Here’s some to think about. Lets say the Cavs keep the 1st and 4th picks. If they take Irving at 1, there’s a great chance Williams and Kanter are gone at 2 and 3. The next best player left is Knight, which wont be a good choice since they have Irving. By taking Irving, they dont get a chance to get one of the top two bigs in the draft. But if they take Kanter at 1(which is clearly risky) the worst you can do at 4 is draft Knight (which is great)! The same goes for if they pick Williams first. Irving maybe the favorable number 1 pick, but there’s something to consider, What do you all think?

Good plan. Although that may not be necessary because Minnesota and Utah might very well select to Cleveland’s favor. If Cleveland does take Irving #1, then Minnesota could take one of two players whom they like at #2. Derrick Williams or Enes Kanter. Let’s say they take Williams. Utah actually loves Knight (Especially Utah’s GM Kevin O’Conner) so I’d say it’s very possibly that Kanter is still available at 4 if the Cavs take Irving #1.

Nevertheless, Stratgizing is still neceassary because Cleveland is still rumored to try to trade up the 4th pick to get the #2 pick from Minnesota. That way they can have the best of both worlds and select Irving and Williams.

Cavs is rumored to really like Irving so it’s likely that they will select him #1. Also to support this they have been willing to deal Baron Davis and Ramon Sessions. Clearly in order to create room for Irving.

I don’t think any team should pass on Irving and Williams with a top 2 pick.  I think that Irving and Williams are a tier above the rest of the prospects, and drafting Kanter and Knight would give the Cavs less talent.  I think Knight is a big step down as a prospect from Irving (Irving was better in literally every facet of the game his freshman year), and I don’t think that Valanciunas or Vesely would be a big step down from Kanter.  Valanciunas may be a less risky pick than Kanter, actually.

From what I’ve seen, Valanciunas has a great upside but is not physically ready for the NBA and has a raw skill set. Kanter looks very promising and i think he could play solid minutes as a rookie

    Got that on my mock

    • Derrick Williams
    • Enes Kanter
    • Kyrie Irving
    • Brandon Knight

    That’s better than

    • Kyrie Irving
    • Enes Kanter
    • Derrick Williams
    • Valanciunas/Vesely/Leonard

    1. Irving – best PG, to hard to pass up, esp. since it fills a major need for the Cavs.

    2. Williams – freak athlete, he’s going to be a matchup nightmare. Hopefully Minny trades Beasley to make room for Williams to develop.

    3. Knight – Harris is so inconsistant, Knight would be an upgrade.

    4. Kanter – if Cavs cant trade up to 2, they should take the top Center prospect, giving them 2 cornerstone positions filled.

And yes, I gave myself another thumbs up because it’s a good post.

it all comes down to whether or not the Jazz wants Kanter or Knight

But if  Williams and Kanter are gone by 4, (that is a big if, because I think the Jazz will take Knight) Valanciunas will still be there at 4, and some people are telling me that they might be taking Vakanciunas pver Kanter at 4.

we don’t know Cavs board.  IF they have Irving as top person on their board they have to take him.

they are much better off taking their #1 at 1 and their #5 at 4 then taking their #2 (or 3) at 1 just so they can get their #4 with their 4 pick.  the NBA is a league of stars and the goal of high picks is to get stars so just draft who you think is most likely to become a star.

Val really changes the entire draft. If the Cavs really like him enough for #4, there is simply no reason for them to not go Irving at #1.  He could be great, and Cleveland can afford to wait a year or two for him and grab a Sullinger or Barnes in next year’s draft, since Irving alone won’t take them out of the top 6 likely (see also, Wizards and Wall).  That’s a serious stockpile of talent and Scott is a very good coach.  I like their future, especially if they keep Varajeo, who’s a beast on D and makes any team better, even as, especially as, the first big off the bench.
