Was wavied by the Lakers today..He averaged 3.2pts and 9.8 minutes in summer league. Couple of months ago I was negged pretty bad for saying this dude has no shot in the NBA. I’m curious on why he only averaged 9 minutes a game and why the heck were people high on him in the first place? Do you guys still think he has a shot in the NBA?

Yea I too didn;t buy in to his hype. I compared him to Austin Rivers way back and he’s way behind even him. He has no finishing ability whatsoever nor does he have a quick first step, so in a lot of his games, his jumpshot determines whether he plays good or not because he also does not get to the foul line often. And as we all know, his shot inconsistent. Also, his handles aren’t that tight for him to be a point guard, nor is his vision and IQ good at all.

I wrote on here while he was in high school that his ceiling was Daniel Gibson with a crossover and that he’d struggle at Mississippi State and got absolutely hammered for it. He’s a fairly unathletic volume shooter with a limited feel cor the game. He’ll make money overseas, but he’s not an NBA player.

This was a better draft for big men than wings (except for Kevin Knox although he was mainly a volume scorer in SL), but I did actually like Malik Newman.  Although I liked Donte Inferno too — and Rob Gray.  Those 3 basically did ZERO — COMBINED.

He looks like a G League guy at this point with the potential to be a 10 day contract guy.

As good as a lot of guys, but maybe not better.

I think that the league is trending bigger again, and smallish, not-so-athletic combo guards are a dime a dozen.

He’ll probably be a G-League all star with his jumper, and slowly make his way into the league by the time he’s 25.

It seems like a million years ago when Svi and Newman were one of the hottest names in a 2K draft class.

While Svi actually has something to show for in his shot and solid all around game Newman has nothing of that. Kind of reminds me of Josh Selby a few years ago where he was hyped big time before coming to the league just to show that both are players with massive flaws and a lack of feel for the game.
