halfdecayedParticipantaccording to Sam Amick via twitter, Marion commits to Cleveland. For some reason I cannot post the link but it is on Sam Amick’s twitter.
I think it’s a great signing for Cleveland, he will give them what they’ll need, defense and a veteran presence. Now I’d like to see them sign Ray Allen and a shotblocking center and they’d be set for a great season.
Thoughts on the signing?

TyroberParticipantMarion is a GREAT fit next to LeBron. I have always thought he would have been such a good fit next to LeBron playing the PF or SF. I think Marion can even play the SG next to LeBron and his defense will take the load off LeBrons shoulders as well. They will be so scary offensively if they grab Ray Allen too.

FearTheStacheParticipant2 seconds left in the game. Cleveland down 3, inbounding the ball. Cleveland puts out a lineup of Kyrie, Ray Allen, Mike Miller, Lebron and KLove. How do you defend that?!

doubledribblerParticipantGreat pickup. Cavs have had probably the best possible offseason that they could have. I still think that a healthy Bulls team would be the favorite in the East because they were already a defensive juggernaut and added some nice offensive pieces, Rose back and depth that they haven’t had for awhile. Marion makes things more interesting though and gives them some extra defense that is much needed. I still think Cavs need at least some type of defensive center. I like Varejao, but he hasn’t been healthy in awhile, but as of right now I think they will try to outscore every team they play.
This could be it’s own topic, but I wonder how much Wiggins would have gotten to play if he stayed this year. I don’t think there will be enough minutes for him. If they manage to bring in Allen I don’t think there would be any minutes for him outside of blowouts and maybe an occassional game where they decide to give someone extra rest. Nothing against his talent, there are just so many minutes to go around on a team looking to win now with legitimate players at the same position.

HitsterParticipantThe guy played over 30mpg for Dallas last season so is still in good shape and playing to a good level. Also he has had great durability through out his career so can probably give Cleveland a good couple of years especially if he doesn’t have to play such a heavy role.
He’d effectively do the Battier role next to LeBron and he gives the Cavs a useful extra scoring option although scoring is probably the last thing he has been signed to do. He has his title too from his time in Dallas so it’s not as if he has moved in a last ditch bid to grab one.
I also agree if ageless Ray Allen comes back for one more year then he’d be a great pick up. I think he’ll try for one more year perhaps, he’s only 27 baskets off 3,000 career 3 pointers so that’s a great incentive. If Ray didn’t fancy doing the whole season, the Cavs could always add him early in the new year for the run in and with one eye on the likely play off run.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThey now have an ideal small ball front line of LeBron, Marion, and Kevin Love. A ton of scoring and rebounding, shooting with Love, fast breaks, and then LeBron and Marion can guard anybody.
LeBron and Marion gives them some of that Jordan/Pippen/Rodman level of exerienced defense.
With those two defending the wing and with Andy V and Brendan Haywood, then if Kyrie and Waiters improve on D then I think they could win 70 games next year. Really, a complete team. So many weapons and they can go big or small.

gbmantisParticipantOn paper the Cavs are stacked, but 70 wins is easier said than done. I remember people predicting 70+ wins for the Heat in year 1, and also for the Lakers with Dwight and Nash before they started to trainwreck.

ExumInfernoParticipantThis isn’t just about adding a player, it’s about Cleveland keeping him away from other teams.
Indiana, and a bunch of other teams, wanted Marion so he could guard LeBron. That won’t happen now.
Plus, if LeBron is a combo-forward and so is Marion it allows James to have the easy defensive matchup while Marion puts in the effort to defend the other team’s better forward.
Cleveland are probably the favorite to win it all. The only thing they need to fear is a monster center playing against them in the playoffs, and they probably won’t see one, and maybe they would be worried about the veteran Spurs too.

phila9012ParticipantThe bulls have good post players, so they should be the favorites. The Wizards with gortat could give the cavs a little trouble. Jefferson with the hornets would probably dominate them with 25 and 10 a game, but they dont have enough around him to really comepete with the cavs. The center is a weakness but I don’t think it should be too big of a deal. I don’t know who is out there, but a tough physical defensive center who could play 15 to 20 minutes a game would help them more than adding ray allen.

Memphis MadnessParticipantTo win 70 games, the Cavs would have to go 2-1 against the Bulls and 2-1 against the Wizards and lose two other random Eastern Conference games, then split the season series with the top 8 Western Conference teams.
Few teams have the Cavs’ blend of scoring and playmaking with plenty of shooters and rebounding from every where on the floor.
With LeBron and Love as the top 2 guys and Kyrie as the third option (along with some spot up shooters) the Cavs should be able to score easier than most teams. Then, you have some top notch rebounders. LeBron and Marion can each guard 3 or 4 positions, while Andy V can protect the paint. They just need Waiters and Irving to step up their D and get some solid defense out of Dellavadova, Joe Harris, or James Jones.
