    It’s a 4yr/$77M extension. Unlike Schroder, he is smart enough to take this deal but man I guess the C’s see him as a lifer.

    It’s about loyalty. The Celtics are focused on rebuilding their reputation around the league post Ainge. There’s plenty reason to think they will bounce back this year and I’m happy to see them rewarding Marcus. While this likely prevents them from signing Beal outright in FA next year, I doubt the Wizards let him get there, this extension doesn’t prevent a trade at the deadline. With Schroeder and a year 2 Payton Pritchard, the C’s should be able to keep him off ball limiting his worst tendencies. I like the move.

    I’m probably in the minority here in thinking Marcus Smart is one of the best PG’s in the league. His defense and intensity is something you can’t teach and to get that toughness from your PG really makes it infectious. He’s still only 27 and I’ve seen him have moments where he was a very effective offensive player. I think he will continue to grow and improve on that end and fully justify this contract, it will look like a bargain.

    He is an elite defender which any team who wants to contend would find useful. It is a reasonable value extension for both sides. What reputation have the Celtics to rebuild post Ainge?

    Perfect piece to fit next to Brown and Tatum. He can guard the other teams best guard and make life difficult for him. The contract is reasonable for the Celtics but also enough to make Smart happy. Win Win

    Celtics getting their extensions done early so this team can move forward. This looks like being the core roster for next couple of seasons until Horford’s deal expires unless they can move him. So it looks like Brad Stevens has decided to secure his key supporting players.

    I’m happy Boston has moved on from Danny Ainge. The guy burnt too many bridges… It can’t always be “just business”…
