Carmelo Anthony has approved the trade to New Jersey according to a source.

    http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/69257/20100924/source_melo_approves_trade_to_nets/

Trade should look like this if it goes through:

Denver recieves Derrick Favors, Andrei Kirilenko, and multiple draft picks

New Jersey recieves Carmelo Anthony and DJ Augustin

Charlotte recieves Devin Harris and rights to Jarvis Hayes

Utah recieves Boris Diaw and Quinton Ross

Cue all Utah fans: We got Quinton (like the name but spelled wrong) Ross!!! Title TEAM!!!!

The Nets stepped up. This is a huge move but I want to see this team on the court because….Isin’t this basically the same team the Nuggs had but a little more depth? I think Melo is happy to leave Denver but it isin’t really a step up.

Also, Den grabbed GS’s top 7 pick in 2012 and NJ’s 2011 1st rounder unprotected. That’s a great move because I could Denver picking

    2011: 5th pick and 21st pick

    2012: 8th pick and 13th pick

    That’s how you rebuild.

A little off-topic, but…I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SEASON TO START! There have been so many changes and roster moves. I just want to see how everyone looks in their new jerseys. Why can’t the season start already?

I don’t know if I’m excited with just Diaw and Ross for the humongous contract of AK. Utah could get much more. We should require that Charlotte include Diop as well as Diaw or Denver to include JR Smith or Nene. Then this would be quite a trade and good for all teams. What kind of player is Ross? I’ve never seen him play; would he fit in with the Jazz well?

With Augustin included in the trade going to the Nets then I guess it is not set in stone that Farmar starts. Augustin would be a better starter than Farmar, I think.

For the Bobcats, I’m not quite sure Hayes will ever come back. He got an offer from an international and if they use him alot and he likes it there, then there will be no use in him coming back to the NBA. Then what, would the Bobcats be okay with just getting Harris or would they demand another player be involved?

     why does carmelo want this?!

he goes from a contending team in the west to a team that threatened the worst record ever last year that basically didnt add anythin important over the summer (if favors gets traded) and are in the improving east!

what kind of logic is that?

Quinton Ross is a player Jerry Sloan will love. He is a lockdown tough nosed defender, but isn’t a good offensive player. Sort of a throw in, but has the potential to start for the Jazz at SG or SF.

Why would the jazz throw away ak like this. Hey is an awesome player to our organization and needed. Sure his contract sucks. but if your gna trade him please do better than this. Ross has bounced around the league like many other players. and really is no better than brewer who we gave away. dont do the same with ak. plus diaw plays our already deepest position. makes no sense!

Do the Nets really have a better chance of contending in the East then the Nuggets had of contending in the west because I think Boston, Orlando, and Miami maybe even ATL can all beat them in series. In the west the Nuggets had the talent to make the WCF they could of beat all the teams in the West with the exception of the Laker, I’m not saying they would have but they would have had a chance. I guess it was more about location than a basketball decision for Melo

What’s wrong with Utah? They finally trade AK, but they don’t get much of anything back and it was his last year anyway. I agree that Sloan will love Ross, but he will hate Diaw just as much. The guy is talented, but he tends to come into the season out of shape and he doesn’t really put up the effort you need.

Not sure how I felt about NJ. Lopez and Melo is a nice start to build around, though now you need a pg. Who knows though, I’m not sure that Avery is much on Harris anyways. He’s been traded twice already under him so it may be for the best and I’m sure the Nets have evaluated Favors. He has a lot of potential, but some guys play years in the league and we keep talking about their potential. They can still be a playoff team. It was always an option to wait until free agency, but that could have been way too late. You don’t want to end up like the Knicks this past offseason and not get any of your main targets. Speaking of the Knicks, I believe their best chance to snag Anthony would have been the offseason and he likely would have went over the Nets.

Denver…good job. You got a starter, a young player for the future and some picks. I don’t think they would have gotten a better offer down the road, plus you can start moving forward now.

Bobcats basically got Harris for Augustin. Sounds like a steal to me and if Jarvis Hayes comes back to the NBA that’s another solid rotation player. With Harris I can see this team being even better defensively.

Carmelo Anthony, Brook Lopez and Terrence Williams are a solid 3 to build around Augustine will surprise a lot of people. Morrow, Farmar and Outlaw are solid off the bench now next season go after a 4 man and a defensive big off the bench. Horford will be available and maybe Tyson Chandler. The Brooklyn move will be attractive to many also. Love the move some of yall are underrating T-Will and DJA as 3rd and 4th options for now the Nets will make the Playoffs but anything more than a first round appearance is unlikely.

"Not sure if I even cheer for the Jazz anymore" You traitor. What are you thinking. Look at what we’ve done this offseason. Added Big Al, Elson, Watson, Bell, and now Diaw and Ross. We replaced practically every player that left Utah this year with someone better. Al>Booz, Elson> Koufos, Bell> Matthews, and now Diaw=AK, Ross>Korver. How can you not be happy about that? We improved with 4 players better than what we had last year. Yes, loosing Brewer, Matthews, Korver, and to an extent Boozer hurts, but in the end what we get in return is so much more. Why not take the risk (What risk, its all reward?) That’s basketball, that’s the NBA, you stick with you team through the thick and the thin, no matter what. And so far I am loving being a Jazz fan.

One question, I read on this link: http://www.nba.com/jazz/features/locked_on_jazz.html, that Diaw can play both the 4 and the 5. How is this possible when Diaw is only 6’9 if that (he might just be 6’8)? That would be an extremely small Center. I’m not saying that Centers must be 6’10 or taller but how could he survive at Center. Wouldn’t he just be destroyed with his body. He is not a Kurt Thomas.  Could he possibly start at the 3 for the Jazz with a lineup like this: Dwill, Bell, Diaw, Millsap, Big Al? (At least while Okur continues to heal from his injury.)

Also if Ross could possibly start for Utah, then why didn’t he do so in New Jersey or at least be a valuable backup. He is basically unknown to the rest of the league. He may not be good on offense, but if his defense is that good then I should have at least heard about him. Could he possibly become like Matt Harpring?

Double dribbler, if you think about this is kind of a steal for Utah as well.

In 2005-2006 when Ak was an all star. He was quite a commodity and not surprisingly worth a whole lot. This is why Utah signed him to such a big contract, expecting him to get better and better, thus strapping themselves financially. But ever since he signed that huge contract, he has steadily gotten worse and worse. Utah has tried to trade him before but as we all know they failed. This year he showed us how valuable he still is, but even then he still wasn’t even close to what he once was back in 2005-2006. 11.9 points, 1 steal, 1 block, about 5 rebounds and a 25% 3pt shooter, vs. his 2005-2006 year: 15.3 points, 1.5 steals, 3.2 blocks, and 8 rebounds. Uhh, I’ll take the 2005-2006 version. Unfortunately, he will never do that again. (I figure its pretty safe to say that considering how injury prone he is) Which is why it took Utah so long to trade him. And if you look around the league at the other big contracts like: Elton Brand, Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Peja Stojakovic, James Posey, Troy Murphy… etc, Those teams are pretty much stuck with those big contracts until they expire, or the player decides to retire. Big contracts are usually never traded away, not because the team does not want to trade him, but because they can’t, they are simply not worth anything to other teams. Their production is not worth their contract, and therefore there is no use trading them.

So by Utah doing this trade they are essentially getting the exact same player in return for half the price!!! That’s quite a bargain, a trade that I’m sure any team would do. Yes, you are not going to see Diaw be a blocking machine like AK is (or was), but everything else is the same. Besides those blocks will be made up for by Big Al.

I’m a traitor. Been a Jazz fan for 13 years now. And if this trade goes through, you can consider me a Nuggets fan.

    Let’s do this.

Oh sure nomoney just when the Jazz get good, and a western conference champion is in sight. You leave. Don’t you want to see your favorite team get a championship and win the finals. With Diaw, Jefferson, Bell, and Watson we could do it. I could see the Jazz challenging the Lakers within the next 2-3 years.  Its close. Don’t give up now when the Jazz are so close.
