What are your thoughts on an extreme specialist like Max Hooper finding his way on an NBA roster next season?

Literally every shot from the floor he’s taken this season has been a 3 pointer, and he’s hitting 445% of them on 7.4 attempts per game, as well as .955% of his free throws. I’ve never seen a player have this kind of "sole purpose" on a basketball court, but with the way the NBA game is being played now, I wonder if Hooper can land a cup of coffee in the NBA next season ( most likely as a free agent ) but he could have some appeal past 50.

At 6’6” he has pretty solid size for a shooting guard, although his defense and athleticism are not nearly at an NBA level…his appeal as a specialist could be enough for a team to take a chance. He’s played 2 ranked teams this season (MSU and Virginia) and was a combined 6-15 from long range while averaging 9 points and 2 rebounds.

We’ve seen a college role player with some height and shooting abilit, in Duje Dukan, show up in Sacramento, and since shooting and spacing is such a premium these days, I wonder if a guy like Hooper could have some appeal.

    Thoughts?

If Joe Harris can be drafted and stick for a while why not Hooper? Seems legit. Will depend on summer league and workouts, obviously.

No way this kid could even sniff the d-league. I am a St. John’s season ticket holder, and got to see this kid play for a full season. He is not an NBA player. Was completely overmatched night in and night out in the Big East. He is extremely weak, slow, couldn’t create his own shot at all, and was just chucking up threes and not even hitting them at a high clip. I don’t mean to bash him because he’s actually a very good kid, but I was just taken back when I saw the title of this thread. I’ll admit I haven’t been closely following him since he transferred, but if he somehow made the NBA I would be more shocked than the Knicks winning the NBA championship this year.

A lot of players can hit threes at a high rate in college.  It’s a matter of being able to do it against NBA caliber players.

Can anybody explain how Duje Dukan made the Kings roster? I mean, this guy barely even played his senior year in college, but gets a roster spot. I say about 95% of the D-leaguers are better than him honestly. I have a feeling he got in with some sort of connection with the fron office, because no one who averages 4 points and 2 rebound in your SENIOR season of college ball should even sniff an NBA court.

I know his dad played international ball and is a scout for the Bulls. I don’t know what it is but I agree some sort of connections got him that spot

After watching the MSU game I gotta wonder if Bryn Forbes might be able to make a role for himself in the NBA as a three point specialist off the bench. Guy is lights out from deep! He’s consistently shot over 40% from 3 and 80% from the free throw line over his previous three years but this year he’s hitting 3.2 threes a game at a rate of 50%

11 of 16 from three point range tonight against Rutgers!
