eanowParticipantLooks like they might know that the Sixers are picking Embiid at 3 and they will take Exum at 4, what do you guys think ?

jazznationpresidentParticipantI’m not sure why you’d make room for him. He is like 18 years old, even if you think he will be an uber all star if I’m the team I wouldn’t want to rely on him starting and have to play him major minutes. It often takes rookies a while to adjust to the speed of the game and work through how often an dhow much they have to get up and play. I wouldnt make any room for him and let him come in and compete in year 1. AFter year 1, yes, I see that. Or why not make the trade in Feb?

WetalkinboutpracticeParticipant18 year olds can play in the league. Especially one like Exum whose been competing alongside and against adults for awhile now with his national club. Now when you’re asking a kid to be a star or franchise player at 18 that’s an entirely different story. I truly don’t think Exum would carry that type of load in Orlando right off the bat. He certainly could be thrust into the starting five as a rookie but I doubt Henningan & Vaughn would expect Exum to be Derrick Rose or Westbrook type of allstar as neophyte. He’d be given the time to grow into his own with the rest of the young talent on the Magic roster.

the team is not going to compete this year, so play all the people you think have a future so they can develop individually and learn to play with each other.
Cleveland with Dion and Kyrie and then with Bennett last year is prime example of what not to do when you know your not a contender.
They still don’t know if there best guards can play together and it took till the last month of the season for Bennett to get in shape and finally show some of his potential.
Only veteran playoff teams should wait and not put lottery rookies in the rotation day 1.

TyroberParticipantIf that is the case then wouldn’t it make 1000x times more sense to go ahead and draft Exum at 4 and THEN make the trade? I don’t see any reason why this was rushed.

burgessfourParticipantNo doubt, this is a very curious deal. If they’re taking Exum why not keep Affalo around to help him out and then move him in Feb when he’ll have more value to a contender or as an expiring contract ?

eanowParticipantThey must think he can play right away alongside Oladipo…what do the Magic care they have nothing to lose..they lost like 60 games last year…what’s the risk
