Just curious who the forum thinks will have the better career & why?

The famed Drew Hanlen recently went on record to say that Markelle Fultz’s shot has improved so much this offseason that he could be an all star, THIS YEAR. That would be crazy….. considering how much of a roller-coaster season he had his rookie campaign.

Would love to revisit this thread in two years to see where each of these phenoms are in their respective careers!

     Fultz>Donic

Fultz really wants to Be great. Love his work ethic. His shot dramtically improved, His Body looks amazing (No Homo) and his Athleticism been off the charts. Just looking at his Videos over the summer on IG and YouTube he is ready for a Breakout season.

Wow. I just don’t know what to say. Is this "No Homo" a normal thing to say in the US? Do you also write "Your kids are nice (No Pedo) and your dog is so cute (No Zoo)"?

It’s not normal, at least anymore. In fact, some people find it insanely offensive. I remember Roy Hibbert once got in trouble for saying it during a press conference, and that was years ago now.

Maybe it’s time to finally put it to rest.

There was a rap group called Dipset (Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, etc) use to say it a lot in there popular songs but they’re popularity faded after 2007 and now basically no one says it anymore and most people think its dumb.

People still say it. It was dumb then and it’s dumb now. Its usually men that have homosexual impulses but dont act on them or are too weak to express their true sexuality that say it.

With that being said I dont think it was ever a derogatory term. Just a misunderstood expression that could be taken the wrong way by people.

I’d have to go with doncic right now. I’m not saying fultz is necessarily not going to have a very good career but the one major concern I have with him is that he seems to be someone who struggles with confidence and can let struggles get in his head. The fact that he basically lost his jump shot (whatever the reasons were) for an entire season is basically unheard of. While the physical tools are there, I kind of question if he has the mental makeup do be a truly great player in this league. I also kind of question what his ultimate fit will be in philly, given that he is a player that really needs the ball in his hands to thrive, but that will probably never be his role as long as Simmons and embiid are on the roster. And unless he really resolves his shooting woes, I’m not sure you can play him and Simmons together. I’m just not sure he’ll ever reach his full potential as a player in Philadelphia. But I could be wrong.

I think he has that rare ability to make his whole team better. Plus even be the guy to take the last shot(in a couple years)

Too early to tell.. gotta see Lucka play against some athletic Americans..Fultz played against future NBAplayers in college..We haven’t seen Lucka play against any REAL NBA comp..Not saying he’s not going to be good but did he go against any guys during pre-draft workouts? I remember when Dante Exum  and Ricky Rubio was getting this much hype and they also didn’t go against anyone in pre-draft workouts.

My thoughts exactly. Players who have been good out of Europe recently haven’t come with that much hype, i.e. Jokic Giannis and porzingis Shroder nurkic. The mystery players out of Europe are the ones to watch out for

Fultz is more athletic, the better scorer and on the stronger team plus he was drafted higher in what were fairly equal respective drafts but Doncic certainly has the better basketball IQ is more NBA ready than Fultz was last year and whilst not having that superstar quality that Fultz had when he was drafted. I just somehow think Luka will be a more effective NBA player.

Judging European Guys is harder but NBA Teams have huge scouting resources with great knowledge of the Euro Leagues so they no doubt think they know exactly how good guys like Doncic are.

Have and will never understand why people were/are so high on Fultz. Took a preseason ranked team to NINE wins in a weak conference while padding his stats against nobodies, is just a good, not great athlete by NBA standards, has to spin dribble his way into the lane then gets caught with no plan, doesn’t elevate in traffic, can’t shoot, and apparently had bad workouts in the pre-draft process.

Haven’t seen a ton of Doncic, but he led his team to a title in the toughest non-NBA league in the world as teenager while also being named league MVP. That should say something.

Also, if Fultz makes the All-Star team I’ll post a video of me eating a license plate.

Both these guys have too much hype until they can show us their stuff in regular games.

Fultz might be the better the athlete, but Luka has better skills.  More size, too.

Luka might end up being a core guy but maybe not THE guy.  Same with Fultz.

Neither is making the All Star team this year.

We can have this same discussion next year.

I Luv both players – very young, huge upside & I can’t wait to see Both this year.

Doncic is a guy we all want to see if his skill set translates from the Euro League but we still just don’t know

We’re hearing Embiid getting Fultz to work w/ Drew Hanlen has got him back on track – according to Hanlen himself Fultz will be a monster – but I Need to See it on an NBA court in an NBA game

Now remember we DID see Fultz play in the NBA at the end of the season in Phila & at 19 he was not shooting at all but he was extremely impressive – Fultz’s size, his athleticism & his elite 1st step & freak athleticism were just oozing off the TV screen

But I was Very impressed w/ Fultz’s discipline for a young kid – people forget that Fultz basically replaced TJ McConnel – who is Not great but Brett Brown trust McConnel implicitly to run that Phila offense for those 15 min where Ben Simmons gets a rest & TJ played NO minutes down the stretch — Fultz almost Never turned the ball over & got all his shooters in their spots by breaking down the defender & penetrating over & over again

It’s funny the media talks about Belinelli & Ilyasova being so great for Phila down the stretch and they both Were but those guys played w/ Fultz as their point guard Not Simmons b/c they were the 2nd Unit – Fultz consistently collapsed the Defense w/ his dribble penetration & then made the correct pass

but No one focused on anything but that Fultz would not shoot 3’s but he was literally 19 years old – walked on the court after a 68 game absence & just tore experienced NBA defenders apart – that DOES matter & he is only going to improve

So as of right now I lean towards Fultz b/c I was very impressed w/ what I saw in actual NBA against NBA players in meaningful games – Phila needed to win Every game down the stretch to get that #3 seed —- but It’s very close & I don;t think you can go wrong w/ either player

Writing that Fultz "tore up experienced NBA defenders" has to be one of the most hyperbolic and ridiculous things I’ve ever read. Nothing about his athleticism is elite. It’s not even great. By NBA standards, he’s just good. You Philly fans are a trip.

to returning to the court & getting to the Rim any time he wanted to while running that offense –

I’m guessing you prob did not see any of the games he played

Am I biased – yes a little bit – I wanted the Lakers to land Fultz over Ball

But I’m honestly going by what I saw w/ my eyes late in the season – the criticism of Fultz is fair but it’s been entirely his shooting issues

My main point is we’ve actually seen Fultz succeed on an NBA court & we have not seen Doncic yet – though I luv Doncic too

Resist Group Think homie – it will rot your brain

We have two completely different sets of eyes, ’cause the kid I saw couldn’t get past anybody without over dribbling into a spin, couldn’t finish over length and couldn’t get off the bench in the playoffs. Might be a reason for that.

Fultz’s struggles were so unique and frankly bizarre that nobody can really say definitively what his situation will be. Your only argument was an eye test and it’s clear that you were looking for reasons to support an argument you made months in advance.

Also, way to go out on a limb there and suggest that two different human beings don’t share the same set of eyes. Bold statement.

I agree that based off of what we were told (if you believe it…) then you can’t make a judgement on his game just yet. But, I had no pre-existing bias that I was looking to affirm. Objectively speaking, he did not look good. One can make a litany of excuses, but he just plain didn’t.

Also, was pointing out how we watched the same guy and came away with very different opinions. Strong reading comprehension, homie.

My point, which might have been unclear with unwarranted sarcasm (my bad), was that you can’t state it as objective fact and point out that it’s subjective in the same breath. You and the other doubters were looking for more, I guess, while I and others thought he looked good considering where he was at with his recovery and the point in the season.

That’s fair. In his defense, he did have flashes where I thought he showed potential, specifically as a help defender. He had a few nice blocks after rotating off his man.

Luka has technically played against NBA talent both in Eurochamps play where he went at Porzingas and against OKC and Russ when he played for Real Madrid(preseason) as I think either a 16 or 17 year old(the season we had Oladipo).Futlz has also had international play(at age level) and played vs NBA talent also although it was more limited than expected.

I would wait until both have had 4 years in the league under their belt.As sometimes it can be either getting used to the league or getting the right coach who unlocks his skill set. See Billups as a player where this happened: Boston,T-wolves then finally Pistons is where his game took the jump in the right direction..

As this both have sort of similar skill sets with Futlz being slightly more athletic. Both could potentially be starting on their team(I think Futlz is getting the nod on that front).

As for Futlz’s trainer saying he will be an Allstar…He won’t be fully wrong, as I could see him making the sophomore vs Rookie game if his game has improved as much as Drew H has said. As for Allstar maybe in couple of seasons(if he keeps improving) as the East is now technically alot more sparse for talent due to at good 70% of it being out in the West Vs Luka who has to compete with Booker,R.W,Harden,CP3,Curry,Klay,Dame,Ball,Donovan and the list goes on before he even gets a legitshot at allstar….
