Dude can play but…..he has a problem. He is WAY to emotional. He needs to learn to control that. He definitely cost himself a lot this season.

WOW..so much potential but his attitude is horrible.  He flops more then any player I’ve seen in years. An now this? Lost in all this is how does a potential top five pick let his team lose too tech?

I really hope this doesn’t get blown out of proportion.  I have no idea what the man said, but if was probably pretty bad.  It was a horrifc decision from Smart, but he’s only 20 years old. He’ll grow up.  He’s not a bad person.  If he had a history of legal problems, it would be a different story, but he is by all accounts a great kid.  Some people will think of him as thug now and will question his character, and that’s unfortunate.  I really don’t think this will be an issue in the NBA.  He has a lot of passion, to a fault right now.  I should probably be more disturbed by what he did, but I’m just not.  If he would’ve put any actual effort into that push, the man would’ve fallen over.  Smart is 6’4 220 and the guy barely moved.  I want to know what was said to him, because that really does make a difference to me.   It was an awful decision and Smart definitely needs to make a public apology, but I just hope this doesn’t ruin his reputation, because I’ve read a lot about his past and you have to be an incredibly strong person to go what he has gone through.  I’m still a big fan.

I agree with most of what you said, other than it matters what the fan said.  Obscenities are thrown out by opposing fans like nothing.  Fans are always going to heckle opposing players, especially the team’s best player.  He shouldn’t have reacted the way he did, no matter what.

I can remember when Juan Dixon was in college, I forget what school was yelling this, but they were chanting about his mom being a crack head.  Just about as low as any fan base can go, yet he didn’t lose his cool.

Fans yell some pretty cruel obscenities, but that doesn’t justify the the response of Smart.  He needs to chill out and learn fans are going to heckle.

That’s true.  I guess I’ve just never been in that type of situation so it seems amazing to me that guys can keep their cool when fans are yelling stuff like that.  The only reason I said it does matter to me is because if he attacked that fan for absolutely no reason, I’d be a little more worried about Smart.

it ABSOLUTELY matters what the fan said.  it doesnt make his response correct but it would explain why he lost his cool.  if he said something racial, damn if it doesnt matter.  what you are talking about as far as Juan Dixon is totally different.  Some of the stuff fans chanted and put on signs about JJ Redick when he was in college???  Still, its in a totally different realm when someone PERSONALLY addresses you.  People always act like these athletes arent human.  They are not robots with pre-programmed responses.  I couldnt see myself doing what he did, but I am not Marcus Smart.  My mental and chemical make up, not to mention my age is totally different from him.  So its easy for us to sit back and say what he did was dumb.

Well you’re obviously flat out wrong.  You think Smart is the only dude that’s been heckled before?  Some meaningless words from some random guy in a crowd of thousands of people shouldn’t provoke a player to put their hands on them.  He lost his cool, and shouldn’t have.  He knows it, the school knows it, his team knows it, you even know it.  So don’t stand there and defend the kid for what he did acting like it was justified.

You think what was said to Marcus was even 1% as bad as anything Jackie Robinson had to put up with on the field?  How many times did he jump into the stands or push a fan?

I’m sure the fan said something he shouldn’t have, but Smart needs to keep his cool regardless of what meaningless words were said.  If you think this is justified you’re flat out ignorant as hell, it’s that simple.

Shyt definitly just hit the fan for Marcus Smart’s draft stock, he’s bound to take a serious slide back into the lottery/mid first round pick if he’s hit with a NCAA suspension or ban…Still I’d take him in a heartbeat with The Pelican’s pick if I’m Philly if he happens to slide that far…

The worst part is that SportsCenter will play this 20 times an hour for the next week.

It’s bad but it’s not the Palace of Auburn hills nightmare or anything.  But as a Kansas Basketball fan I want Smart in the games. It’s not good too have an elite player like him out. He makes the teams he plays have too step up an guard. Hope he’s not out for long enjoy watching him an hopes he learns from this and continues too improve on an off the fllor.

This was a really dumb thing to do.  For everyone who says stay in school, get better, prepare yourself for the NBA bla bla bla, this is why if you are pretty much guaranteed to go top 3 you do it.

And I’m also convinced most people on this forum don’t know the difference between to and too.  On this thread it’s ridiculous.

I don’t think it is fair to judge Marcus Smart until we know what the fan said. If the fan dropped a racial slur then go Marcus Smart for standing up for himself. He was on his way back to the court before the fan said something bad enough for him to turnaround. He may still get a few games, but shouldn’t be the rest of the year if the fan started it. If that fan did say a racial slur he should be banned from going to anymore games this year. However, if all he said was you suck or something along those lines than it’s on Marcus Smart and his attitude. Depending on what it was that was said will determine his fate with Oklahoma State and the draft in my opinion.

It’s pretty crappy that fans are always allowed to say whatever they want with no repercussion… ever. There are some "fans" who only go to games so they can abuse others consequence-free. They also, sometimes, think they’re a part of the game or the entertainment.

God forbid they kick these people out of the stadium. That would hurt business.
