What are his expectations as far as the NBA goes? Do you guys see him ever transitioning to a PG (He did play full time lead guard for team USA this summer) or will he just be a ball dominant scoring guard a la Dion Waiters? Just curious how scouts see this kid because I really want to see him succeed.

I haven’t seen him play a lot, but most of the scouting reports and projections I’ve seen on him predict a combo in the mold of Monta Ellis. He’s got that same lightning quick, break neck speed Monta has with the ball in his hands, but he can finish above the ring a little better than Ellis at the same stage. His 3 point range is also a lot better than Monta at the same point.

Personally, I think if he retains the gunner mind set he has currently, he could become a Gilbert Arenas style lead guard.

I remember seeing somewhere that he could be a mix of Damian Lillard and Monta Ellis, I really hope that comes into fruition too as I love the way Newman plays

have people given up on him getting taller?  i think i remember reading an article that said that his father is 6’7. I do agree with the lillard and ellis comparison though

Not a concern of mine one bit as a supporter. I know it may be a strike towards Newman in the scheme of the prospect world, but his explosiveness makes up for it in my book. He showcases that pre-injury Derrick Rose type of quick burst explosiveness. I am not saying they are the same player at all, just putting the quick burst explosion into perspective of why I feel it shouldn’t matter. It would be a different review on my part if his game was more relaxed and slow paced while measuring in at 6’3”.

The worst case scenario of a decline in quick burst explosiveness at 6’3” would be Eric Gordon. Gordon’s entire game was built off his ability to do what he wanted while carrying the weight because of his explosive burst. Hopefully this will open up more eyes to what I see ahead on the positive and negative side of things for Newman.

he may struggle in the nba. my senses tell me he likes to jack to much to ever play as a pg on a serious winnng basketball team and i dont like players who have habots of setting up jumpers after hesition dribbles as pg. he seems like a sg. with that said he lacks ability to finish over deveders but can finish around them… good not great. struggles off ball and is not a very comfortable shporing off the catch. one more combo
