The Clips are pursuing Odom and the Mavs want to unload him, but don’t want to take back any salary.  The Clips can’t take Odom without giving back a semi-equivalent salary (Mo Williams at $8.5M).  The idea is to send Odom to the Clips and send Mo Williams to a team that can absorb him with a trade exception.  The most likely scenario is Utah.  The Lakers are also a possibility because they also have a trade exception and are interested in Mo.

This would actually be a nice pickup for the Jazz, who actually drafted Mo originally.  I’m guessing if it does happen it will be after free agency begins.  Mo as of yet is undecided if he is going to opt in for the last year of his contract at $8.5M or if he’s going to opt out to become a UFA.

if the only thing holding up this deal is a guarantee from Mo Will that he will opt in for next season for 8.5 mill, i think we can book it as done. dont see how williams pass up on that kind of money unless he hates it in utah so much that he will say that he’ll become a free agent if he’s dealt there. dont see any reasons why he would do that though.
