No surprise really…but I think he is going to be a terrific player. I would take him behind McCollum. I dont know how high he will go but if he goes in the late-1st round, he is going to be a really high value pick up. If he impresses in the combine and individual workouts he could definitely be late-lotto, mid-1st. Right now he doesnt figure that high because of State’s disappointments….but he is a good sized TRUE PG who does everything well.

Does everything well except: shoot, take care of the ball, provide on court leadership, finish with contact and play solid defense.
I’m not impressed by his game. That team was super talented but lacked leadership. Both Brown and Leslie were supposed to provide that and they failed in that regard. IMO the only intriguing thing about Brown is his size for his position.

I would have to agree,I saw the hype everyone was giving him on this website but I wasn’t impressed by him really at all.He just seemed like a normal D1 PG who was bigger and stronger then everyone else at his position .

Taller maybe, but not stronger. He’s gonna be 23 too. If he isn’t strong yet, when will he be? I wonder what his work ethic is like because he looked like the same player his sophomore and junior seasons both physically, skill-wise and in terms of understanding the game.
I think he has more in common with Mustafa Shakur than Rod freaking Strickland.

Back to reality – Lorenzo has considerable upside and potential in my opinion. You also have to realize that he is not a finished product, and he needs to continue to improve to reach his full potential.

He’s a very good athlete, who has great size for a point guard, who has excellent ball-handling skills, and who also has great passing skills & instincts. He has also proven that he can run a team in a very efficient matter from the point guard position

The only things he needs to improve upon – are:

1. Becoming more stronger with-in his upper-body , core, and lower body through the utilization of a great strength training program

2. He needs to improve his ball protection skills against physical & tough defense

3. He needs to become a more efficient, effective, and aggressive scoring threat

4. And he needs to a become a more efficient decision maker who consistently looks to make the simple and needed play

If Lorenzo can improve upon these four qualities that I have listed, than he will easily develop into a solid starting point guard in the NBA

In the beginning of the college basketball season, I had Lorenzo Brown ranked as the second best point guard prospect in the nation behind Marcus Smart. Because I felt like Marcus had a great combination of mental toughness and physical toughness that would make him the better pro.

What I love about Lorenzo Brown when it comes to his potential:
1. He has great size and very good athleticism for a point guard
2. He has great ballhandling skills and great passing instincs
3. As a point guard he has the ability to run a team in a very efficient matter
4. He has the athleticism, body control, and skill set to finish lay-ups around the rim in very creative ways
5. He shows the potential to be a very effective scorer when he needs to be, because his dribbling skills allows him to get to anywhere he wants to get to on the basketball court and helps him be a decent isolation scoring threat when needed

His weaknesses:
1. His unselfishness and lack of aggressiveness at times causes him to be a very inefficient scorer
2. I question is mental and physical toughness
3. Because of his average physical strength, physical defenders can force him to play off balance and make him very turnover prone

Final Say:
I love his potential and think that many teams might be tempted to still pick him with a lottery pick or late first round pick. There a just not alot of point guards in the league that posess his combination of great size, very good athleticism, great ball handling skills, great passing instincts, and the potential to be a decent scoring threat when needed. This is only his second year playing the point guard position full-time. So he’s still developing into a quality point guard. Also I think once Lorenzo utilizes a strength training program and a athleticism enhancing training routine ( speed training, quickness training, agility training, jump training, etc ). I think lorenzo can develop into a very efficient point guard in the NBA who can consistently give you 13 to 14 points per game and 7 to 8 assist per game ( In a highly efficient way that is similar to the production that Mike Conley gives for the Memphis Grizzlies )

Their is a reason why many NBA Scouts love Lorenzo brown. It’s because he naturally possesses a lot of talent, upside, and potential. If he continues to grow in his understanding of how to play the game of basketball at a high level combined with continuing to maximize his all- around skill level. Than Lorenzo will easily develop into a solid starting point guard in the NBA

im really torn on brown…. but he isn’t a guy I would take in the lottery… he never impressed me much this yr but I see the talent he possesses.. hes either gnna be a boom or bust guy

yes, I dont think anyone will take him in the lottery, but mid-first round is a good possibility and late first round is highly likely. you have to remember, people werent any higher on Rondo and had a lot of doubts about him, but he turned out being the best player in the whole draft. Brown had just as good a season as a sophomore…he disappointed as a jr. but still was all conference.

I doubt anyone saw Rondo as a lottery guy or star that he has become, hence him going 21st. the Celtics loved fell in love with him and ended up acquiring him. thats all it takes is a team to fall in love with you in the combine or at workouts.

siggy I respect your comments. we are not here to agree but to give our different perspectives. I can see everything you are saying. from my perspective, I feel he will be underrated due to his less than stellar season. did he regress or was his team not as good as expected? to me, the latter. NC State players were just not locked in mentally, particularly Leslie. I disagree about Brown not providing leadership, I think he did the best he could.

everything you said he doesnt do well, he actually did last year. 45% from field, 35% from 3pt. he had a worse year this year. me, I dont pay much attention to college though, particularly numbers. I do more of an eye test. Brown is a guy who’s game is better suited for the pros.

I agree, he and Leslie didnt look focused and late in the season he was just making some turnovers that didnt make sense. they really f**cked up 3 games they shouldnt have. a tip-in loss to Maryland then another to Miami. and they lost to Wake. if they won those games they wouldve been at the top of the conference. those were coaching issues and lack of focus.

Stats aside…he has a terrific handle, size and the ability to get his shot off, and great court vision. I believe his issue is more mental. I really wouldnt judge his strength by his size. Some guys cannot get big and if they do they have a hard time keeping it on.

yes, some people are just meant to be skinny. like Chris Douglas Roberts. they have a hard time maintaining weight because their metabolism is so high. I have a friend like that. he is about 5’8″ 160lbs. he has to take creatine and drink 3 protein shakes per day and workout just to stay at that weight. he stopped for about 2 months and lost 16lbs. I am just speculating if Brown hasnt gotten any bigger since he has been in college, he probably wont. in that regard Siggy may be right, but that doesnt indict his work ethic necessarily, nor does it make him a weakling.

he has much better PG skills than Stuckey, but he definitely doesnt have Stuckey’s brute strength when going to the cup. Brown doesnt have a scorer’s mentality like Stuckey either. I dont see the comparison.

I think style and impact wise he’ll be similar to former Zag, Jeremy Pargo. Brown’s best quality, IMO, is his ability to distribute the ball and find open guys, and could probably give some decent minutes for a bad team or filling in for an injury.

I do not see Rod Strickland, at all. Rod was an excellent mid range shooter, a 20 ppg scorer and more of a combo in college, who transitioned to a point because of his ball handling ability and natural feel for the game. That is pretty much the opposite of Brown who is kind of an in-efficient pure point who doesn’t shoot well or have a history of taking good shots.

I think he’s an early 2nd round pick, but I wonder about his ability to stick. If he does, I think you’ll see him in a 3rd or 2nd string role, depending on how good a team he’s on. I feel he’s on the teir of A.J. Price, Shelvin Mack, Marcus Williams, Jeremy Pargo.
