TopShottaParticipantHe should of never went there to begin with. Coach Howland’s system did not fit his style of play at all…..

TarHeelRavenParticipantWho wants a 6’2′ shooting guard with absolutely zero point guard skills?? His best bet might be to play overseas for a year instead of wasting a year sitting out after transferring.

tigers04ParticipantMaybe he finally realized he needs to work on his lead guard skills. So if he sits out a year then comes back a better player, is it really wasting a year?

losnopesosParticipantI think this shows you that winning in college is more than getting good players. I’d love to see the difference between Cal/K in practice talking with Newman vs. Howland.

AwardedBallerParticipantI don’t think Coach Howland is the issue here. I’ve always seen Newman as an overrated and extremely cocky undersized 2 guard. Not to sound harsh and make too harsh and make too much of a judgement on someone who is still a teen essentially but, he kind of epitomizes what Mark Jackson was referring to when he said Steph Curry hurts the game in that players without his skill set will make attempts to play like him. Newman pulling up from 27 feet out with a shaky jumper is not the best for him and whatever school he decides to go to next.
I believe he can and will work to become better, but he might need to change his mindset a little bit because lets be honest, it kind of seems like he went to Mississippi State because he thought he was going to be THE guy. It’s not high school anymore, there’s very few scrubs.

ph90702Any coach who has been to three Final Fours is a good coach. You can’t talent your way there on multiple occasions, let alone once.

McDunkinNewman and his parents have always wanted to be in the NBA over college. That goes double for a season spent redshirted. That’s why the JUCO idea popped up. Don’t be surprised if you see him on a NBADL, Chinese, or even Australian bench next season before you see him in a classroom.

Hype MachineI don’t see him as an NBA player but Malik Newman would be the kinda import that crushes in the Australian League.
Imports are expected to take and make a lot of shots from day 1. Being timid gets you a business class ticket back to the D League for minimum wage. Better to fire and miss than die wondering here.
Good imports make about 200k for 6 months including endorsements…and most play for 2 teams so they head somewhere like Puerto Rico for the rest of the year where they can effectively double their salary. Its a 12mth a year job but not bad money.
Not sure his style would suit the Euroleague teams (not too keen on US gunners) although a booming China League could be an option to get a paycheck in that 20-30k a month range.
