HotSnotParticipantSo we’re entering training camps and Melo’s UFA is about 9 months away. Writers, bloggers and anonymous posters all have their take on where Melo is going this season, so here’s mine based on common sense and the info we have available.
My bet is Melo plays out his contract and "tests" the FA waters next offseason and there’s nothing the Nuggets can do about it.
Todays NBA players are a pretty close knit group. Over the last 20 or so years the NBA as a whole has transformed/evolved and the term "its just business" has really taken on a life of its own. Players have become very business savy and now have teams of representatives and strategists looking to maximize the players earning power and happiness. Melo just watched some of his old draft class friends team up after almost 3 years of speculation. To say there was no back channel chatting, texts, emails or phone calls would be naive.
In regards to Melo’s current situation ask yourself this… Can you honestly see Melo signing an extension and forfeiting his right to complete freedom next July 1st just to make the Nuggets happy? Its just business… remember? What incentive is there for him to do that? The Nug’s can try and spin this however they want but no team will trade for Anthony without an extension and Melo won’t sign that extension with just "any" team. Bosh, Lebron and Wade just pulled this feat and although there was definitly some cloudy days as a result, the sky didn’t fall and life goes on. Melo might get some backlash for exercising his RIGHTS but that will pass and he will be happier for it later.
I know what your thinking… What about the Knicks? Even if Denver management crumbles under the strain of finally realizing that they have no power here and should take whatever they can get for him NOW (its not likely deals will get better later in the season), I don’t believe the Knicks give away signifigant assets for Melo when they can just sign him free and clear next offseason. Melo knows this too. If he is "Traded" to the Knicks he risks going to a pretty depleted roster which might not be that much better then the situation he left… especially when you consider the Knicks lack of quality picks then next 3 drafts.
Alright,… so what if Melo gets injured this season? Were talking a serious injury which might result microfracture or something. What then? Does Melo risk anything without a long term contract on the table… NO! NBA teams have shown a propensity to throw around contracts like they were backed by Monopoly money. Gilbert Arenas and Elton Brand are two of the most recent players who signed huge max extensions Immediately after sustaining a very serious injury. If Lebron got hurt last season and needed season ending surgery… do you think that would prevent a single team in the league from still offering him a max extension? Not a chance. All teams would have figured eating the first year as a "recovery writeoff" is just the price of doing business, but they’ll still get another 4-5 great seasons from LBJ on the contract he signs. Lets not forget that Melo’s game is hardly predicated on blinding athleticsm.
To sum it all up, Melo ain’t going no where. He won’t sign an extension and he Will become and UFA next offseason. Book it.

kurtu17ParticipantYeah the longer this drags out the more i dont see this trade happening…

Moon RiverParticipantDenver’s GM (in Toronto) just went through the process of losing their franchise player (Bosh) without any compensation. I don’t think he will allow that to happen again. Melo has stated that he has not made a trade demand. However, he also has had next to no contact with Denver this summer and has not signed the $65MM extension with Denver that is currently on the table. Denver has to trade Melo and the longer they wait (trade deadline?) the less leverage the have. Another wrinkle is the looming CBA situation next summer. Nobody knows how that will impact things next summer. But what we do know, is that as it stands right now, a lockout is likely.

dazeoneParticipantMello is not getting traded until the deadline now. Teams are starting training camp. If it was going to get done it would have been before the training camps began.

kurtu17ParticipantThats very true..but i just read an article were utah said that are not trading kirelinko to Denver in that 4 team trade and we all know that Utah is a classy organization that doesnt low ball people like that…even though Ak47 is a small part of this trade his contract is very value in makin this trade work…so if this trade thing is goin down it wont be that one that was on the table ..

HotSnotParticipantDenver pulled the trigger on the Billups and A.I. trade just a few games into a season… timing isn’t really the issue.

ronniemiller1kParticipantsupposively, the trade has been pulled off the table by the nets…the trade "as is"… http://twitter.com/Al_Iannazzone

sheltwon3ParticipantThe only way Melo gets traded is to New York on Chicago.

i dont know if this would work but it would bring some youth and talent to the nuggets and maybe make melo want to stay. the trade works out great for the hawks but it all depends on whether or not the 76ers would be will to lose turner in order to get out of brands contract

JNixonParticipantHe’s going to get traded, it’s just a matter of when he gets traded. There is too much confusion and both parties want to make a trade, so it will happen.

TyroberParticipantCarmelo Anthony is definitely going to get traded. Him not signing that extension is a clear sign that he isnt going to resign next summer either. He might not be traded before the season starts but he is definitely going to get traded. There is absolutely no way that the Nuggets let Melo pull a Lebron or Bosh and leave the franchise with nothing. They might end up getting a worse deal or they could end up getting a better deal by waiting but one thing is for sure. He will 100% be traded to another team by the deadline

HotSnotParticipantJNixon-Iggy9 and Tyrober … The point I made above is if Melo is unwilling to sign an extension and covets his stab at UFA, why on earth would any team trade assets for him knowing he’s likely to leave at the end of the season? No team will trade for Melo without an extension worked out. Under those circumstances… How does he get traded?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/28/2010 - 2:16pm #407221

JNixonParticipantI don’t really know, but I’m willing to bet he gets traded. I was just answering the question you presented as the title of this trade.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/28/2010 - 2:31pm #407228

TyroberParticipantMelo is willing to sign an extension and those will be the teams he will be traded too. If all Denver gets is Loul Deng, James Johnson, Taj Gibson, and some picks then thats just all they get. Same with NewYork. If all they can get is Curry, Wilson Chandler and some future picks then thats it. Thats a whole lot better than nothing. Melo will sign an extension with either Chicago or NewYork and he WILL be traded but the Nuggets arent going to get the package they want

sheltwon3Participanti got minus points for saying the truth. The two teams that Melo wants to go to are Chi town and New York. Right it is either he gets traded there or he will be a free agent. Eventually Denver will have to give in. Chi town could get him if Denver does it to spite New York.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/28/2010 - 3:49pm #407267

boxn1ParticipantHe will be traded, Denver will be proactive,he is turning down money (65 million) and going into a possible lock out year without a contract. This is a hell of a risk by melo buisness wise, and Denver knows this. He doesn’t have a no trade clause so if a team wants to rent him for a few months to make a run at a title thats on them. But he played this all wrong and he has painted himself in a corner.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantSomebody would be stupid (or Amare Statamire) to think the Knicks would be a good place to play…No PG..No Sg…No C..best players on NY are Amare(who will be hurt by the middle of the season) and a bunch of Tweeners like Gallo,Chandler and Randolph who all play the same position as Melo…unless Stat plays the 5 and Melo plays the 4…And then they get Paul somehow some way…This is how I see it panning out…
Amare goes down…The Knicks blow another season and miss the playoffs… The Rockets swap picks getting the Knicks Lottery pick and draft another great player while the Knicks wait for Melo to reject them for a Sign and Trade that helps Denver out much better a Curry and Chandler deal…
Right now the Sixers are offering Evan Turner,Thad Young ,Jason Kapono and Future Draft Picks to Denver and some think Carmelo and Denver would hard pressed to find a better trade partner and ideal win win situiation…
Melo gets a Team with a Young PG who has Gary Payton and Chauncey Billups potential..An elite level wing defender and all around Sg/Sf…A veteran 20/10 guy with something to prove…A young Front court with lots of scoring potential and attitude…An instant offense combo guard in the Mold of Leondro Barbosa…Veteran European Sf with range and defensive toughness…
They would be one defensive stopper at C and a great shooter at SG off the bench away from Really having all the pieces for a few runs at a NBA Title…Ironicly Dalembert would a good piece to have on this Team…Also JR Smith is a Guy I would maybe ask for If I was Philly…If Not guy like Nick Young or Brandon Rush would be on my list of potential players who could help score off the bench…
That’s bettter than being stuck with an oft injured Amare and the prayer you get Chris Paul in New York…Same goes for New Jersey with no point your hoping Paul gets traded or waits it out and signs with the Nets…instead of Amare you have Lopez who could get hurt at any point…Centers don’t stay healthy in the NBA unless they’re Sam Dalembert LOL….

xavier328ParticipantTrade Deadline… i got a feeling the Magics is going to jump in because they see everone is getting stronger and havent made any to improvements besides Duhon lol..but will they have enough to get a deal done?
This year add Melo next year add CP3 OMG
0 - Posted on: Tue, 09/28/2010 - 6:49pm #407326

TheWizardParticipantI definitely see Melo getting traded this year, but I really do not think that he will end up witht the Orlando Magic. Melo is definitely looking for a big-market team to make a lot of money, so I most likely see him go to NYK with Felton and Amare, or Nj with Brook and Harris.

nyk92ParticipantMelo will get traded eventually unless he signs that extension before the trade deadline. The nuggets arent going to take a chance and loose out on Melo for nothing. Even if they dont like the deals they are offered now, they will have no choice but to trade him once the trade deadline comes around. does anyone think melo will deffinately end up with new york or is it once again too hyped up by the fans and media?
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/29/2010 - 4:12am #407377
nyk92Participanton another note: with melo saying the money will be there, does that mean theres a bigger chance at NY?
with the amount of money in endorsments from NY being so high, money might not be a problem for Melo because he might know that he is coming to NY no matter what
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/29/2010 - 5:37am #407385
Jlv2010Instead, the Nuggets will find some form of cohesion, make the playoffs, and beat the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Unfortunately, the Heat will sweep them in the Finals. As a result, Carmelo signs with Heat in the summer. This will happen, I have seen it in a vision.
0 - Posted on: Wed, 09/29/2010 - 5:59am #407387

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe whole endorsement crap playing in New York is overrated. If you play for a big market, you play for a big market. Andre Iguadola gets about as many endorsements opps as any play in the league not named LeBron, Kobe, Dwight, or Wade, and Iggy isn’t even neccessarily a star he just has an extremely fun game to watch and he plays in Philly.
Case being Melo will be able to get just as many endorsements playings for Philly as he would in New York and unless Mike D’Antoni get’s a defensive player of the year type player none of his teams will ever win a championship because he don’t know how to coach defense. Why do you think Lebron didn’t want to sign there. I like D’Antoni he is my favorite basketball coach of all time don’t get me wrong his style of play is fascinating. But he never even got that Phoenix teams to the Chip and them Suns teams were fully loaded. He will never have a team in New York as good as he had in Phoenix.

sheltwon3ParticipantScarecrow what is up with you calling me a New York Homer. You must forget what i said about New York or Chi town. Also we will see how false your predictions are when the season starts. Also the Phoenix teams ran into the messed up situation with injuries and suspensions because they did play some D. I remember a game they lost at home and they held spurs I think to about 80 to 85 points but they lost at the end because they were missing their bigs. Mike D’ Antoni’s teams play defense but it is more opportunistic than straight lockdown.

The Scare Crow ReturnsParticipantwhich isn’t impossible given his tradck record…then what happens to all the New York super team theories???
I don’t believe in the team in New York…NJ and Philly are both better teams and places for Melo to be traded to …
Besides the whole "He has a list of teams he wants to play for" arguement what else does the New York faithful have to say Melo and the Knicks is a done deal…
