trapgamesolidParticipantFor those who missed the game yesterday, there’s a good article that sums up his incredible impact down the stretch.
I think superstars nowadays are more defined by their offensive dominance, but for me a guy that has the ability to change a game defensively the way Smart did on a consistent basis should also enter the superstar discussion.
I think smart has long ways to go before you can consider him a consistent impactful superstar, but from what I saw yesterday, the potential is certainly there.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantHe is well on his way with the way he stepped up last night. That 4 qtr baseline dunk and the 2 threes. He isn’t afraid of the moment that’s forsure.
Next year I believe they should make him the full time start with every Bradley at the 2 and bring Isaiah off the bench to fill it up in a Jamal Crawford role. Celtics have a bright future.

trapgamesolidParticipantIf the celts can get size upfront, they’ll be scary next year. They just need to let Sullinger go if he can’t lose significant weight in the offseason.

lalailaParticipantwhat are you guys talking about??? IT is looking like A.I. in recent games.. how you can bench him if he is ALLSTAR and on his way to prove he belongs in top5 PG conversation.
Just wow how much size and "potential" are overrated

trapgamesolidParticipantI don’t agree with benching Isiah, he’s the best player on the team at this point. But the Cs need size. Milsap just exposed the entire frontline this series. They’ll need to get a better frontline for sure.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantLast time I checked no ones ever won a championship with a undersized shoot first pg. I know Isaiah’s greatness. Played vs him several times during highschool. But he is not the player that leads you to a ship at the point. He is a 6th man on a championship team. Period.

lalailaParticipantGame has changed why you are talking what you have seen or not..
only 5years ago everybody hated or shoot first PGs not even talking about 10 threes shooting PG winning championship and like 3more similar players leading their teams to winning seasons.
Thomas has killer instinct, good leader, and the team goes as he goes..
I dont care even if IT would be 4feet tall I am not benching this type of player with this production for 9ppg 35% guard.
First off all there is even a question will Smart ever be as good as IT and only then we can discuss if he have the potential to be that much better that I waste IT’s allstar talent benching him to wait on Marcus

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantYeah if the goal is losing in the first round every year go ahead and build around a shoot first 5’9" point. Go ahead and act like size doesn’t matter.

lalailaParticipantfirst of all they might go to semi’s even this year still (mostly because of Thomas)
and if not it’s clearly not because of him, but because nobody can guard Millsap and Horford.. they need good long big men
I mean do you really think Smart is the answer for your so needed championship point guard.
I see nothing championship like from those 35% field goal shooting and shooting ton of threes while you have 230lbs body.
Do you honestly think he will CLEARLY be better than Thomas? Because if yes it’s no point to discuss there we just have TOO different of opinions, that its a waste of time

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantAll I’m saying is if Marcus Smart becomes the potential player he can be. Someone who can set the tone defensively vs the John walls and kyrie Irvings of the east along with being able wear you down offensively. Then you have the luxury of an Isaiah coming in and getting buckets not having to worry about chemistry or getting guys shots.
But yeah sure if they build around him and a big like a horford or something they could make the conference finals but does it push you over the top? No.

Bankroll PJParticipantHit the brakes on the superstar talk. He has to become an all star first. There are only so many superstars in the league and Smart has not entered that elite category.
0- Posted on: Mon, 04/25/2016 - 7:14am #1057094
trapgamesolidParticipantMy point was, what do you define as superstar? I think most superstars are recognized by their offensive dominance and very few are reconigzed by their defensive dominance. For example, Tony Allen has been a dominant defensive player for years, but never made the all-star team cause he can’t score. Yet James Harden makes it every year but can’t cover his own shadow.
If you define a superstar solely based on one aspect of the game (offense vs defense), then Smart has superstar potenial in terms of affecting a game defensively like he did yesterday.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantDefensively he can be among the best in the league for a long time. The way he took the challenge and locked down Millsap down the stretch was pretty incredible, since Millsap absolutely had it rolling and he was giving up 4-5 inches. He used his center of gravity to force Millsap further out on the floor than he wanted on his post ups and used his quickness and strength to force him into tough shots. A guy that can guard 3-4 positions on the court is always going to be extremely valuable.
Offensively, he is very inconsistent and has a ways to go before you could even talk about him being a potential " superstar".

Meditated StatesParticipantIs better or will ever be as good as IT lol. Watch more Celtics games. Smart had a good game. He will never be a penetrator, facilitator at a high level.

celticsthugI like smart but isiah is the shit. smart can either play the 2 since he likes to chuck threes or come off bench. worse pg than Thomas have won tittles. he cant be best player on a tittle squad. but he can start on one for damn sure. hell john paxon one titles.lol

mamadouParticipantKorver didn’t get a shot when he was guarding him.
Then he destroyed millsap who was having a PO high, he gives him 2 pts on like 8 iso plays….
Power forward with PG size.
He guards all 5 positions at some point in a game, he already guarded everything from 5’11 to 7’2 this season, he boxes out players having 8 inches on him.
Coach on the floor, defensive coordinator, his 9 pts with terrible shooting are worth more than 17 pts from 1 way players without all round game.
What a surprise, he’s the only 1st rounder in his class, being in the PO, being a real factor, +30 in his last 2 games, down 0-2.
10 pts in 22 mins last season in the PO as a rookie…
He’s no superstar and never will be, not even a star or an all star, just an incredible heart and soul player who will get better as an ultimate role player with added star power, size, athleticism and shooting in that roster.
Keep talking about the seller, 25% 3 pts shooter he is, he’ll continue to make big and timely plays at both ends, that’s what he does.
Meanwhile, i’ll wait on the superstars of the last 2 drafts to play a PO a game in their career.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantIs Draymond Green a superstar? Because if he is, I believe Marcus Smart can be a do it all, undersized Draymond Green type player. At 22 if he can become a 35% three point shooter, his game would go to a different level.
