valentineTowards the end of the season this guy was an absolute terror on the offensive end. In 27 games with playing with SAC he averaged 21 pts,3,4 per game. Granted Evans was hurt but that could have been a blessing in disguise. If your sac what do you do with Salmons,Thornton,Evans,Daniels,Garcia,Fredette,Thomas someone has to leave.

llperezhoneycutt gets 36 minutes and the others get his scraps. But seriously i was wondering why thornton wasnt getting much run in new orleans last season. Sac has some solid talent b ut they need tyreke and cousins to become leaders and reliable go to guys to make the playoffs.

sheltwon3ParticipantI liked Thornton when he was at LSU and New Orleans Hornets and I think if Hornets felt they could keep West, they would not do this trade. Also Kings would be smart to resign Thornton who can give you starter numbers at a very cheap price.

I May Be WrongParticipantthis team has A LOT of depth actually. I think the team will start Jimmer, Evans, and Salmons. Ideally, it would be nice to keep Marcus for that instant offense role but in all honesty, if this team wanted to make the next step, they should look to package some sort of team for a more defensive minded big man. Hickson and Jason Thompson can play solid for the team at the 4 and DeMarcus is going to be that guy at the 5. I just don’t know who is backing him up if Sammy D is going to leave (which I think will happen).
Since Evans (when healthy) is going to eat up about 38 minutes a night playing both guard spots, and Salmons is porbably going to get 30 a night as well, Marcus Thorton is left out. Daniels got hurt and was in his last year of his contract so maybe they bring him back or he may just leave to a contending team. I like Garcia but he has a long-term contract that not many people will want. Salmons is still in his contract as well. And I like Honeycutt a lot but I can only see him getting scrap minutes. Marcus needs a team that showcase his abilties. Maybe a team like the Suns would work since Vince in his last year of the contract and they are rebuilding once Nash is gone. Maybe a trade like Lopez and Childress for a sign and trade for Marcus and Donte Greene (who I dont see fitting with the Kings anymore)

meirmeir13If they decide for any reason ( Witch I highly Doubt) what type of player could they get in return if they trade evans? Is he considered elite superstar ? or a brandon roy all star caliber type player.

river09Participantwhile depth is always great there are always teams looking for scorers and in my opinion they are in pretty high demand for sg’s… a trade here is inevitable. i’d say thornton is the odd man out since he just came in the year before and they drafted a pretty solid shooter in jimmer… an evan’s trade trade even seems possible for the right price… the value they could accumulate by trading away a couple of these guards could be substantial and since they can’t play all of them at once they must pull the trigger on something….

iguapops420ParticipantThornton can easily put points on the board so long as the team he’s doing it for doesn’t mind poor defense.

meirmeir13If this somehow could be done this could be a great fit. Great spot up shooter doesnt really need the ball in his hands a very good screen spot up shooter.

sheltwon3ParticipantI am based, I definitely get where you are coming from. Thornton is a proven player offensively but with all the talent they drafted and traded for, he may be the odd man out. Also I think Thompson may be on his way out but may stay because he can play both pf and c.

I May Be WrongParticipantI think Jason Thompson is an odd man out as well. I think adding Hickson is either trying to motivate Jason Thompson or is sending a message that his time is done in SAC-town. That sucks cuz I am really high on him and I think he can be a great fit for some teams. He’s athletic and very fast and has that ability to hit a 15 footer. He could become a solid 13 ppg and 8 rebounds and maybe 2 blocks kind of player. I made a thread a little while ago saying Iggy for Thornton and Thompson would be a great trade for both teams. Sac gets another ball handler and a defensive wing who can run and the Sixers get a potential 20 ppg scorer and a solid big man who can help us right away. I thought it was a good trade but some people disagreed lol

I May Be WrongParticipantnot a bad idea but you’d have to give up a valuable piece like a Taj Gibson. Not sure if the Bulls would want that with Boozer always getting hurt you know.

iguapops420ParticipantThornton doesn’t have defense Thibs likes. It’d be just like adding Ben Gordon back IMO. The Bulls need scoring, but not at the loss of D. Especially having Booz in the lineup. Smartest thing for Chi to do would be swinging a trade with Orl for Reddick to get rid of Boozer’s contract. Maybe Bass, JJ and picks for Boozer. Assuming the Bulls really do regret giving no D Booz that fat payday.

OhCanada-ParticipantMaybe I am wrong but didn’t the Casspi trade also free up time for Garcia to play at SF. It would also be fine for Salmons to have some minutes at SF, and Greene is on the last year of his deal in 2011/12. That will leave plenty of time for the gaurds to get minutes. If the lockout goes on throughout 2011/12 they can refuse to resign Greene, and also have a great oppurtunity in signing Harrison Barnes, Quincy Miller, Perry Jones, or James Mcadoo who all at this point have Top 5 talent.
Right now I think this would be starting lineups.
PG-Evans
SG-Thornton
SF-Salmons
PF-Hickson
C-CousinsJimmer and Garcia would be interchangable at the combo guard position, and combo wing position. Also Evans, Thornton, and Salmons, are all combos themselves. Sure is alot of offense on that team, but I see no defensive resistance at all. Should be interesting to see how this teams season plays out when basketball actaully starts up again.

ChrischiParticipantNew Orloeans always said that they didn’t play him much for his defense. Was Belinelli that much better of a defender. Maybe a little better shooter, but Marcus Thornton should be better at everything else.

Jlv20111) Kings love Thornton and will re-sign him with a considerable amount of money
2) Kings traded down in the draft to get Salmons and will be eating up the minutes at SF. Thornton will get plenty of time at SG
3) Kings will not start Jimmer. Most likey lineup will be with Salmons, Evans and Thornton. Unless a point guard is added
4) Kings have no intention for trading Evans. If anything, Westphal will be the first to leave if their play is poor next year
5) On the trading block: Greene and Thompson. Garcia should be but his contract stinks
