I have posted about this before, but I continue to be confused.  Does anyone know if Nogueira will be available in the 2011 draft?  I have seen 2011.  I have seen 2012.  Anyone know for sure?  I’d love to see my Sixers grab him at #16.

Chad Ford seem to think he will be there…

    International

International players under 22 years old who have declared or are likely to declare

    Andrew Albicy, G, France
The diminutive point guard from France is averaging 11 ppg this season and shooting the ball very well. But he’s likely a second-round pick.

    Bismack Biyombo, PF, Congo
Biyombo is the hot international player thinking about the draft. Scouts compare him to a young Serge Ibaka. He has an NBA body, a massive 7-foot-7 wingspan and he jumps out of the gym. He’s still raw, but in a draft without a lot of upside, this kid has it.

    Enes Kanter, C, Turkey
The NCAA denied Kanter’s bid to play for Kentucky this season, placing him in limbo all season. He’s been hanging around Kentucky, working as a student-assistant coach, but the loss of playing time hurts. He’ll spend the spring working with Michael Jordan’s former trainer, Tim Grover, in Chicago in preparation for the draft.

Most GMs still have him as a top-five or top-six pick. Great workouts could lift him even higher.

    Augusto Lima, F, Brazil
Lima is a long, athletic 4 who runs the floor well and crashes the boards. His offensive game is a work in progress, but he’s got the coveted upside that scouts like. A potential first-round pick if he declares and stays in the draft.

    Nikola Mirotic, F, Serbia
International scouts have been high on Mirotic ever since he played well in the Nike Hoop Summit in April. But since Mirotic wasn’t getting much run, they thought his chances of coming to the NBA anytime soon were slim. However, he’s getting meaningful minutes on one of the top teams in Europe this season and has been very productive. If he declares for the draft, he’s got a great shot at going in the first round.

    Lucas Nogueira, C, Brazil
Nogueira was a dominant rebounder and shot-blocker versus Team USA in the under-18 tournament this past summer. The scouts who have watched him play in the Spanish League say he is still raw and needs to add strength, but his motor and shot-blocking ability make him a very intriguing prospect. A likely first-round pick.

    Jonas Valanciunas, F/C, Lithuania
Valanciunas is the most highly rated international player on our board. But will he come to the NBA this season? Concerns about a massive buyout could keep him in Europe for a couple more years. Is any team willing to take the risk high in the lottery?

    Jan Vesely, PF, Czech Republic
Vesely is a terrific athlete who has played major minutes on a Euroleague team the past two seasons. He has already announced he’ll be in the draft. Many scouts think he’s the most NBA-ready European player out there and a likely top-10 pick.

I think I’ve said this several times. Noguiera needs to gain some weight and is extremely raw on the offensive end. He only weighs like 200 lbs. Until he gains more weight and strength he won’t be declaring for the draft. Maybe next year but definitely not this year.

I already have Jonas, Jan, Kanter, and Montie in my lottery and I think they all deserve it. I didn’t really know about the buyout problems with Jonas but I still think he is going lottery. Would be a good pickup for the Pistons or Warriors.

Mirotic is also in my first round, and every time I post my mock someone always says he is too high, well maybe they should take notice at what he is doing, and realize that he probably should go higher. I currently have him at 23.

Never heard about Lima, I’ll have to look him up. I’m still wondering if I should put Bismack in my first round mock. I’ve heard he’s a little overrated other then just being extremely raw on the offensive end. I currently have him in the Early second round.

Noguira needs to do alot of things before he declares in my opnion. It is different then just your usually "Freshman", "Needs to develop his game", "Should wait another year", stories. Not only should Bebe develop his game more, he needs to gain weight, and understand the game alot better, and he still has to learn english. Lets not forget about the culture boundaries from moving to North America.

Lima reminds me of Brandon Wright, not what he was supposed to be but what he is now.

Guys, his question is, "Does anyone know if Nogueira will be available in the 2011 draft?", not will he be ready and why?

I’d personally like to know the answer to that question to.

Thanks, 27guy…. nobody seems to be able to answer this question for sure.

I appreciate all the opinions, but I’m looking for some facts here.  Mainly, is he eligible for the 2011 draft?

Do international guys have to "declare"?

In this week’s Sports Illustrated Chris Mannix wrote about the international prospects. I can’t find it online so no link, but I wanted to fire a Western exec.

    ———–

Says a Western Conference exec, "Once he gets stronger, he is going to be a force. If he were in college right now, we would be talking about him going Number 1."

Plays like: "[Bulls center] Omer Asik," says the exec, "but [Valanciunas] is more talented."

    ———–

mmm… an Omer Asik comparison for a lottery pick… yummy. This same exec also said Donatas Motiejunas "has a little Manu Ginobili on him," so I am just assuming that this came from the man who compared Darko to Chris Webber. It is the only way it makes sense.

Has Wizards written all over him. He might not ever play in Washington, but kind of like how Anthony Randolph just seems like a Timberwolf, he seems like a Wizard.

Lucas Nogueira is about as raw as a prospect can get. He is still very young, skinny, and undeveloped in terms of overall game. Bebe has a long way to go in terms of becoming a complete post player, most notably on offense with footwork and post moves. All of his points come from post feeds from teammates or on put backs from offensive rebounds, where is noticeably active. He also needs to work on his jump shot, where he has very awkward form and very average shooting touch. He does have the ability to hit the 3, but his comfortable shooting range is definitely about 12 feet and in. Overall, if he can do a better job of asserting himself in the paint on offense and continue to demonstrate he can be a shot altering presence, an NBA will be willing to take a chance on him as a project.but In a few years he could be a dandy of a pick.

in this draft,he may declare if he told executives that he is ready to spend 2-3 years overseas ,because he has a lot of potential and will be drafted based on his potential but teams probably wont give him a place i there roster next year

Funny that you mentioned Asik and Valanciunas as somewhat of a comparison. Today I was watching Asik and Erden playing eachother for small stretches of the Chicago vs Cleveland game and I thought about how underutilizd these two players are especially Erden. If I was Coach Scott I would be feeding Erden as many minutes as possible and doing my best to keep him out of foul trouble through development. Instead Hollins gets 27-minutes tonight, 2-rebounds and 2-points.

I thought to myself tha like Erden and Asik Valanciunas will likely play small stretches of the bench in his rookie season, but if he is playing at the same level as those two, as a 19 year old in the NBA, he is definitely worth a lotto pick in this years draft.

Once all the big men who actually can play basketball have been taken, there is nothing wrong with grabbing a 7-footer who needs to learn. Nogueira being on an NBA roster in the next three years is a waste of money and a roster spot.

"Today I was watching Asik and Erden playing eachother for small stretches of the Chicago vs Cleveland game and I thought about how underutilizd these two players are especially Erden."

Honestly, how does a team better utilize a player who gets 4 fouls in 12 minutes? Asik is only better when compared to Erden, and the fact that he sees the floor is a reflection of the Bulls giving him two guaranteed years at first round scale pay. On merit, he would never see the floor so long as Kurt Thomas, Taj Gibson, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah were healthy.
