SnowtaParticipantI’ve been saying this all year that the Wolves should try to grab MarShon. After a promising rookie year he lost a lot of playing time to Joe Johnson. He’s still got a lot of work to do and his shot has to get better, but I would like to see what he could do paired up with Rubio. The article link on this site says that the Wolves could possibly be sending Barea or Ridnour to Brooklyn for this kid and I couldn’t think of a better scenario than that. Get rid of Barea and pick up a young SG that can score (which this team desperately needs). Not only would this fill an immediate need, but it would give the Wolves some more flexibility going into the draft. A question for the Nets fans out there, how’s MarShon’s D? I know he’s got super long arms and seems decently quick, but I haven’t seen enough full games of him to really be able to tell.

WITNESS2014ParticipantI think they should get him, but try to keep Barea.

SnowtaParticipantI’m not a Barea fan. I understand that he can be good with the right team in the right situation, but the Wolves are not that team. He doesn’t fit in at all. They played him with Rubio all the time last year and Barea would take the ball up and not even let Rubio touch it. He had a good run with the Mavs, got overpaid, and now thinks he’s a star that tries to play hero ball. I’d love to see him go.

TMoney617ParticipantThe Nets would be dumb to do that. They could probably find a better point guard in free agency. Also, Joe Johnson is getting up there in age and Brooks has potential. The problem is that he needs more playing time to be effective. But to gain that playing time he needs to improve that defense and decision making, which are his main weaknesses. I can see Brooks having a similar career to Jamal Crawford’s where he comes off the bench to provide instant offense.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantThis would actually be a great move for BK. One of their main problems is not having any good ball distributors, and ridnour is a solid one…

sammybuckeye13ParticipantIt’s not the most unfair deal, Wolves get their athletic pure shoot off-guard, nets get someone who can give them 23-25 minutes off the bench and help them win right away, but if I’m the Nets, I go after the Wolves pick.
I think Brooks would be a lottery lock in this year’s draft, and the Wolves are in win now mode as well. Do the Wolves turn down Brooks, Teletovic and the #22 pick for #9? The Wolves would get their athletic young SG, front court depth and nab a useful contributor like Plumlee, Franklin or Hardaway Jr. Nets can take an nba-ready player with long-term potential like Zeller.

SiggyParticipantI don’t see how he’d fit in MIN. Yes, they need a SG, but they run the Princeton which is predicated on ball/player movement. Marshon is a ball stopper who’s offensive game is based on creating tough shots.
They’d be better off drafting a SG. They could get a better one at 9 or a comparable one at 26.And Marshon is a horrible defender.

SnowtaParticipantDo you see KCP fitting a lot better in their system? I like McCollum, but the small backcourt scares me.
0- Posted on: Mon, 06/24/2013 - 4:32pm #804892
SiggyParticipantI’d say so since he does have better catch and shoot potential as well as better potential to be an off-screen shooter.
Marshon doesn’t even catch and shoot well. He catches the ball and his first instinct is to hold it or attempt a move. Not a huge fan of McCollum. Reminds me of Randy Foye. Maybe T’Wolves have a similar memory of the last time they took a 6’3 “combo” guard. Backcourt size shouldn’t be an issue with the T’Wolves though. Rubio has the size to guard 2’s.

Mr. 19134ParticipantAgree with everything except while Mcollum does compare very favorable to Foye in both size, style and skill it should be noted that there’s a major difference in that McCollum is a much better pure shooter both off the dribble and catch and shoot.
McCollums shooting ability would make him a great fit next to Rubio as he can really light it up only Karasev is in McCollums class as a shooter in this draft imo B Mac is a step below them 2.

SiggyParticipantWhat is this based off of? A 12 (well 11, since he hardly played in the 12th) game sample this season, torching the nets vs the likes of Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and Bryant?
The larger sample size doesn’t say that he’s the best shooter in this draft.0 - Posted on: Mon, 06/24/2013 - 5:46pm #805000

cryan03ParticipantIf I was Brooklyn I would definitely try and trade Brooks for Barea/Ridnour and Pick #26 in this draft. Gives Brooklyn a veteran backup PG who could play next to DWill at times since Watson is out and with pick 26 I think they can pick up a very solid piece to the puzzle and add to there depth.
Pick 22-Tim Hardaway JR (can replace Brooks)
Pick 26-can go with either Mike Muscala (can back-up Lopez and even play next to him at times), Jeff Withey (be a defensive back-up to come in and give Lopez a rest), CJ Leslie (an explosive combo forward who can learn the Gerald Wallace role)I think it would be a good trade for both teams

hylandptParticipantHow much is Brooks better than Barea, Budinger and Shved?
Minnesota’s a deep team who doesn’t need a C level SG like Brooks.Brooks can score and has a mid range game, but his defense is crap.
T’Wolves need a SG like Tony Allen to play the back court with Rubio but also have a good who can stretch the floor.
Brooks shoots 30% from 3pt…Jose Juan Barea does better than that plus he rebounds, passes and defends better than Brooks.
Barea is the perfect guard to have off the bench because he averages 18 ppg at a 36 minute rate, can pass the ball with his penatration and is a very quick guard where Rubio and Ridnour aren’t speed-style PG’s. The Rubio/Barea/Ridnour PG rotation is fine the way it is.
Minnesota can draft a SG at 9, there will be one. Whether its KCP or CJ or even a SF like Shabazz because Minnesota are loaded with ball handlers like Rubio, Ridnour, Barea and Shved.
Wolves are playoff team if Love and Rubio stays healthy, they resign Pekovic and Kirilenko.

MopgrassParticipantMinnesota had the worst 3PT% in the NBA last year. Kevin Love will be better, but if they grab Marshon Brooks, they won’t have any help on 3’s. If the get him, they’d, at the least, have to draft another guard who can bomb outside.

jhbm24ParticipantWhy is everyone hating on his D? It’s like if you’re not a great defender your automatically. Weak defender. Brooks defense is solid and his length helps him a lot with that. Forget about barea and get rid of that 4 mill a year and pick up a scorer who can be at least a role player who can score in the second unit. I rather have Marshon Brooks trynna score than jj barea…..

aztwulfParticipantI may be mistaken, but I think I have it right. If Minny ships Barea to Br., for Brooks, then there has to be something additional coming from Brooklyn as the salary in has to equal the salary out. Brooklyn is over the cap, and Minny is hard up against the cap, so Brooklyn can’t eat Barea’s higher salary.
If this is wrong, someone please educate me.

SiggyParticipantAssuming the player/team options get exercised (which aren’t a given), yes, they are up against the cap and can’t absorb anymore salary. The Nets would have to include something else. Teletovic’s salary would work in a deal for either Barea or Ridnour.

SiggyParticipantWhy is acknowledging that someone sucks at something considered hating?
Brooks’ defense sucks. He’s not quick laterally and has very poor awareness.http://www.netsdaily.com/2012/11/11/3630534/marshon-brooks-defense-subject-of-brooklyn-nets-jokes

“Right here [where] Marshon is? This is what we don’t want to do.” In the background, his teammates snicker and laugh. Brooks defense is bad.
