6 TO’s in the first half but played better 2nd half…..whats you guys thoughts on him?

Me personally, I think he WAS the better player between him and his brother in highschool, but once Jeff got to Wake Forest his game went to a WHOLLLLLEEEE Nother level. Marquis really struggled and yes it’s early in the year, I just dont see him dominating like that, I could be wrong we shall see.

I think Marquis will be good, very good, but I think Jeff will remain the superior of the 2.

    Thoughts?

Far too early for me to speak one way or another, but so far my predictions were somewhat on point.

Teague doesn’t seem ready to handle full facilitating duties for a team with as many scorers as UK. He can however make plays in looking for his shot, as well as dishing it when he’s in the lane and his shot isn’t there. UK should be fine offensively though, as they have guys who can create for themselves.

Teague is a great athlete and scorer, but not elite in either area, which hurts him as prospect (due to his shortcomings as a floor general).

I’m definitely higher on Kabongo as a prospect. He has a long way to go in a few areas (strength, range, playing under control), but I feel like his mentality and tools will allow him to improve on these points as the year progresses…

OOOO yea kabongo KILLED it today, he def needs to bulk up about 20 pounds but if he does watch out seriously.

Teague already has the physical tools, but I agree he;s more of a scoring point and has to learn to jus be a faciliatator but in due time we will see.

Teague played out of control but coach Cal will get in his ear and he’ll come around as the year goes on. Totally agree with Kabongo! He plays the true PG as well as any other freshman in the country.

Teague has a long ways to go, but his quickness and slashing skills are at a very high level. He isn’t a pure PG and he has an underdeveloped understanding of playing at more than 1 speed, but he is a good scoring point. I’d like to see him improve in half-court, and I’d like to see him pick his spots better though. He’s mostly the same prospect as his brother I think, just bulkier.

I dont think he’s the same prospect as his brother, as Jeff literally dominated and was probably the best player in the country the first half of the 08-09 season, Jeff is a better slasher, more explosive and a WAY better shooter, Marquis also doesn’t have the same role as Jeff, but the times he tried to get aggresive and score it just wasn’t there, but I still think its early, just my opinion as of now.

Teague looked like a freshman in the first half but in the second half he calmed down and looked much better. The thing about UK pg is they always get better as the season goes on. I remember people saying Wall was overrated early while he turned it over all the time, same with Knight early and Evans early. Rose also wasn’t as good till later. I’m not sure Texas has played any team as good as Kansas though so far this year. I’m also thinking ya’ll are comparing him to Jeff as a soph not Jeff as a freshman

There is a HUGE difference between the type of prospect a player is, and what type of player a guy currently is. There is little difference at all between the 2 from a projection standpoint, other than Marquis Teague being more muscular. Jeff Teague hasn’t proven to be a "WAY" better shooter than anybody from a prospect standpoint, and in the 2nd half Teague definitely was able to get to the rim and score. He projects have little trouble slashing, even right now he shows little struggle beating his man off the dribble. He was turnover prone in the 1st half, and he probably will continue to struggle with TO’s, but I dont see much of a difference between the 2 from a projection standpoint. Especially when Jeff Teague was a Fr.

^^^ i agree and disagree…. while marquis teague is definately the better prospect than jeff was at the time, that doesnt mean he is or was better. it really has everything to do with the way these kids are recruited… saying that… jeff teague will be a good point guard in the NBA… marquis teague, tonight against kansas, made some spectacular plays against a veteran kansas defense. a few ridiculous and 1’s and some great setups to doron lamb and anthony davis… i feel like both will be good pg’s in their years to come… but its FAR too early to judge jeff, let alone marquis..

teague is good but kentucky should have gotten Tony Wroten jr as their point guard..i like him a lot because of his passing skills, athleticism and his size ( 6`5)…

    @JNixon-Iggy9

I agree with everything you said… Marquis is more physically advanced at this point and has more hype, but there’s really not much difference separating the two.

We NEED to be talking about Anthony Davis though… That kid’s nickname should be Stretch Armstrong. He’s exploding with potential.

Watched Marquis his last 3 years of high school. There is some notable difference in the two.

Jeff is clearly a more explosive leaper and has quicker feet and handles, without a doubt. I think Jeff is better with the ball, and Marquis off it as a scorer. In college even, Jeff was much more comfortable and efficient shooting off the dribble than spotting up. Marquis is pretty good out of the triple threat, because even though he’s not yet a great shooter, he gets great lift aon his J and when he can hit a jab and pull up it’s nearly unguardable.

His handle is not as dynamic as Jeff. He’s more about raw speed and power, which is why he’s more dangerous crossing people in the open court than when the game slows down. Jeff can hit you with multiple moves in an instant.

I’ve compared Marquis to Rodney Stuckey. A raw, athletic, physical slasher at the point who will struggle to efficiently run a high level team.

I’ve never been that high on him, his attitude has always worried me. I wouldn’t want a pg with such a short fuse and questionable composure and IQ as my franchise pg. Definitely some potential there though.

@IndianaBasketball- I agree with this entirely, it’s like everything within 8 feet of the rim is contested and altered by him it’s riddiculous.

Not a pure point at all.  With all the scorers on Kentucky his mentality should be to try to break the NCAA record for assists.  He dribbles way too much and looks for his shot first.  We’ll see if Coach Cal can work with him, but those are hard habits to break.  But theres no way he is a lottery pick right now.

Anyone recall Knight second game? 8 turnovers? How about Wall with 9 then 7? All Cal’s Pg look so so in the beginning on offense because he spends the first couple of weeks on defense, every year as the season goes on the PG gets better and better. Every year people doubt the PG but once it gets mid and late season they start to realize how good the player is. Just like every year y’all will see.

looked indecisive with the ball at times… played to fast to

coach cal took him in during one of the late first half timeouts and that really helped him for the rest of the game

Teague played like an AAU pg.

Good in the full court, not so much in the half court. Didnt make good decisions. Over-pentrated and ran into brick walls. He was putrid in the first half and picked it up a bit in the 2nd half when kentucky’s defense stepped up and they were able to get in the open court for a stretch.

I actually think doron lamb’s better at setting up the half court offense than this kid though.

Teague obviously has a lot to learn about becoming a true pg.  You can see he has tons of potential, but in terms of being a pure pg and being able to lead his team, he’s got a long way to go.

WizardofOz I agree 100 %. Before the season I predicted Teague would struggle and Lamb would end up playing there a lot more than we had expected. Lamb’s not a point, but a smart player is a smart player. I’d trust him more with the ball any day.

This is the last thing im going to say about Marquis vs Jeff…..

As i stated Marquis was def the better highschool player no question, even Jeff admitted that…

But far as college Marquis has a HUGE billing to live up to…….

I just think Jeff really exploded in college, and I dont think Marquis will be a better College or NBA player than Jeff.

He was a Wooden award finalist and would have won it, if he finished out his college career strong.

Jeff shot 54.7 Percent from 3 point land in the first half of 08-09 while averaging 21.5 PPG 4.5 APG 4.2 RPG and 2 Steals. And stepped up big when the lights was on 34 points on UNC, 30 on BYU

When it comes to the athletic part….again Jeff is quicker, more explosive, and has a better handle than Marquis, Jeff dunked numerous times in college and a few times ON people.

Only time will tell, but I think Jeff is more superior and a better prospect after HS
