Marquis Teague = Jay Williams ish just a tad bit smaller IMO has the build to bulk up to a 195 like Williams.

I’d Like to say he’s better than his big bro he’s a tad bit faster he has a higher vertical a better shooter on a good day. although jeff has a more defensive play and a higher basketball IQ.

I live in Indy; I’ve been watching this kid play the last 2 years and I cant come up with a defenitive one. I see a mix of a couple guys, but i’d say he most closely resembles Rodney Stuckey. He has a similar, straight-line scorer’s game at the point.
I’m not very high on Teague at all. He is absolutely not as good as Jeff was. Hes ranked higher but Jeff only went a little under the radar because he didn’t explode until the summer before his senior year. Williams is a good comparison physically but his game is not on that level.
His ranking has baffled me but i’m guessing it’s all about potential, as well as the fact that he plays much better in the AAU season, and obviously has good genes. Although hes projected high right now, it would surprise me if his stock remains in the top 10 because his game is still very raw.
Most of what he does that makes him special points to him being a better 2 guard. He does not have great command of his team and doesn’t have very fluid handles. He primarily beats people with simple blow by’s using his strength and quickness. He will need to learn to be alot more dynamic with the ball if he is to succeed at Kentucky. Hes nothing special as a passer and was often completely shut down when teams went to zones on him. He really racked up the turnovers at times and not in the good, aggressive, Steve Nash way. He would often look lost trying to be a distributor (7 turnovers in the first half one game) and was outplayed regularly by the other top talent in the city. I dont think he has the natural leadership qualities to be a starting NBA point guard. Even as the All American leader of his team, he was often the one being calmed down by others; constantly getting in chippy arguments with opponents and taking away from his team; his attitude at times was on a level you just dont see from top tier point guards in the league today.
He is at his best as a one on one scorer. He is not yet a great shooter but he should only keep improving. He has solid form and great lift. He can pretty much get his pull up whenever he wants, and obviously is a great athlete. When he has his jumper going, it becomes a case of picking your poison, and he can at times go on big runs single-handedly. I’ll be watching him very closely next year because of Calipari’s history at that position. Theres no better coach to help him put it all together.
His stock could remain pretty high because people are only expecting him to fall back and run the show this coming year, but I expect him to need a considerable adjustment period in that big of a limelight. He did show great improvement from his junior to senior seasons and playing for Calipari he will only continue to do so.

Man! i thought I was the only one who thought Jeff was better than Marquis even when they were in highschool.
Marquis is bigger yes, but after that I don’t see what he does better than Jeff.
I think Jeff is the better scorer, ball handler, quicker and more explosive(Watch his youtube highlights if you don’t think so)
I’m not going to say much, I’m just going to compare his Freshman year to Jeff’s.

  I haven’t really seen Marquis play much, so I can’t give my opinion, but I’ve always wondered what makes Marquis so much better than Jeff.

Marquis is bigger yes, but after that I don’t see what he does better than Jeff.

We forget Jeff was in the ’07 class, one of the best of all time. He was ranked behind guys like Derrick Rose, Nick Calathes, Johnny Flynn, and OJ Mayo depending on what position the publication listed him at.

Last time I checked I thought we took playing styles, measurements, character etc. into account for comparisons……..If you say he can’t be a Jay Will you might as well scratch comparisons period. Of course Teague is not going to put the #s up Williams did, I expect Teague not to have outrageous scoring numbers due to his supporting cast, should become a more complete guard.

Exactly. So whats wrong with the Jeff Teague comparison?
As far as another comparison, i’d probably say a bigger Brandon Jennings. I see the Jay Williams, but I think its a couple notch’s to high.

Exactly. So whats wrong with the Jeff Teague comparison?

The same can be said about Wagner not to get off topic but he could have been great I drew a Willie Warren to the likes of Juanny…..Is that not fair either because we don’t know how he could have panned out?

Marquis Teague is more Bayless then Jay Williams, I agree with more people who agree to that. Comparing him to Jeff is a little tough because he isn’t a passer at all, I think Marquis has some PG ability

Teague does not scream Bayless at all. Although Bayless is a scorer as well he heavily relies on his J which Teague does not. Marquis is that break you down off the dribble type of PG which Bayless is not nor does.
