JustCollegeHoopsParticipantI am telling you what. This website does not have a staff that does in-depth film studies for the component of their website/business.
It’s really odd how it’s even held up. This staff does not watch film on the West. They sleep.
To put Aaron Gordon that low in the draft is almost like a business collapse if were judged by realistic NBA prospect professionals.
I am not trying to be rude, but this staff here needs to put in some overtime because this mock draft is very very weak in research and hours of work. Period.
Honestly, it’s embarrassing looking at the mock. Is this a born rich site that has a good URL and can maintain it by $$$.
Im going to do my research now. It hums an off beat note.

GrandmamaParticipantDon’t come here then is my thought. A mock draft is about as subjective anything can possibly be. If you don’t like their opinions, mocks, articles, then don’t visit this site.

This is a website that feasts on views, how is telling someone to not come back going to solve any issue?

JustCollegeHoopsParticipantThat is a great thought there, Tongue-Out-Like-23. Why would a website not want to listen to criticism and improve things. It’s exactly how success gets more successful. I dont get the attacks back at me. Im pointing out obvious issues with this site.
I mean, you guys are trying to get mad at me for saying that "Mock Draft 2014" isnt accurate and saying that it’s a big board. To me that is a siren echoing to the top of this staff. It doesnt make sense.

The link is titled, "Mock Draft 2014".
There is an NBA Logo & Team Name next to each pick.
There is a first and second round.
There is a pick # next to each pick.

ChewyParticipantAnyone who has been on this site for a bit knows that they don’t take into account team needs (aka mock draft) until the lottery comes out. Until then it is just prospects ranked in order (aka big board). You can argue where players are in the big board, but you can’t argue that it’s taking into account team needs when everyone knows it isn’t.
PS. I’m not on the staff either lol

JustCollegeHoopsParticipantThis comment right here is what seperates doing it half a$$ and doing it successfully.
This is doing it half a$$ is like.
Take the time to incorporate team needs based on all the NBA teams progress and make a correct mock draft. If you dont want to then dont have a mock draft. Just have a big board.
To me its very annoying and a slap in the face of web design and college hoops. Its not efficient.
And there is no way that I’m the first to tell you this. Get it right, quick paying to do it wrong.

mikeyvthedonParticipantKnowing where teams are drafting is doing it right? Plus, who is paying? This site is free. The Mock Draft gives possible scenarios of how the draft can go. It is updated weekly rather than daily, because going to crazy over a single performance is not necessarily "efficient". If you want to make a "correct Mock Draft" you have the ability to do so. On this site!
This is called "putting your money where your mouth is". Though, once again, no money involved. Their is just a way of criticizing a person without having any credibility and having a shred of credibility. This is right now the former. Make your own Mock Draft, provide evidence you know basketball. Otherwise, not really going to get people to fall in line with "doing it successfully" as far as making a Mock Draft.

JustCollegeHoopsParticipantAre you a part of the staff? I want to know how much time I need to take. Because I follow college basketball in depth. If I have something realistic to prove then I will do a 2 round draft, but I want to have it right.
0- Posted on: Tue, 01/28/2014 - 6:34pm #866113

mikeyvthedonParticipantDo not really understand the sentences after that. I do not hire people. Guessing you should e-mail the site contact your resume if you want a position here. As far as making a Mock Draft, does not take much time. You just go to "Create a Mock Draft". You can look at "How to create your own Mock Draft" . Than I suggest you "Load NBADraft.net Mock" and "Load Top 100 Big Board to Pool". If you are missing some prospects, you can either go to "Search for players" or just go to the profile of a player you would like to add. If they are draft eligible they should have an option that says "Add to Mock Draft Pool".
If you want to prove you would make a more accurate Mock, you should give proof and reasons. Otherwise, kind of hard to take you at your word based on a single message board post with numerous replies. That is what I meant by put your money where your mouth is. I also meant that there is indeed no money involved. Giving a suggestion for you to show your knowledge of the draft and basketball. Rather than saying you know your stuff while only writing names and criticism, with no basketball terms included.

ChewyParticipantHow many people last year in January had Marcus Smart coming back? Dario Saric? We all know March Madness makes and breaks players’ stocks every year. No one has a clear picture of how the draft will play out this early in the year, and if they say they do, then that’s the ego talking, not the brain.
I do mock drafts with my friends all the time. We start at the beginning of the year and make like 15 before the season ends. After each draft, we go back and look at all of them and laugh at how "off" we were based on how much hype certian players were getting at certain times in the year.
I don’t know how putting in team needs that early in process, knowing that things will significantly change w/ the tourny and combine, is the "right" way.

You’re missing my point. Draft Mocks should go up to the draft…which is in January. Can you stop ruining a good thread with your awful comments. It’s hurting my eyes. Just try and read and think please before you type. I dont get how you have 2979 points.
Again really annoying thats possible after a few posts I’ve seen of yours.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIs one guy. He may get opinions from scouts and colleagues, but it is his decision. He lives on the West Coast. Saw Aaron Gordon is HS. Has seen things that lead to not loving him as a NBA prospect. Let me ask, why is "mainstream" necessarily better? I may not agree with every ranking or Mock Draft, just think that a person who has been doing this for years and made a number of good calls is entitled to their opinion.
Now, their is a function on this site where you can make your own Mock Draft. You can even enter a contest that shows how your final year Mock compares to everyone elses. If you are going to criticize, might as well make your own. You making a post immediately stating biases and lists without really putting yourself on the line is not a ringing job endorsement, I would think.
Have been writing for the site for a few years now and I do not always agree with Aran, just think that he does a good job without succumbing to what people view as "the norm". More often than not, he is ahead of trends before anyone else. If you wanted a job, think it is best to have a resume and go to the source of hiring. Not write a scathing message board post saying how much you love college basketball. But, hey, at least this site gives you the ability to do so. That is saying something.

JustCollegeHoopsParticipantHey,
I like this post. Mikey, much props. I am from Elkhart, Indiana. I went to Purdue University. I have been a Manufacturing Engineer here for 4 years. I have been in love with college basketball for 20-23 years I’d say. Not sure when the exact moment was that I really fell in love with it.
I see the same website here every year. I would like to see improvements. I think that I keep losing confidence in the mock drafts year by year and I feel there is a lazy appeal to the site.
Few things, Aaron Gordon is completely off here. It’s definitely the worst red text on the mock draft.
A second point I want to make. If I come on here one night and have people telling me that for bring criticism to the "Mock Draft" and the defense is, it’s a "Big Board’. The website has an issue. It has a big issue. Because you also have a big board on the website.
The structure and organization of the links of the menu on the website is scattered hard to estimate where things are and what they are…and according to "long time followers/fans of the site" they are confused.
Like I said earlier a few times. Im not trying to be a jerk. It is just frustrating because…
Ive been waiting for years when I check in on nbadraft.net for it to get more unique, creative, organized, and better. And I feel I get dissappointed alot.
God bless all. Just wanted to vent about this.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIm going to do my research now. It hums an off beat note.
How is this NOT trying to sound like a jerk, lol? That was just a joke, though I think it has some merit as to the overall tone of this post. Am not really enthused with your overall basketball content thus far, plus you not saying "Hey, I will make a Mock Draft and show you where I think prospects should be ranked". Still, I understand you are passionate and want to see this site get better, just not sure you are helping it get their with giving more thorough examples (especially basketball wise).
The "Big Board" vs. "Mock Draft" is as much of an issue as one makes it. Before you know the draft order, I think all you can do is give scenarios of where guys might be drafted. That is what a Mock Draft does, I think this site does that, even if it does not take constantly shifting team records during the season and before the lottery into account.
Now, as far as the links being scattered, how so? If there is something that can be done there, I think that is legitimate. It is just hard to know what "scattered" means without a more specific example. You have:
- Home (self explanatory)
- Mocks (with Mock Drafts for the upcoming years, an archive and the "Create Your Own Mock" option)
- Articles (the Articles written on this site)
- News (the latest news on draft prospects or basketball in general. Also news stories under specific prospect profiles as well, this is where I have put in a lot of work)
- Blog (NCAA conference specific blogs, International blog, etc.)
- Forum (Where you can check the latest going on in the forums, though the "NBA Draft" forum is the main board)
- Rankings (Positional, The Big Board, The past years Big Board, By Class, HS Rankings, International Rankings. Is the one you feel is confusing?)
- History (Past Drafts, Past Mocks)
- About ("The team needs are not factored into the mock draft until after the NBA season ends.NBADraft.net has been projecting the NBA draft since 2000.")
So, if it is scattered, what can be done to make it less so? Criticism is fine. It is even better when someone offers active suggestions in how to constructively solve the issues. You seem to have ideas, just seen a lot more passive agressive speech than constructive criticism. Am not trying to be a jerk either, just calling it like I see it. This site definitely is up for suggestions, just think that making a message board post that basically states it is run by "lazy idiots" (paraphrasing) is not really much of one.

Ghost01ParticipantThe mocks are usually pretty crappy (Hassan Whiteside top 3, Alec Burks #2, etc) and the website layout has basically never been updated.
For a website that somehow pays to be the number 1 "nba draft" search engine hit, it’s kinda pathetic tbh.

JustCollegeHoopsParticipantExactyl, improvement is needed. Such a golden opportunity to be successful with the backbone and $$ behind it. Its obvious it has the the funds.
I dont get why not more research and give a shot for real market. Real shot for accurate projections.
I really feel that it’s been off a lot. I keep looking though.
Golden Opportunity waiting to happen.

JustCollegeHoopsParticipantMikey,
The reason I want to take my time is the reason I think there are flaws that need fixed on this site. I would want to make it an accurate depiction of an nba draft. That’s all.
Challenge accepted. Criticism, obviously isnt accepted here.

mikeyvthedonParticipantWhen you have yet to give any that could be viewed as constructive? Take your time and make a Mock Draft. Just thought that the man hours you had put in would allow you to do it in a timely fashion. Make it an accurate depiction of an NBA Draft, just realize a month from now, that depiction may change. It just seems that it is a major double standard when you criticize the way the Mock Draft is made because they take too much time, than you ask for time yourself to make one.
Seems like you expect more from others than you do from yourself, by that logic. Also, do not run the site. If I did, would definitely want more specific suggestions of what should be fixed. Plus, maybe basketball related reasons to what is so wrong with the Mock Draft. Besides criticism around taking into account team needs even when the season is still in progress and pick strusture is constantly changing.
