NO EZ BUCKETSParticipantso yesterday Universal made a forum topic asking why you guys love basketball. It got me thinking about WHEN I fell in love with basketball. So i was just wondering about when you guys fell in love with basketball…assuming everyone here loves b-ball.
I fell in love with basketball in the 6th grade. I injured my knee(dislocated patella/kneecap and a broken femur/thighbone) and I needed surgery. I couldn’t even go out in my driveway to dribble for about 3 months(i was on crutches up until then). It drove me crazy not playing basketball for that long. I didn’t realize just how much I loved the game until it was gone(well gone for a couple months). Ever since then I have ate, slept, and breathed basketball, i never take any moment playing for granted.

JoeWolf1My dad wasn’t a ball player so I didn’t even really start playing til I was 10 and played in a city league just because all of my friends did. I was tall and could jump, but had no skill and was pretty bad, but I loved the game, watched NCAA and NBA all the time and worked hard to be a better player. Because I started playing so much later than all my friends and classmates, it was an up hill battle to get my skills up to their level, but I made Varsity as a Jr and started as a Sr. I didn’t get recruited after high school aside from the chance to walk on to two NAIA schools I was already considering for academics, but the cost of going to a private college was too much so I went to a State school. I never stopped playing or watching ball, I wish now I had the knowledge and skill I have now with the athleticism I had at 21, lol….but oh well, I’m fine playing pickup ball and rec league it’s still fun and a great hobby that keeps you in shape.

aamir543ParticipantI started playing when i was 6, and fell in love imeadiatly. I fell in love even more last year, in 8th grade. In the second semester, grades don’t matter, so all I did was play ball. In fact there are severral instances where I have tried to play ball during our tedious graduation practices. I remember trying to hide a ball in the bushes, just in case I got bored on graduation night. Then I remember that there were science fair projects displayed in the gym. Well there was a basketball as a display, so I instinctivly picked it up and started dribbling. I almost got in deep trouble for some reason. Another time was last summer, I injured my right ankle running suicides at a practice. I had a game for another team less than two days later. My dad insisted I rest my ankle, but I went anyways and I scored 27 points(a then career high) and made 4 threes. Other instances include where I just watch whole playoff games. At the beginging of the last school year, I was fasting for the whole first month, meaning going form sunrise to sunset without food or water, and this for thirty days. I had sleep and work to catch up on, but all I wanted to do is play ball, whether it be inside, or in 90 degree temperature, unable to drink water. I probably won’t have a career in ball after high school, but I will always play, cause I love the game, in fact I’ma head on over to the gymnn within the next hour or so.
