Taking advantage of injuries to Rick Hughes and financial concerns of Hyères-Toulon, the young pivot Louis Labeyrie (2m09, 19) makes a good start in the Pro A great offensively (12 points to 61.4%, 5.6 rebounds and 0.6 for cons 13.6 Eval in 25 ‘). His perfomance in Paris last weekend (24 evaluation) seems to have attracted attention across the Atlantic, to the point that several NBA scouts pourraint coming closer look at the best hope for Pro B title in December. In any case, as revealed Zhiberna Pascal, a French journalist with a broad network within the American basketball. According to the Twitter page of Barbara Youinou, a scout for Portland TrailBlazers was already present in Levallois last Friday.

Labeyrie had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 93-90 loss in the game with Paris-Levallois. With Alexis Ajinca having joined the club, Labeyrie will likely see his role decrease.

I’m in france and I can tell you labeyrie is an interseting prospect who can play.

Moreover in a disastrous situation (financial issues with a limited roster) he is present and takes his chance. With the playing time he ‘ll have (ajinca shoudn’t play much) and this experience allowing him to get great self confidence he should progress very fast.

Keep a look at him maybe more than lauvergne or gobert…

fournier is still the best prospect here in france but you can also watch leo westerman from asvel (parker’s team) who is a pg with good size "à la" rigaudeau with better athletic attributes and great BBIQ for his age.

I’m not saying Labeyrie is the top young draft eligible Frenchman, but there is no doubt he fits a profile of the type of guy who catches eyes. He is young, 6’10", and can run and jump. The look of a big afro, high socks, and shoes that don’t always match the team’s color scheme make him even more visible. The money problems have allowed for him to get on the floor in a high level league, and when factoring in the standard of being on a bad club he is doing okay. That really is all it is. It is obviously a different situation than Gobert because Cholet has much more talent where they do not have to rush a kid, though anytime Gobert wants to go for more than 5 minutes without fouling someone he is allowed.

     yes agree…

….but I only want to point out the fact that finally you can really progress if you play. Labeyrie has his chance to play a lot, and quickly progress.

Gobert and lauvergne (the other big men, french prospects) are regulary playing but with limited minutes.

Aijinca is an very talented player, who is deceptively strong, very long, and quick on his feet. He also has good range, and works very hard to get better. The problem with him is he just doesnt understand how to properly play the game of basketball, (or maybe just the North American style). His basketball IQ had been worse then bad while playing for the Raptors, his reaction time seemed slow, and his hand eye coordination wasnt the best either. Although on skill and potential alone I believe he still should be an NBA floater. He just has to stop thinking he is a SG and take some advise from guys like from Reggie Evans not guys like Andrea Bargnani.

ajinca is a typical exemple of a lack of progress due to a lack of playing time.

he’s tall and got skills but he has poor BBIQ (not only in nba but also in europe)… this game was his best ever (in proA too where he never performed) and was against a weak and small frontcourt (poitiers).

he underachieved and never really showed something more than just upside. it’s the first time I watch him a little bit agressive and motivated. He should stay in europe 2, 3 years to play more and why not, try a come back in nba after. He could matured personaly and developped his inside game.
