problem for ALL players who guard him, he can either blow past you or shoot over you. If your smaller he will just take you to the rack and if you’re bigger he will just stay on the perimeter.
Who would you take and why?

delfamParticipantCarmelo, he can post you up, he’s stronger going to the hole, and he shoots a better percentage, KD is to streaky

mj23mj23besteverParticipantkd no question smaller guys he shoots over with ease and if a bigger guy tries he just blows by them to the rim

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantUhhhh….I’m sure Carmelo has done hit more late game shots in the clutch. Also, Carmelo has been in more pressure situations. He’s better in the clutch as of today.
Let’s be honest, Carmelo and Durant are not different game wise. KD scores more because he have defensive whiz Thabo in the lineup with him. Melo has to share with Billups, Smith and Nene. There closer then what people think.

TC_42ParticipantMelo right now for sure.
Have you ever watched the Thunder hold for a last second shot (whether its at the end of a quarter or a game)? They’re not very good at it. They usually can’t get the ball to KD, or when KD does have it, he loses the handle, charges, or takes a bad shot. That’s a part of his game he needs to work on. The only real clutch shot I remember him making is this one:

IndianaBasketballParticipantIF we’re talking about in the clutch, it’s Melo.
I don’t know if people realize it, but KD isn’t very good in the clutch. He’s getting better, but isn’t on the level of a Kobe, Wade, Melo, LeBron or Dirk.

Roy also isn’t very good off of the ball.

ChrischiParticipantI don’t know. As for who is the better player, it’s Melo. But in the clutch?
KD is better at shooting the contested three imo, while Melo’s mid-range is probably better. It’s very close but I think I would take KD.

He is clutch though. I’ll give him that.

Snubs15ParticipantI watched the Dallas Denver game 2 days ago and the announcer said Melo’s hit 13 game winners throughout his career. If your an NBA player and youve hit that many game winners you are considered clutch. As of right now id take Melo since he has more experience and is historically good at the end of games. But KD is the future lol.

jerb2011ParticipantBut Imma take Melo for the simple fact that KD settles for far too many bad/contested shots. Yea he is good at hitting them but with his lack of size, he can’t drive in on a Ron Artest of Lebron James like Melo can. That is the only reason why KD can be considered "streaky". Once he learns to drive in on those bigger defenders, then we will start proving why he can be in the Kobe/ Lebron/ Wade/ Melo conversation. That is also the reason why they got blown out in those two games. Last year I noticed Kevin drove in the paint much than now more unless Ron Artest, Lebron James, or Melo was guarding him because he is too small to knock them around which, in turn, led to him only putting up like 20 points while Melo and Lebron had like 30+ on him. For those reasons, I choose Melo.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantDurant is my favorite player…but this one is Melo and it’s not even close. Melo has hit a bunch of game winners with defenders all over him in the last 10 seconds of games over his career(the facial he gave LeBron in Cleveland last year is just 1 ex.) that jab step, pull-up mid range jumper is unstoppable. KD is way too streaky, and it’s not usually in the closing moments of the game. another thing is Melo’s presence of mind, he ALWAYS gets a shot off to at least give you a chance to win(that play in Dallas in 2 yrs ago where they tried to foul him, there was no call, and he nailed a 3 at the buzzer to win it), KD a lot of the time doesn’t…he’ll turn it over with shaky dribbling, or take a bad 3 when he doesn’t need to instead of getting to his spots and getting the shot he wants, which Melo does every time.
Melo is probably the 3rd most clutch player in the league behind Kobe & Dirk…Roy, Wade are also up there. Durant isn’t even top 10 yet.

Tyreke JohnsonParticipantI like Durant and his potential but to me I still think Melo is better then him, not only would I rather have Melo take the last shot, I would take Melo on my team right now, now if I was building a franchise I would obviously choose Durant over Melo but Durant is too young and has yet to consistently develop that clutch gene in which you can hit big shot after big shot, he has already made the first step, always wanting to take the last shot. You need to be that player that isn’t afraid to miss but you want the ball in your hands in the final seconds, I mean Kobe used to air ball game winners in his early career so it takes time but I like Durant’s chances at being a clutch player.

knicksfreakParticipantI’d take Paul Pierce over anybody in the league. His fadeaway 20 footer is unstoppable and undefendable. Or he can drive it to the hoop to finish or get fouled.

Im Your FatherParticipantI think I’ve talked about this before, but the one guy with a clutch reputation that I don’t want taking the last shot is Billups. He has completely bought into his "Mr. Big shot" title. He takes so many bad shots late in games, and rarely makes them.
