TRC1991ParticipantDude will have a sportscenter not top 10 segment all to himself this year.
every game he gets put in a spin cycle by someone
its been a long time since I’ve seen a player who is noticeably outmatched at every level of the game like he is
there are bad NBA players and then there are guys who shouldn’t be in the NBA – Huertas is in this category
if you have no idea what I’m talking about – go watch Brandon Knight turn him completely around last night with a simple hesitation cross over

TRC1991ParticipantJust a clueless player which is odd because international guys tend to be high IQ players

SkalAndJamalParticipantBig part of defense is motor and most euros dont really have it.

cargathusParticipantI wouldn’t say its lack of a motor. His motor just happens to be old and slow at this point.

European BasketballerParticipantHe’s from Brazil, but he’s also Italian, has Italian citizenship, and has played almost his whole career in Europe. So he’s definitely a Euro player.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantHe actually is a very high iq player which is why he is in the league in the first place. He is clearly having trouble adjusting to the speed of the NBA game and is overmatched from an athletic perspective though.

llperezhe sucks on defense but he is doing fine on offense and is very high iq. Not sure if he deserves to be in league or not but saying he is low iq or is bad in all phases is silly. Hes only struggling on defense.

King CaluchaParticipantThose mistakes don’t make him deserve a "low iq" label. He’s actually one of the best pick and roll players in the world. Clearly, he’s old and overwhelmed by the athleticism of the NBA. If you say he doesn’t deserve to be in NBA, it’s because you haven’t watched him play.

cargathusParticipantI don’t think he shouldn’t be in the NBA. I think he would be perfect as a 3rd string pg that could bring a veteran presence and intangibles (working hard, setting good example for younger players, doing the little things needed when you take a sport seriously). He wouldn’t get playing time except in really specific situations but if I was the head coach I wouldn’t mind having him on the bench and in practice as a 3rd string pg.

European BasketballerParticipantHuertas has been the worst defensive player in the Euroleague ever since he played in the Euroleague. He has also been one of the worst point guards in Euroleague in each of the last 3 seasons.
Why would anyone be surprised that he is bad at defense, when he was always by far the worst defender in Euroleague? That’s what he is famous for and known for his whole career – being horrific at defense.
And why would anyone be surprised that he might not play well, when he was terrible in each of the last 3 seasons?
At his prime of his career, he was a horrible defensive player, but he was a very good (not great), but very good offensive player. It used to be that teams could play him 20 minutes and hide his defense, because he was very good on offense.
However, Huertas has been an ex (should have been retired already) player since 2012. The last time I ever saw him play good was in 2012 with Brazil’s national team at the London Olympics.
Ever since that time, he was horribly bad in Spanish League and Euroleague, and he was an absolute disaster every time he played for Brazil since then.
I think the Lakers watched him play in the 2012 Olympics and gave him a contract solely on that alone, and that ther can be ZERO chance they ever saw a single game he played since 2012.
Huertas was at one time a very fun player to watch, and had great instincts as a player, but as they say "father time is undefeated", and Huertas should have retired from basketball at least 2 years ago, and more like 3.
The fact the Lakers signed him, when Barca was counting the seconds until they could finally get rid of him (his guaranteed contract was why they could not cut him, otherwiswe they would have 2 years ago) just proves how ridiculously incomopetent the Lakers management is.
I can guarantee that there is a zero chance Huertas can get a contract in any half decent team in Euroleague. This summer he tried really hard to get a Euroleague contract before he signed with the Lakers and not a single team in Euroleague offered him a contract. he actrually signed with Galatasaray, that plays in 2nd level Eurocup before the Lakers signed him.
In strange case, his contract had an NBA opt out option in it, which is ridiculous considering no team of Euroleague would even offer him a deal. And yet somehow, his agent and the Lakers landed him in the NBA. A proof of total incompetence from Lakers managers and that Lakers scouts have a ZERO knowledge of any players in Euroleague. Otherwise they would have laughed at the suggestion of signing him.
